Just seen on the news that Harry and Meghan will not release any details of Archie’s godparents

What does everyone think? The papers seem really annoyed by their decision to keep Archie’s godparents secret. I’m not sure what to think. I don’t think it would hurt to let the public know these details and to see the christening party arrive at church.

They need to be either in or out of public life, that way it’s not confusing to everyone. If Harry and Meghan want their lives to be private they should opt out and then the press and public have zero rights to their business.

slipperywhensparticus · 03/07/2019 22:09

Bloody phone! Harry's mom walked away from them still got hounded to death by the press if he leaves same thing will happen to him too he stays then he stays protected

And sod off with they are costing us a fortune it's been explained so many times it needs it's own pinned post

Thump · 03/07/2019 22:11

It's all a bit strange. So far we've had 3 glimpses of the child. The bottom half of his face, his feet and the top half of his face (in sepia).
It's a bit Michael Jackson with Blanket

Thump I imagine it's to piss off the idiots desperate to know what colour he is. And I don't blame them either........looking forward to seeing the black and white photos released to the press. Hopefully he'll have a massive hat on his head so they can't check out the texture of his hair as well.

Ivegotthree · 03/07/2019 22:14

This couple have the worst PR of anyone in the public eye at the moment.

Every day there's a new reason to feel irritated by them.

thedevondumpling · 03/07/2019 22:15

Who cares? If Harry has such principles then he needs to live on his millions, renounce his title and clear off to a private life. Of course he won't because he wants it all his own way.

A lot of people want to know what the baby's skintone is and what colour his hair is. And by those same people it's going to be used to judge how acceptable he is... The fact is if little Archie looks mixed race (he is, but if he looks it) his parents are going to be extra protective considering the vitriol that's been directed at his mother.

I really despise all the Meghan bashing. Poor woman
^^ This.

It'a tedious. There's a lot of DM readers on here obviously.

They need to be either in or out of public life, that way it’s not confusing to everyone

I'm not the slightest bid confused. They want a modicum of privacy, what's wrong with that?

Being a godparent is supposed to be a public commitment to the child and their upbringing, of course

Really? No one but us and the DCs knows who our DCs godparents are.

As far as 'disgusting behaviour'... I find some of the comments on here pretty disgusting TBH. Leave them alone.

Roussette · 03/07/2019 22:21

MsMaisel you've nailed it. They can't do right for doing wrong. No idea why everyone has it in for her/them. I find it vile.

Pannalash · 03/07/2019 22:22

I think M + H are either possibly being very badly advised or possibly ignoring advice they are given. They seem to be lurching from one PR disaster to another at the moment. The farce around Archie’s birth was ridiculous. It does seem a little precious to keep his Godparents under wraps. Let’s face it if you agree to be a Godparent to a member of the Royal family it comes with the territory that your appointment will be of public interest. I really believe that some of the younger generation of royals need to decide if they are ‘celebrities’ or ‘royal’ as the lines seem to be increasingly blurred at the moment, and I can’t see public support remaining for another generation of the Royal Family the way things appear to be going.

TenAndFive · 03/07/2019 22:24

Wow is this really a thread?

I don’t understand why people are so interested in Harry’s & Meghan’s life, they have the right to keep things personal.

thedevondumpling · 03/07/2019 22:25

There's nothing new in this. Princess Anne, also sibling to the heir to the throne, had pretty much exactly the same attitude to her family and the press. She kept her two well out of the limelight too, and felt no obligation to anyone about it.

In one way that is true in another way Princess Anne did it very differently. She didn't make announcements about what she wasn't going to do or what she was she just got on with it. I think the thing with H & M is they actually draw alot of attention to themselves whilst say they don't want alot of attention.

It makes me question what their motivation is.

I am old enough to remember when Prince Andrew was the darling of the British public. A hero returning from the Falklands war. Well that didn't last did it. I think Prince Harry needs to make his mind up and if he wants privacy then do what Auntie Anne did and stop talking about it.

BlackCatSleeping · 03/07/2019 22:28

Who actually cares who the Godparents are?

