Mine are

  • the whoomph of hot air getting off the plane (am a slightly nervous flier so am also bloody glad to be getting off it!)
  • playing guess the nationality
  • having warm feet in flip flops

Fanta lemon and Lays crisps.

Waterparks.

Canulation · 03/07/2019 21:57

This is a weird one but when it's time to come home I love packing everything up.

Oooh, I'm completely opposite- I get convinced we've left everything behind and am on my hands and knees searching under every bed Grin

The fact it only takes a couple of minutes to get out of the door.Sundress, flip flops done.

GroggyLegs · 03/07/2019 22:07

Coffee in the early morning sun.
Watching the kids playing in the pool.
The smell of suncream.
Mystery items from the bakery.
Falling asleep while reading a book in the sun.
Showers after being hot & sweaty.
Boat trips.
Everyone getting dressed for dinner each night.
Bike rides - I'd never ride a bike on the road at home!
Having time to enjoy my family.
Having time for myself.

Ah man, we had our holiday at Whitsun, so it's all so far, far away 😭

Bunnybigears · 03/07/2019 22:11

Breakfast as an actual meal rather than an inconvenient rush.

Loveislandaddict · 03/07/2019 22:12

French supermarkets - love seeing the different range of food

French bread and cakes

(We go to France a lot)

Meeting new people

The anticipation of a holiday

HeronLanyon · 03/07/2019 22:15

Early mornings.
Smell of wood fires and spices.
Different bird song.
Away from ‘to do lists’.
Someone above said ‘my head goes quiet’ - me too even when having busy exploring day.

10marlboroughlites · 03/07/2019 22:15

That first lay on the sunbed beer in hand.
The fact that I get up early before everyone else and take my towel to the pool and lay there in complete silence reading my book.
The sit on the balcony after the evening shower with a drink

Alabasterangel6 · 03/07/2019 22:21

Not making packed-sodding-lunches

Just having time. Time to notice stuff and talk about stuff. Eating together every day. Saying ‘yes’ to more. Not shrieking ‘where are your shoes/coat/reading book’ or ‘move it NOW’

cricketmum84 · 03/07/2019 22:21

Landing (also a nervous flier)
The wall of hot air that hits when you step off the plane
The coach trip to the hotel - I love love love seeing the countryside in different countries
Not having to set an alarm for 2 whole weeks
Turning off work email notifications on my phone
Eating out every night. No cooking or washing up
The far superior quality of certain fruit and veg in Mediterranean counties (I'm looking at you tomatoes and watermelon)

15 days until we fly!!!

babyno5 · 03/07/2019 22:28

Holiday sex-can't beat it 😂

dontdoxmeeither · 03/07/2019 22:31

The best part of my days on holiday is the bit between deciding which scrummy taverna to eat at, getting ready, arriving there and taking my seat- safe in the knowledge that I'm going to have a gorgeous meal/evening.

Jsmith99 · 03/07/2019 22:38

Eating local food with the locals in the most un-touristy restaurant I can find. Particularly if I’m not entirely sure what it is that I’m ordering. You win some (amazingly delicious Georgian food in Tbilisi), and you lose some (food poisoning in Kota Kinabalu). That’s part of the fun of it.

Overseasmom100 · 03/07/2019 22:43

Shorts t shirt hair up no makeup for a week...Cornwall at its best

poppym12 · 03/07/2019 22:51

Knowing that whatever is going on at home is a few thousand miles away and I can't be expected to sort it out or be at anyone's beck and call.

The roar of the ocean. Especially at night.

timeforakinderworld · 03/07/2019 23:00

I'm in holiday now. I agree about the sound of crickets/cicadas. Not so great when they jump in through the window and you can't get them back out. 😫

Zenithbear · 03/07/2019 23:06

Swimming in the sea
The cruise ship leaving port
Flying
Eating out all the time
Holiday sex

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 03/07/2019 23:10

Real bakeries that aren't Greggs.

Warm evenings you can sit out in.

delilahbucket · 03/07/2019 23:11

Having no idea what time it is, or needing to know.
Not having to wear trousers/jeans.
Not having to check the weather forecast to see if I need a brolly.

TreacherousPissFlap · 04/07/2019 00:00

I like when you wake and the air just seems to feel different. I've tried to explain this to DH and he looked at me as if I had lost my mind Grin

I also love not being covered in dog hair

ohtheholidays · 04/07/2019 07:30

Laying on the beach, listening to the sounds of children laughing, the waves lulling backwards and forwards and the seagulls calls.

Eating fish and chips round the harbour and watching the boats go by.

Swimming in the sea.

Not having any errands to run,no meal planning,no school runs,no housework, not having to cook.

Were away at the moment(Seaside in the UK)and it's my first time having a few days break without our 5DC since I became a Mum 23 years ago and it's bloody bliss!

So far we've been on the beach, gone in the sea,had lunch(fish and chips)at an award winning restaurant by the harbour, had a stroll around the shops, had dinner at an award winning Indian restaurant, the food was amazing and all of the waiters were lovely and the restaurant was gorgeous (and it only cost us £80 for the two of us with drinks)and we've walked along the beach at night whilst the front was all lit up,had a lie in and will be having a lovely big breakfast soon and then were off out for an explore and we still have 2 days left Grin

I bloody love holidays!

Shannith · 04/07/2019 08:15

Riding through beautiful countryside without assessment lessons.

I (sort of) know what I'm doing so they tend to stick me on and off we go.

Cantering through vineyards in South Africa (while clinging on for dear life) was unforgettable.

That and the sunrise fag. Just me and the view and the nicotine Smile

Sunnysidegold · 04/07/2019 08:50

The different position of the moon really amazed me last year.
That and the cloudless skies.
Warm sea
Smell of suncream and having lovely sorry skin from putting it on all the time.
Jumping in the pool to cool down.
Seeing how blond my kids' hair goes.
Freckles on my face
Exciting things for breakfast
So much fresh fruit and lovely salads.
Also love a good poke round the supermarkets.

SouthernComforts · 04/07/2019 08:58

Ooh yes. Having a shower about 6pm and then sitting on the balcony while my hair dries in the sun with a large drink, and back when I smoked - a cigarette. Bliss.

Charley50 · 04/07/2019 09:01

Ha! I saw your thread title and the first thing I thought was the hot air hitting me as I get off the plane!
