Just seen on the news that Harry and Meghan will not release any details of Archie’s godparents

What does everyone think? The papers seem really annoyed by their decision to keep Archie’s godparents secret. I’m not sure what to think. I don’t think it would hurt to let the public know these details and to see the christening party arrive at church.

'My son's godfather is the King of England'

😂😂 FFS

The baby is not entitled to a title, unless bestowed on him.

Harry could have given him one of his "redundant" titles making him, say, the Earl of Dumbarton. They didn't even do that.

How is it 'paranoid' to observe that godparents don't usually make acceptance of the role dependent on being incognito?

Godparents don't usually get plastered all over the tabloid press just by being godparents. You can't really compare this with ordinary christenings.

Time to stand down. They want privacy. don't want to give anything back

They want privacy for their baby. The godparents themselves want privacy. What do you not understand about this?

SoupDragon · 04/07/2019 07:16

It would be no big deal to say who his godparents are

Really? Do you usually go against your friends' personal wishes like that?

Schnitzelvonkrumb · 04/07/2019 07:23

I cant really imagine what anyone wants/needs withthat info anyway? I couldnt tell you who is godparent to any other royal baby. Even if i knew the name it would most likely be someone posh one of them went to school with. What difference does it make?

The Cambridge’s have tried to be as private as possible and their child is the heir to the throne... No idea why people are purely slamming Harry and Meghan whose child will never be even within a breath of it.

I think if William and Kate had a choice, they’d have done similar. Kate takes the photographs and releases them as and when she chooses. Very few photos out there of her children.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2019 07:28

I googled the Cambridge children and I recognise the names but only because they've been linked to them in other ways before. I have no idea who they actually are. Harry isn't one which is what I googled to see.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 04/07/2019 07:30

Oh ffs, laughing out loud at the idea of this being to protect the godparents' privacy!! Grin
It's because they've chosen "celebrities," they barely know and they don't want the backlash from that, pure and simple.

Anyway, if you want privacy, then don't be a royal godparent!

SoupDragon · 04/07/2019 07:38

don't be a royal godparent!

Archie isn't royal.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2019 07:41

they don't want the backlash from that, pure and simple.

But they did want the backlash from not announcing them? 🤔

00100001 · 04/07/2019 07:46

Without googling ...

Who are George's godparents?

If you don't know the answer... That's how important it is....

00100001 · 04/07/2019 07:47

"Archie isn't royal"

Yes he is...

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/07/2019 09:09

But Kate and William renovated their 2 homes on public money. What's the difference?

  1. One of their homes is a Royal Palace, so of historical value/interest.
  1. They are the future King and Queen.
  1. Anmer Hall refurb was paid for from private Royal family funds.

And that's the whole point. It doesn't matter so why make a whole secrecy cloak and dagger saga out of it? It only gets peoples' backs up. Get on with it, it would have been forgotten by next week. Now, it's all over the media.

historysock · 04/07/2019 09:21

Agree chardonnay...
If you give people the-probably dull-information then it creates no drama and speculation and makes it a non issue.

00100001 · 04/07/2019 11:30

". It doesn't matter so why make a whole secrecy cloak and dagger saga out of it"

because they are saying the the Godparents want privacy.

What's so "cloak and dagger" about respecting privacy? If your best friend confided in you that she was 8 weeks pregnant and asked you keep it to yourself.... you would respect that (hopefully) and not go telling all and sundry.

so why all the hoo ha?

PCohle · 04/07/2019 11:36

Yes but nor would I publicly announce that a friend of mine was pregnant but that I wouldn't be naming her to respect her privacy. I'd just... not say anything.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 04/07/2019 12:19

Have they specifically said that the godparents want privacy? Or is that just a cop out?
And have royal godparents ever expressed such concerns before? Why now?
Either way, I don't believe it for a second.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2019 12:22

Have they specifically said that the godparents want privacy?

Yes

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/07/2019 12:28

OK, so you go ahead with the christening and then don’t release the names of the godparents, if they wNt to remain private.

You don’t announce that you won’t be announcing because that’s what’s feeding the media now.

They released a completely unnecessary announcement that’s created this storm in a christening cup.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 04/07/2019 12:35

Then they should have chosen different godparents, frankly.

Gottalovesummer · 04/07/2019 12:39

Harry needs to make up his mind.

Totally respect his decision to keep his family private. Good on him actually.

But for goodness sake, he needs to stop spending public money and get himself a job and pay for his own renovations(like the rest of us)

nelsonmuntzslingshot · 04/07/2019 12:43

He has always, famously, hated the press and his wife has been slagged off with unbelievable vitriol. I don't blame them. Meghan might have been ok with being in the public eye to a certain point, she was an actress, but things have gone too far. If they are making fun of the press, good for them.

The press could be their best friends or their worst enemies. Unfortunately H & M and their PR seem hell bent on the latter option.

Parker231 · 04/07/2019 12:56

@OhDearGodLookAtThisMess - why should they choose different godparents - surely they can chose who they want like anyone else. I don’t see anything wrong in people wanting their privacy respected.

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 04/07/2019 12:59

Kate takes the photographs and releases them as and when she chooses. Very few photos out there of her children.

in the UK press, there are a lot more in the foreign press.

Her and the Middleton obviously have some agreement with the paps, like her sister posing one on "candid photos" with her buggy and on holiday, but foreign paps are clearly not on that deal.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2019 13:07

Then they should have chosen different godparents, frankly.

Why?

TaxiPlease · 04/07/2019 13:08

I couldn't give a shiny shit who they are! If we stay in the EU we won't have the monarchy for long anyway.

@UserUndone
What has the EU to do with the future of the monarchy? Confused
