Which would you choose to live in? I've been pondering and planning a move to one of them but now I'm doubting myself as I love the other almost as much.

Which county do you prefer and why?

I live in Devon. It's lovely here. South coast, North coast, dartmoor, and relatively low crime. The only downside is house prices.

Gertie75 · 30/06/2019 21:33

Devon, warmer, prettier, nicer beaches, closer to other beautiful places such as Cornwall and South Wales.

sanityisamyth · 30/06/2019 21:34

Devon. I echo everything @Gertie75 says.

PigeonofDoom · 30/06/2019 21:36

Depends whether you like easy access to big cities- Yorkshire wins on that front. I like being able to live in pretty countryside with the benefits of a city just a few miles away. Both are beautiful, though. Devon is warmer, yorkshire has better curry Grin

Disfordarkchocolate · 30/06/2019 21:38

Northumberland is the best country but don't tell anyone. Second is Yorkshire.

MaidofKent78 · 30/06/2019 21:39

I have lived in Devon; now in North Yorkshire. There are pros and cons to each.

House prices in Exeter and York are fairly similar.
Yorkshire is colder but drier.
People are definitely friendler in Yorkshire.
The beaches are lovely here in North Yorkshire.
North Yorkshire Moors are as pretty as Dartmoor and not as overrun.
Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland, Yorkshire Wolds, Pennines all within striking distance.

Tough choice. I loved Devon; it felt like home even though I was a grockle. Also don't forget that Yorkshire is vast - there are huge differences depending on where you are.

MaidofKent78 · 30/06/2019 21:40

I would have said the same about Northumberland being better, but try to stop people going there as part of its charm is how quiet it is!!!

thedevilcamefromthehimber · 30/06/2019 21:41

I've lived in both and even though I'm back in Yorkshire now I would pick Devon anyday.

Dowser · 30/06/2019 21:43

Love N Yorks

haverhill · 30/06/2019 21:47

Devon. It’s breathtakingly pretty in many parts. I like Yorkshire and have family there, but wouldn’t want to live there.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 30/06/2019 21:48

Can you narrow them down at all?live in Yorkshire in a lovely place but it is a very big county.

Things to think about:-

House prices
Jobs
How close to family / friends

missbattenburg · 30/06/2019 21:48

Yorkshire.

More beautiful (I think)
Friendlier
Less tourists

Devin is lovely, though.

CinnamonCrumble · 30/06/2019 21:49

I have certain areas in mind for both counties.

I'd say Devon. I like the North because it is more the South is so busy so, on those grounds, pop off to Devon Grin

MaidofKent78 · 30/06/2019 21:51

Which areas OP?

Krisskrosskiss · 30/06/2019 21:51

YORKSHIRE! West or North! The North is more manicured whilst the west has this lush green, raw beauty. I honestly think Yorkshire is the most beautiful place in the world.
Devon is very pretty but to me it doesnt come close to the wild natural beauty of parts of Yorkshire.

Plus the northern cities are hubs of, art, music, shopping etc you've got the best of both worlds.

RunDeBumBum · 30/06/2019 22:47

Yorkshire covers a vast and hugely varied area, you need to narrow it down, north, east, south or west? Countryside, city or coast?

CinnamonCrumble · 30/06/2019 22:56

I have a few places under consideration in North Yorkshire and South Devon. Also possibly East Devon though favouring South, but I don't want to be too specific just now as I'll probably start separate threads for those and I'm just curious to know others' general thoughts on the two counties.

Yorkshire covers multiple counties/cities/unitary authorities. Where?

There has been 1.5 days of sunshine in Yorkshire this week.

UrsulaPandress · 30/06/2019 22:58

Yorkshire

Holiday in Devon.

Sorted

WalnutCabinet · 30/06/2019 22:59

North Yorkshire is the largest county in England.

So not a lot in common from Scarborough, selby, skipton and stokesley for example.

CinnamonCrumble · 30/06/2019 23:00

I know. I have areas in mind, I've done quite a bit of research. Just curious to know what others prefer.

OP posts:
WalnutCabinet · 30/06/2019 23:01

I loved Devon; it felt like home even though I was a grockle.

And now an offcumdun?

WalnutCabinet · 30/06/2019 23:02

Where are you considering in North Yorkshire?

LadyGardens · 30/06/2019 23:04

Lived in south Devon and in York. Liked both but Devon wins for me.
