Just seen on the news that Harry and Meghan will not release any details of Archie’s godparents

What does everyone think? The papers seem really annoyed by their decision to keep Archie’s godparents secret. I’m not sure what to think. I don’t think it would hurt to let the public know these details and to see the christening party arrive at church.

If Harry doesn't want his son to endure the life he's had he could always walk away from it all.

This! @Calloway

We hear you've spent millions of our money on your house but you make a big show of having things 'secret' then have an Instagram page to publicise your life. Make your minds up.

cdtaylornats · 03/07/2019 21:34

Harry and Meghan and Archie are public figures. The godparents aren't.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 03/07/2019 21:34

Any chance the christening will be in the next 12 days when we can expect Serena Williams to be in the country...???

Royal family, he'd be absolutely slated for not honouring his responsibilities. These people simply can't win.
Are you kidding, they're on a permanent winner. As for "owning" these people. no we don't, but we're paying fortunes to pay for their lives of luxury, they have a duty to give something back. Stop defending their disgusting behaviour.

Disgusting" just for not announcing godparent names in advance??

No, "disgusting" for choosing godparents who do not wish to be named.

Oswin · 03/07/2019 21:39

Disgusting? For protecting the privacy of people that have asked for it.
Holy shit. You people are fucking mad.

maddiemookins16mum · 03/07/2019 21:39

I’m slightly going off the pair.

EssentialHummus · 03/07/2019 21:40

Totally fine not to announce the godparents in advance, but announcing that you're not going to announce it is a bad move imo.

derxa · 03/07/2019 21:41

,

Wheresthebeach · 03/07/2019 21:43

They've managed to make it a bigger deal than announcing the names IMO. If they want a private life, that's great. They can have it. If we're paying for their kitchen, then they should accept the good bits of their 'jobs' along with the bits that irritate them. It's not like its a surprise. Can anyone seriously remember the names of the God parents of Kate and Williams kids? Probably not...because it was just announced as a non event.

sqeakywheel · 03/07/2019 21:43

It's not going to mean anything to me. I don't know M and H, I won't know the godparents either. People are entitled to a private life. They do their work in the public eye, but their child has a right to a private childhood. I believe this of all famous people. I dislike it when they constantly push their dcs into the public eye. They are too young to make an informed decision about the media they appear in.

RubberTreePlant · 03/07/2019 21:44

Being a godparent is supposed to be a public commitment to the child and their upbringing, of course.

Mrsmadevans · 03/07/2019 21:45

At a guess l'd say they are Serena Williams, Jessica & Ben Mulroney, Arthur Landon, Hugh Grosvenor The Duke of Westminster, possibly the Beckhams.

Frith2013 · 03/07/2019 21:50

Fewer boring newspaper inches for me to flick past.

LillianGish · 03/07/2019 21:52

I think as with details of the birth, this isn't actually something they can keep secret as it will be a matter of public record, so just as we discovered later where Meghan had given birth, we will also eventually discover the names of the Godparents (if anyone actually cares). I think if these two want no publicity they would do best to take a leaf out of the Queen's book and say nothing. Switch off the Instagram account and don't dignify anything with a response. As someone said further down the thread, I think they are getting very bad advice from someone (alternatively they could just be ignoring any advice they are given).

BrendasUmbrella · 03/07/2019 21:53

The tabloids (or at least the DM, the only one I keep hate tabs on) have been snarking that Harry is irrelevant since he married Meghan.

The DM has taken every opportunity to turn people against them, though they're mostly preaching to the choir anyway, and the only reason they're outraged over this is because they will miss out on all those articles where they would have stood in judgement over whether the godparents were fit to be godparents (spoiler - no they would have not been), and how they are probably awful people with terrible motives (always looking for that negative slant is a must) and then on the day itself giving a minute by minute account of the "irrelevant" family's day and all their inappropriate friends (who probably give each other real presents at Christmas instead of lumps of coal, ugh so common), with special focus on any who are deemed to be "flaunting" or "displaying" their body parts by being a woman wearing a dress in summer.

Having typed that out, I think Harry and Meghan have made a wise decision. If the tabs are so desperate to report on H & M, a good start would be taking the knives out of their backs...

Literally could not care less. Their child. Their choice. Why are you even interested? It’s not like you’re going to know them or anything.

trueprofile · 03/07/2019 22:01

Meghan darling, fire the pr agency right now

Smokeonthewater · 03/07/2019 22:01

I think they need to be really really careful about their PR. It would be much more sensible to keep quietly under the radar. Forget the teasing posts or admonishments about the environment on social media. Don't announce how you are going to control things in advance, just quietly do things a little bit differently without rocking the boat too much. It will very quickly become apparent who the godparents are because someone will talk, or look it up , as it is a matter of public record. Meghan is not being very sensible. No one would really care or notice if they made a brief announcement and moved on. Now it will become a matter of public speculation, like the birth was. I think she's enjoying teasing the public and raising her profile personally. I can't see Harry caring much , I suspect he's going along with what she wants.

It seems like a very small number of people, so I suspect there will be many Royals who won't be invited, which again will put noses out of joint. How they will avoid guests being photographed arriving and leaving I do not know.

Yet another snarling thread that has the usual undertones of racism. Give your blood pressure a rest and get on with your own lives.

please paste those examples from this thread regarding your claims?

BrendasUmbrella · 03/07/2019 22:02

They want to have their cake and eat it too

That phrase is far more applicable to the media outlets who bitch about Harry and Meghan and direct hate to them every day, yet expect to be invited to their special events.
