Just seen on the news that Harry and Meghan will not release any details of Archie’s godparents

What does everyone think? The papers seem really annoyed by their decision to keep Archie’s godparents secret. I’m not sure what to think. I don’t think it would hurt to let the public know these details and to see the christening party arrive at church.

Gosh just returning to this thread and seeing some very bizarre posts.
Why does anyone think leaving the EU will mean the end of the monarchy? Hmm

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 04/07/2019 13:14

What has the EU to do with the future of the monarchy?

I have absolutely no idea, but that gives you an idea of the reasoning behind the majority of the votes Grin

mushroomwall · 04/07/2019 14:05

This child will be the equivalent of Lady Sarah Chatto in years to come, in as much as you will barely hear about him.

Nah they'll always have a higher profile than her. And if Archie turns out to be really handsome and/or really wild he'll become a tabloid mainstay.

AutumnCrow · 04/07/2019 14:14

Oh God, did people really vote Leave in order to help God to save the Queen?

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 04/07/2019 14:28

Oh God, did people really vote Leave in order to help God to save the Queen?

leave, stay, to stop or maintain the monarchy, of course they have.
Shame no one is clear on which vote would actually have any influence on which outcome and people ended up voted the same way hoping for very different consequences Grin

Quintella · 04/07/2019 14:29

And another thing re. the future level of fame. These days there are so many online column inches to fill that anyone who has even the lightest of connections to fame becomes a celeb in a way that they wouldn't have in the past.

Quintella · 04/07/2019 14:33

Like Pippa Middleton became a celeb just by being sister to Kate Middleton. That didn't happen to Diana's sister. Things are different in these celeb crazed time!

janebond007 · 04/07/2019 14:41

I could understand if it were celebrities due t security etc but apparently they are private individuals so what's the big deal? Kate and will were happy to share details and there was no risk

I get that Archie is not inheriting the throne but I agree with the papers, if you want our money you do your part otherwise fuck off, be totally private and pay for it yourselves.

It says they are not trusting the British people they serve and it's just gong to get worse for them

justasking111 · 04/07/2019 14:45

Having seen Prince Andrew struggle with being second son, if I were Harry I would bugger off do stuff around the world, buy a place in USA and roam the globe making himself useful. A lot of rich folk have places scattered around the world.

NeckPainChairSearch · 04/07/2019 14:47

laughing out loud at the idea of this being to protect the godparents' privacy

Really? How odd. Do you think that MM and OH should just ignore their wishes?

Whatever makes you guffaw though.

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/07/2019 14:52

I really don't care and I don't think it's any of my business.

lyralalala · 04/07/2019 14:56

I wouldn’t be surprised if Harry wanted to live abroad, but would be under pressure not too until William’s children are older.
It’s very likely that’s Queen and Prince Charles will go in relatively quick succession and until George is 18 Harry is the one who’d be in line to be regent for him.

A bit like his great uncle had to give up his life/plans in Australia in case the Queen came to the throne before 18 Harry’s plans will include some element of the ‘well if X happens you’ll need to do Y’.

sqirrelfriends · 04/07/2019 14:58

I really couldn't care less. However they do seem to like to have everything both ways. I.e. privacy that other royals don't get while spending loads of money on a renovation of their house. Must be nice.

thedevondumpling · 04/07/2019 15:38

Since when do people select a child’s grandparents as godparents? Well I know for a fact people were doing it in 1953 because that is when I was baptised and my grandparents were also my godparents. It is recorded in a big book that is kept at the church, I know because I went to get a copy of it when I needed it to arrange my wedding, and there it is a public record in the parish records.

findingmyfeet12 · 04/07/2019 15:45

It seems that MN isn't very different from the Mail. At this point H&M should do whatever they want - in fact literally stick two fingers up at a public who will never be satisfied.

Also, please stop saying that a pp was saying that being mixed race was something to be ashamed of. That's not what she meant and you know it.

I despise monarchy and think that the institution shouldn't exist. Get rid of the lot of these underachieving leeches. Having said that, this is just bullying.

findingmyfeet12 · 04/07/2019 15:48

Other royals don't need privacy because they aren't hounded.

Some of you seem to be arguing that you'd be happy to fund these people if you got more access into their private lives. That's pretty tragic. The royals must really think we're plebs when people are that desperate to have crumbs from their table.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2019 15:56

Having seen Prince Andrew struggle with being second son...

I get the impression that Harry is a very different person to Andrew. He seems fine with "second son" and was probably happy as his nephews and niece pushed him down the succession.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 04/07/2019 16:03

With regard to their PR advice being bad, I don't believe they have shonky advisors, I think they are doing what they want regardless.
I think Harry is a spoilt drama queen and lol at the poster who said he is protecting Archie from the life he has had to endure
Christ I'll 'endure' his life then Hmm

mushroomwall · 04/07/2019 16:10

It’s very likely that’s Queen and Prince Charles will go in relatively quick succession and until George is 18 Harry is the one who’d be in line to be regent for him

Why, when William would succeed Charles?

lyralalala · 04/07/2019 16:15

Why, when William would succeed Charles?

Because if the next heir is under 18, which George current would be, the regent has to be around.

Similar to when George VI was King and his brother had to return from Australia to be around in case Elizabeth became Queen before she was 18.

Until George is 18 Harry won’t be irrelevant to the royal family as he is the one who’d be George’s regent in the event it was needed.

findingmyfeet12 · 04/07/2019 16:17

The idea that Princess Anne's children have a lifestyle that hasn't somehow benefited from the public purse is utterly laughable.

PCohle · 04/07/2019 16:27

The idea that Harry is somehow likely to be regent is odd though. The Queen, Charles and William would all have to pop their clogs in very short order and other senior Royals like Anne etc could surely step in.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2019 16:30

the regent has to be around

Travel is very easy now though. He could be back in a day.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 04/07/2019 16:43

The Tindall's live in Princess Anne's estate don't they, they're hardly living an ordinary life.
