Mine are

  • the whoomph of hot air getting off the plane (am a slightly nervous flier so am also bloody glad to be getting off it!)
  • playing guess the nationality
  • having warm feet in flip flops

Eating outdoors with the sound of running water (a fountain/ waterfall)

Being able to wear lovely summery clothes

The feeling of sun beating down on my skin

BlamesFartsOnTheNeighbour · 03/07/2019 17:16

Choosing what book to read on the plane.

Ronsters · 03/07/2019 17:21

The planning, I love deciding where to go and stay.

dudsville · 03/07/2019 17:28

Timelessness. Not being bound by having to di certain things at certain times.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/07/2019 17:32

An excuse to drink Aperol spritz every day, if I want to.

Trying different restaurants.

Being near water, especially lakes but also the sea.

Wearing what the hell I want without worrying what people might think.

Staying in bed as long as I want or staying up late, if I want.

Not being bound by bells or timetables.

Choosing whether I want noisy or peaceful, crowded or quiet.

Nobody wanting a piece of me.

probstimeforanewname · 03/07/2019 18:16

Not having to worry about what to cook. My family all like different things, it is so difficult planning meals. When we are on holiday we eat out and can all choose something we want off the menu.

Hate Haribo but you get a better class of Rittersport in Germany (although you can get lucky in a UK Lidl).

DuchessofManchester · 03/07/2019 18:45

The moment the plane takes off and its just me and dh for the next few weeks... with no demands from work or friends. Just us.

TSSDNCOP · 03/07/2019 18:49

The moment where the plane pushes back from the stand and there's only one way to go!

The warm air and jet fuel on arrival.

Dozing under an umbrella in the late afternoon.

Everyone in a lovely relaxed mood with time to chat and play.

Starry skies and the sound of crickets.

Food: all fruit and veg tastes better from non British supermarkets

Shockers · 03/07/2019 18:52

The food; napping in the afternoon sun; warm evenings; feeling carefree.

BlueSkiesLies · 03/07/2019 18:54

Eating different food to what I might cook at home
Eating in different restaurants to those I go to at home
Spending lots of time with DP, friends or family
Not going to work
Engaging in fun things

BlueSkiesLies · 03/07/2019 18:54

Oh yes, on a sunny holiday a glass or two of wine at lunch then a snooze in the shade. Bliss.

BlueSkiesLies · 03/07/2019 18:55

Oh, another biggie - Being outside nearly all the time

WhichWayForward · 03/07/2019 18:55

Eating out and especially in the evening by the water with lots of twinkly lights and local music, even better with tasty local cuisine.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 03/07/2019 18:56

Not working

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 03/07/2019 18:59

forgetting what day of the week it is.....

AnyFucker · 03/07/2019 19:01

Cake and coffee for breakfast

WhatHaveIFound · 03/07/2019 19:02

Not having to set the alarm. It's bliss.

When i'm travelling in a Muslim country i find the call to prayer strangely reassuring.

AnyFucker · 03/07/2019 19:02

Cake and coffee (and a cheeky brandy) at 4pm

Thisnamechanger · 03/07/2019 19:03

Having supper at 11pm

Smoking (somehow allowed on holiday)

Wine with lunch

Greenteandchives · 03/07/2019 19:05

Cocktail time. Choosing what to try.

Hoppinggreen · 03/07/2019 19:05

I love my dog, but on holiday it’s nice to be able to be spontaneous and go to the beach and then out for a meal without having to be back to let the dog out. We can be out all day if we want and not have to arrange a dog sitter.

FreeButtonBee · 03/07/2019 19:09

Love the hot air when you get off the plane on to the tarmac. We took the kids to a properly Med country for the first time this year and ds1 got off the plane and shouted ‘I LOVE IT HERE!’ We’ve got a sun worshipper ahead I think 😄

I love forerign supermarkets. Could spend hours in them. Love the way you think and cook differently abroad (my ideal cook to eat ratio is 4 meals at home to one meal out (only including lunch and dinner))

Drying washing Blush

Ocies · 03/07/2019 19:10

Just being the four of us.

Early morning by the pool with a cup of tea and my book.

Delicious food.

Warm sea.

Foreign supermarkets and markets.

ForalltheSaints · 03/07/2019 19:10

Seeing people with some style (rare in the Uk)

sanityisamyth · 03/07/2019 19:13

@Tinkletwat that's disgusting. That's your favourite thing to do on holiday?
