Mine are

  • the whoomph of hot air getting off the plane (am a slightly nervous flier so am also bloody glad to be getting off it!)
  • playing guess the nationality
  • having warm feet in flip flops

I love getting off the plane and feeling cold air! (live in a hot country).

Love just walking around in a city watching everyone going about their daily business, it's fascinating! Love using trams, trains and buses and the hustle and bustle of city life which I don't get where I live.

BobTheFishermansWife · 03/07/2019 19:15

Exploring. I love just wondering around being nosey.

graziemille567 · 03/07/2019 19:16

The sound of waves late at night from your hotel/villa.

Fresh tropical fruit and super fresh seafood.

Getting up because you've had enough sleep, not because the alarm wakes you (admittedly that's now a moot point with a 4 year old!).

The smell of sun cream.

Going on a beach holiday on Friday and am
So excited!

avalanching · 03/07/2019 19:16

Smells. It always smells different to home, there is an American smell, my DH doesn't get it but you could knock me out and blindfold me and I could smell if I was in the US!

The sound of crickets.

NeverHadANickname · 03/07/2019 19:19

Last time DH and I were away for the weekend I said one of my favorite things about getting away is sex in a hotel 😂 I dont know if it is just a different place or it reminds me of when we first got together.

InezInez · 03/07/2019 19:23

I love getting off the plane and walking past all the suckers who are waiting to board the plane to go home lol.

MysweetAudrina · 03/07/2019 19:24

Oh I love the warm air getting off the plane, just said it to dh yesterday.

I also love the eating and not being tied to a schedule.

I like having the time with the kids as we both work full time and don't get much down time with them.

I love reading a book in a day, don't get to do that too often nowadays.

Also love reading up about the places we visited and the areas we are in.

Hotsummerplease · 03/07/2019 19:28

The shower you have after a day at the beach is literally amazing.
Wearing clothes that I would only wear on holiday and never caring what anyone thinks.

MargotsFlounceyBlouse · 03/07/2019 19:31

Waking when you feel like it definitely. Going self catering is a revelation, I always thought AI was the dream but no. I love not being tied to a hotel restaurant clock, not wearing a fucking wristband, but instead packing the fridge or cooler with cheese and wine, bread and peaches, salami.. whatever we fancy. Eating out depending on what we fancy. Reading books from cover to cover and not giving a thought to work.

Gallusbisom · 03/07/2019 19:32

Out of office on!
New noises
Warm weather, no rain
Breakfast on the terrace/balcony
Last drink on the terrace/balcony
Amazing views
Giving another language a go - we take it in turns to order meals in language of whatever country we are in........to date we’ve not offended anyone 🤔
Long lies
Reading books by the pool

soupmaker · 03/07/2019 19:33

I love eating outdoors every day.

Not having to do anything.

It just being the four of us.

Having a glass of local wine with lunch.

Supermarkets.

AnyFucker · 03/07/2019 19:47

Getting really smooth feet and heels from walking on sand every day

DontCallMeShitley · 03/07/2019 19:51

The lack of noise when my neighbours are on theirs.

onemorecakeplease · 03/07/2019 19:56

Being outside and in the shade and it's still warm!

Snoozing under an umbrella

Late dinners and drinks

Not cooking or cleaning much

Watching the dc make friends with random kids

Lazy mornings by the pool before everyone is up

DivisionBelles · 03/07/2019 20:07

Lying by the pool doing absolutely nothing. Reading all day if I want. Foreign supermarkets. Trying somewhere different for dinner every night. Waking up early and having a coffee on the balcony.

Canulation · 03/07/2019 20:09

Smells. It always smells different to home,

YES, I totally think this and my DH says I'm mad Grin

Watching the weather forecast on the news and being happy to be in the sunny southerly spot of the U.K. instead of Scotland. Getting up really early and going out a walk along the sea front and seeing all the people in the water already . Going into hotel reception at night on way out for dinner and seeing all the old people sitting chatting waiting on their dinner .

Tinkletwat · 03/07/2019 20:19

@sanityisamyth nope, it's a small thing I love about being on holiday which is in answer to the original post. I concur with several other posts too Smile

QueenofLouisiana · 03/07/2019 20:20

Local coffee- I always try it. It’s never the same as a Costa or even my local small chain and I love that.

Reading- for hours on end.

Local radio- especially abroad for new euro-pop.

MillieMoodle · 03/07/2019 20:53

The blast of hot air as you step off the plane.

The smell of suncream.

That moment when we've got to the hotel, everything's unpacked and put away and I can finally relax.

Standing on the balcony watching the world go by and taking in the views, the sea air, the sunset/sunrise.

Frouby · 03/07/2019 21:04

We usually find a patisserie/bakery and buy massive danish pastries/apple tarts/pastries fresh each day. When we get home after our evening meal we make a coffee and the dcs have juice or water, and sit on the balcony and eat them, usually making a right bloody crumby mess.

And even better, sometimes there is a spare one left and I wake up early, make a coffee and get the spare pastry and take it and the coffee and my kindle onto the balcony and it's just sheer bliss. Feels so decadent and luxurious.

I very rarely have buns or pastries at home because I am a fat fucker and need to be sensible. But on holiday, all bets are off 😂😂

SuzieQ10 · 03/07/2019 21:35

Cleaner air, stars, peace and quiet.

hippoherostandinghere · 03/07/2019 21:41

I love this thread, it's making me very excited for our holiday in a few weeks. I love being together just the four of us, wearing the new clothes we have bought and kept for the holiday, the foreign supermarkets, not being responsible for making dinner every night.

This is a weird one but when it's time to come home I love packing everything up. I love that feeling of satisfaction when you get everything gathered up from all across the apartment tidied away neatly into your suitcase and the place is empty again.

Jojobythesea · 03/07/2019 21:51

@Thebookswereherfriends I love self catering as there is a fridge for my wine and we pick lots of different restaurants to eat at each night. No way would I be actually self catering 😂😂

Sunbeam18 · 03/07/2019 21:52

Falling asleep for a great snooze after coming back from beach/pool late afternoon and before getting showered and ready for dinner