No one cares, but once you tell people they are allowed to know something, it makes people want to know.

Like super injunctions.

helpmum2003 · 03/07/2019 22:29

TokyoSushi · 03/07/2019 22:29

I think it's the announcing of the not announcing that's annoying. Go ahead, have your christening, I couldn't be less interested.

But announcing 'we're having a christening, and we're not telling you lot anything about it' is irritating. It's like the they're trying to be clever but they just come across as a pair of idiots.

thedevondumpling · 03/07/2019 22:30

The fact is if little Archie looks mixed race (he is, but if he looks it) his parents are going to be extra protective considering the vitriol that's been directed at his mother.

As the mother of mixed race kids I find that really offensive. They should be proud and not treating it as some dirty secret. Have we gone back to the 1940s?

The ridiculous thing is whatever his skin tone it is only a "thing" because of how they have handled it.

thedevondumpling · 03/07/2019 22:32

Exactly TokyoSushi. What would be really good is if the papers ran a story about how no one was interested and how up themselves they are to imagine anyone gives a damn.

cheesemongery · 03/07/2019 22:33

Obviously in the absence of Marlon Brando, Al Pacino would have stepped in.

Jennifer Saunders as the (fairy) Godmother.

Archies head would have been doused by Fleabag's sexy priest.

Robert De Niro turned up by accident thinking he was shooting another commercial.

Ed Sheeran was turned away as there was to be no ginger upstaging.

Honestly, I don't know what all the fuss is about.

separatelives · 03/07/2019 22:37

considering the vitriol that's been directed at his mother
I'd say they're showing plenty of vitriol to the taxpayer s who fund their lavish lifestyle. They're literally putting a finger up to the public. Why do people defend them?

BarryBarryTaylor · 03/07/2019 22:37

Unlike the Princess Anne era though, social media exists now. It’s very hard to control who records what and what gets released, what little bit of gossip is told to who and so on, so it’s almost easier to give the press an inch in order to appease them, but still retain a sense of privacy. I think that’s what they are trying to do by releasing statements. I don’t think it’s in attempt to court more attention at all.

Meghan has my upmost sympathy and respect. She gets torn apart in a way that Kate never did. She is trying to be a mom in the most famous family, can no one have a bit of empathy and understanding??

Thump · 03/07/2019 22:39

I also find the suggestion that being mixed race is something to be covered up to be offensive. Bugger off.

It's just Hollywood drama llama shite that Meghan is peddling. Kate & William manage to keep theirs pretty private whilst not heralding the press every time they decide they're going to keep something private.

Haworthia · 03/07/2019 22:39

They've managed to make it a bigger deal than announcing the names IMO (...) If we're paying for their kitchen, then they should accept the good bits of their 'jobs' along with the bits that irritate them (...) Can anyone seriously remember the names of the God parents of Kate and Williams kids? Probably not...because it was just announced as a non event.

Couldn’t agree more, wheresthebeach

I have to say, up until now I’ve been completely supportive of their “secrecy” even though lots of people have been up in arms about it. Announcing the birth hours after it happened - totally fine. Not releasing a photo of Archie - whatever.

But this has actually riled me. No one honestly cares about which poshos and celebs are going to be godparents. I am barely even mildly interested... and yet issuing a sniffy announcement about “privacy” really does show a bit too much ego and contempt for the wider public.

Longdistance · 03/07/2019 22:41

I reckon the top boss will be on their case very soon 👑

SillyBillyBandy · 03/07/2019 22:41

The problem is, if there is no interest in the monarchy then there is no point in the monarchy and we may as we'll become a republic.

So if Harry starts bellyaching about privacy and trying to stop the public having any knowledge around his family, he's really shouting himself in the foot.

And imo he's coming across as arrogant and out of touch, with a chip on his shoulder that he can't do exactly what he wants when he wants.

Dude, people can't afford to eat and you're making a big deal out of who gets to know about your child being christened into the faith of which is headed up by his grandmother! Get some perspective.
