What do you think of Economy passengers using Business class toilets?

on an aeroplane?

Is it ever OK? What if the aisle to the econ toilets are blocked but clear to the business class toilets?

OP posts:
LollipopViolet · 05/07/2019 09:35

I'm visually impaired, on a flight to the US the crew actually gave me permission to use the business class toilets as they were much closer to my seat.

I didn't, because I didn't want to deal with the attitudes of the passengers (at that time I didn't use a cane of any description so didn't look VI) - this thread has proved I made the right choice.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 05/07/2019 09:35

It seems to be all the people saying they don't give a shit (pun intended) and everyone should be able to use every loo aren't the ones actually travelling in business or first class though?

By that token, presumably you also think "well, it's just a seat on the same plane so I should be able to sit where I want?" too?

And why wait in the main terminal when there are other chairs in the lounges? Should you just be able to waltz in there too?

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 05/07/2019 09:39

buzz I knew someone would say that lol.

I have flown both. And couldn't give a shit.

I pay for the comfy seat, better food and lounge. I couldn't care less if someone else wants to use the toilet. I've rarely waited more than two minutes for the toilet anyway. (But if I have to, I just ask the staff to ppint out the least busy queue.)

Did the OP ever come back?

NoBaggyPants · 05/07/2019 09:42

Stick to your own cabin. If you want a lower loo to passenger ratio, pay for it.

It's not just about the toilet, some airlines have extra amenities in business and first, for instance AF has Clarins toiletries set out in the bathroom. You get them by virtue of your class of travel, it's not a free for all.

NoBaggyPants · 05/07/2019 09:44

I've rarely waited more than two minutes for the toilet anyway.

You'd be waiting a damn sight longer if everyone could use them.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 05/07/2019 09:50

I have flown both. And couldn't give a shit.

Well that's your opinion which is of course perfectly fine. But that's not the same for everyone who has paid to fly in premium cabins.

They are segregated for a reason and part of that is the experience which includes lower ratios of bum to loo, along with the nice lounges, better seats, fewer people shuffling up and down the aisles all the time etc. If you don't mind one, then why aren't you fine with all? (I don't mean that aggressively, more curiously)

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 05/07/2019 09:56

buzz

If someone wants to use spare seats that no one is using, how does it affect me? It doesn't. So no, I wouldn't care about it.

Yes, people have different opinions. Kind of the point of a discussion thread.

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 05/07/2019 09:58

baggy in economy too.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 05/07/2019 10:00

So why would you ever pay to fly premium then? Why not just always book the cheapest seat and upgrade yourself as you describe?

(You must surely be aware that yours is a minority opinion though, from pp here and in real life - people/other passengers/airline staff don't agree that it should be a total free for all?)

Enclume · 05/07/2019 10:03

Business class bogs - for a better class of buttock.

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 05/07/2019 10:03

buzz

Because it doesn't actually work like that because they check your tickets?

Also, I personally wouldn't do it. I just don't care if others do because it doesn't affect me.

When you say a minority opinion, I assume you mean "not the same as mine".

mustdrivesoon · 05/07/2019 10:07

I've flown long and short haul in business and the crew are definitely more lenient in letting E passengers use BC looks on short haul. Esp single aisle planes due to trolley blocking the way.

On long or mid haul two isle planes the crew are really strict. The BC price can be 5x the price of E so they really do need to keep it "exclusive".

Pedallleur · 05/07/2019 10:21

A friend of mine had the situation happen in reverse ie business class toilet had an issue and one of the economy loos was now business class and he was told it was off limits. He explained politely that a member of the cabin staff was going to have to be outside the door the whole flight (from NY) to prevent him from using the toilet. They didnt!

LaMarschallin · 05/07/2019 10:41

Certainly the impression I got.

And, no, I've never flown business or first, though happily admit I'd love to.
You get what you pay for.

If you've got an incontinent toddler, bear that in mind. Maybe don't go abroad for holidays until they can hold it. Don't expect special treatment.
If you've got a bowel complaint, presumably that wasn't diagnosed on the flight. Work round it. Discuss it with the airline before travelling.

There are toilets in economy; most people in economy would doubtless let people go to the front of the queue in tricky toddler/bowel or bladder problem situations.

You haven't paid for it; don't use it.

Just because it's there doesn't mean it's yours.

And I'm feeling I'd take out a mortgage (which I'd need to Smile) to avoid some of the "my shit's as good as yours so I'll muscle in where I like" posters here.

AuntyMarysBigRedPants · 05/07/2019 10:47

I think you should only use them as a last resort. When we travelled short haul in business everyone was using them, fucking annoying.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/07/2019 10:49

seems ridiculous to me, a toilet is a toilet.

LaMarschallin · 05/07/2019 11:10

seems ridiculous to me, a toilet is a toilet.
Fair enough.
Use the ones in economy then.

Maybe other people pay more because they don't think that.

Horsemenoftheaclopalypse · 05/07/2019 11:21

I fly business a lot almost with BA so it’s total shit

I couldn’t get too excited about it either way.

When I fly economy/premium economy I will use business toilets if there’s a queue.
I have never been “challenged” by staff on it...

ImpracticalCape · 05/07/2019 11:41

The thing is; a BA 747 has economy in the main body of the plane. Business upstairs. Upstairs is off limits full stop. First is in front of premium economy. Granted past a curtain a hallway and the galley.
First is 12 seats. 2 toilets. A return Flight from London to LA is around £12k
Economy on a 747 has around 10 to 12 toilets.
All it's takes is for 2 passengers from economy to decide it's their right to push though the curtains and you have a queue in First.
Yes. I'd rightly be furious if there's an economy passenger causing the queue. Child or not.

DramaRamaLlama · 05/07/2019 12:33

Most planes have business upstairs anyway

Most (long haul) planes have some business seats upstairs. They are in a minority and are always booked out well in advance.

I fly business a lot and have gold status with BA and Emirates which allow you to select your seat at time of booking (standard business class does not normally) and in the last 20-odd long hauls I've flown I've secured an upper deck seat once.

EnidButton · 05/07/2019 12:41

I just open a window and use a SheWee.

KatherineJaneway · 05/07/2019 13:12

Short haul is a bit different though, no flat beds. When your trying to sleep long haul you don't want loads of people constantly going past to the toilet as you or your company pay so that you arrive rested and ready to do business.

BadLad · 05/07/2019 13:55

Megathread here about cattle class passengers daring to venture into the civilised part of the plane.

This is how it usually goes down when economy try and get up front...
