Just seen on the news that Harry and Meghan will not release any details of Archie’s godparents

What does everyone think? The papers seem really annoyed by their decision to keep Archie’s godparents secret. I’m not sure what to think. I don’t think it would hurt to let the public know these details and to see the christening party arrive at church.

Have I just seen Duchess Meghan arrive to watch Serena Williams play Juvan? Where's she actually sitting?

AutumnCrow · 04/07/2019 17:18

I actually am watching Serena because I urgently need some tit-constraining ideas for exercising Grin

Juvan!!

I remember hearing Paul McCartney being interviewed years ago. He said his family had no problems with being bothered by the public as they didn't go out in dark glasses with bodyguards and no one took any notice usually. He said occasionally someone one say, "You really look like Paul McCartney." and he'd laugh.

Hide in plain sight, don't keep telling everyone you're not doing this that and the other just don't do it.

Princess Anne's estate is privately owned isn't it? Didn't the Queen buy it for her, from her own fortune. I'm old enough to remember her first wedding and I'm pretty sure that was said.

Princess Anne is actually a hard working royal and does lots, she might be slowing down as she is 70ish isn't she.

MrsDimmond · 04/07/2019 18:16

Because if the next heir is under 18, which George current would be, the regent has to be around.

There is no "regent" unless the monarch is under 18 or incapacitated. So, although Harry would be in line to be Prince Regent if the Queen, Charles and William all died in the next 12 years, until that happens it's not actually a role.

roundtable · 04/07/2019 18:19

Anyone else think that the constant handwringers on the Harry and Meghan and their choices in life threads are the same weirdos who obsessed over those one direction males a while back? It's so desperately creepy.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2019 18:27

Er, no Confused

origamiunicorn · 04/07/2019 18:28

They seem to want it all their own way. They are happy to take the public's money but won't share their lives with the public.

This

findingmyfeet12 · 04/07/2019 18:36

Why are they obliged to "share their lives"?

I thought their role was to support charitable organisations and represent the Commonwealth etc?

Do the public seriously only want to support these leeches if you're allowed to peep into their guildes lives?

findingmyfeet12 · 04/07/2019 18:36

Guilded

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/07/2019 18:37

They don’t have to share their lives with no ones.

They have to follow protocol but they are under no obligation to share their lives with the public.

findingmyfeet12 · 04/07/2019 18:40

Pretty tragic that people who claim not to care are desperate to be allowed to press their faces against the window and look in!

No idea, but I strongly suspect they are the ones who openly loathed Kate Middleton until they found someone they could hate more.

It is very obviously a 'certain type' who start the threads and post their delusional shite. Including the ones who stop by on every bloody thread to stick the boot in, followed by...'of course, I really don't care about all that.'

lyralalala · 04/07/2019 19:26

The idea that Harry is somehow likely to be regent is odd though. The Queen, Charles and William would all have to pop their clogs in very short order and other senior Royals like Anne etc could surely step in.

I don’t think he’s likely to be regent, but I think there’s a decent chance it will be in the thinking as the Queen and Charles could easily both go before George is 18.

If William becomes King before George is 18 then Harry will be restricted as the potential regent, as the Duke of Gloucester was when King George VI was King.

Andrew would be next in line to be regent for George if Harry was unavailable as it’s the next in line who is over 21.

They are one of the biggest terrorism targets on the planet. Why do you think they have round the clock security costing millions. Them dying in a terrorism attack isn’t that outlandish.

Hithere12 · 04/07/2019 19:37

@NeckPainChairSearch

I hope you have absolutely nothing negative to say about anyone in the public eye or you are just as bad. They are the most famous people in the UK. Of course not every opinion will be positive!!

PCohle · 04/07/2019 19:47

The odds of them all being killed at once in an attack that managed not to kill Harry or George seems minute though. I thought they didn't all travel on the same plane for that reason?

I just very much doubt Harry's choices are being terribly restricted on the off-chance that be might hypothetically need to be regent if 3 people die.

Hithere12 · 04/07/2019 19:59

The odds of them all being killed at once in an attack that managed not to kill Harry

But as Harry becomes a more minor royal and it becomes more about Kate/Wills kids he won’t attend as many events with the “main” royals.

I know it sounds ridiculous but they are one of the biggest terror targets in the world.

I was thiinking exactly the same :-).

I'm extremely unlikely to post ridiculous projections about what I THINK might be a famous person's private behaviour, sinister intentions or any other made-up batshittery. The posts on MM are frequently horrendous.

It's one thing posting negative opinions based on fact, it's entirely another posting scathing, made-up rubbish about complete strangers.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 04/07/2019 20:20

They are perceived as biting the hand that feeds them.

Very foolish and I suspect the rest of the Royal Family are pissed off about this latest display of what can be viewed as petulant behaviour, because they're likely to go down with them.

By who? If it's only by DM readers and the handful on here who are plain weird about MM, I doubt they'll lose sleep Grin

PH and MM are 'perceived' as being popular in the real world, in my experience. No one I know gives much of a shit either way about the royal family, but when they're mentioned, MM is well liked. And why not?

Don't be absurd. Projecting much?

bee222 · 04/07/2019 20:32

I'm just baffled why anyone gives a shit about any of this to be honest.
I thought it was just Daily Express readers.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 04/07/2019 20:39

Projecting much?
Eh? Why is that "projecting?"

tillytoodles1 · 04/07/2019 20:46

They want it both ways, that's the problem. They like the wealth and security of being royal, while wanting a private lifestyle. It doesn't work like that.
