Just seen on the news that Harry and Meghan will not release any details of Archie’s godparents

What does everyone think? The papers seem really annoyed by their decision to keep Archie’s godparents secret. I’m not sure what to think. I don’t think it would hurt to let the public know these details and to see the christening party arrive at church.

I actually wish our gracious queen would give them a bollocking for once and for all about duty and country etc. That's why they're in the privileged positions they're in after all.......

PCohle · 03/07/2019 22:45

I agree, their constant announcements that they're not announcing anything comes across as attention seeking and tedious.

No one would have bloody noticed if they'd just not said anything.

Again, it's the Godparents who have requested anonymity.

That's fairly easy to understand, I would think.

saraclara · 03/07/2019 23:10

Yes I find it highly offensive too, mixed raced/ethnic children are gorgeous!!

Jesus f*ing Christ.

cdtaylornats · 03/07/2019 23:20

They are happy to take the public's money

You still haven't worked out how the Royal Family is funded then.

PickAChew · 03/07/2019 23:23

Good for them

SoupDragon · 03/07/2019 23:26

Are people really unable to grasp that it's the godparents themselves who want privacy?

Haworthia · 03/07/2019 23:28

If you’re so insistent that being a godparent needs to remain a secret, then you should turn down the gig, honestly.

sonlypuppyfat · 03/07/2019 23:31

I had my children baptised in a church full of people at a regular Sunday worship. Anyone could see my children's godparents

Thump · 03/07/2019 23:31

Maybe Meghan is picking her Dad as godfather. I'd keep that quiet in fairness.......

RubberTreePlant · 03/07/2019 23:33

It's just a strange concept. How do you undertake a public commitment in secrecy?

It's also hard to believe that it was, in fact, an idea instigated by the godparents. Who says "Yes, I love to, but only on condition of secrecy"?

Not that it's of earth-shattering importance. Just strange enough to attract comment.

Thump · 03/07/2019 23:34

I actually haven't a clue who is godparent to George et al. Why they have to announce they're keeping it private is baffling quite frankly... So, the press would ask for a pic on the day.... 2 minutes... jobs a goodun.

We're used to only seeing snippets of Kate's little ones. I can't remember any photo of George between his Christening and his first day at school really - I know they do a Christmas photo, but you don't get tabloid pics of him wrestling little Johnny to the ground in the schoolyard. We rarely see pics of them at all. Other times we see them are weddings where they are Page boys or trooping of the colour and stuff. No big fuss made about 'privacy'.

justasking111 · 03/07/2019 23:41

The press will get the nod if anyone famous flies in and stays locally, it will get out.

I wonder if they will buy a place in america and spend time there, they certainly seem determined to break the royal family mould and make their own lives in their own way.

Thump · 03/07/2019 23:43

Given that Meghan had Charles walk her up the aisle, I'd guess she'll pick him again as godfather. He's future king and she knows what side her bread is buttered. 'My son's godfather is the King of England'. Quite a claim to make, even when you're married into the royal family.

Haworthia · 03/07/2019 23:47

Since when do people select a child’s grandparents as godparents?

MrsDimmond · 03/07/2019 23:48

'My son's godfather is the King of England'. Quite a claim to make, even when you're married into the royal family. eh??

The King will be his grandfather for heavens sake. No kudos for having him as godfather in that particular relationship Hmm

ElizaPancakes · 03/07/2019 23:48

So what? Do people really give more than a idle thought to things like this?

It's extra claim to their close relationship........

GrapefruitIsGross · 03/07/2019 23:53

I imagine they’re trying to strike a balance between their roles in the public eye and underlining that their dc’s will remain private citizens. It’s not been done before in the RF in the social media age, so it’s new territory for both them and the journos.

That being said, I don’t know why they didn’t do the christening in private, release a couple of family shots for the Daily Mail to over analyse the day after and say no more about it. Same with the birth.

They (or their PR people) are just creating a Streisand effect where they draw attention to the fact that some information is being deliberately withheld.

Thump · 03/07/2019 23:53

My maternal grandmother is my godmother and my paternal grandfather is my godfather!
