Summer holiday ideas in North East to entertain 7yo - very little budget.

I have 10 weeks to fill, I’m a single parent and my max budget each week for entertainment (including food and petrol out of it) is about £100 ish. We are in in the North East and for various reasons it’s been a horrendous year and I just want a bloody lovely summer.

I so far have these ideas:

Durham botanical gardens
Camping near Bamburgh for 2 nights
Goto holy island
Walking tour of Newcastle city centre from an app I’ve found
Gibside / cragside / national trust stuff
Stand comedy club for kids show
Beamish
Durham maybe?

Help me out?! What else can I do and where else can I go?!

Preston Park Museum
Bowes Museum
Barnard Castle (market day is Wednesday I believe)
I second Shildon railway museum. The cafe there also does very good toasted teacakes😺

@Bearfrills ..I think you and I must have done all the same things with our dc but about 15 years apart!

@Bearfrills

Yes yes! I do back in the late 80's/mid 90's

Am sure there used to be an old man sat on a chair with a blanket around him to take the 50p or 20p cant quite remember, loved that place growing up.

I know you said North East England but is a train to Edinburgh feasible for a day trip? As festival has lots of free things for kids. The National Museum of Scotland is also free and has lots of different interactive things which would appeal to a 7 year old.

The best days were when they had the emergency chute inflated and you could jump down it. Happy days.

Blyth is really good, wonderful park too @TinyTickler.

MichonnesBBF · 30/06/2019 21:15

Yes to the chute but I always felt a bit sad going down as it meant your time was up Sad

Great photo @PotteringAlong feeling all nostalgic now and a bit teary for the childhood that never will be again.

We used to go to Cullercoats on nice days and they had an arcade back then plus shuggy boats and a bouncy castle next to the pirate caves. My DC looked at me like Hmm when I tried to explain what a shuggy boat is so I had to take them to Beamish to show them because they have some on their fairground.

How's that for old!? "Here kids, let's go to bloody Beamish so I can show you what the world was like when I was a bairn..."

Cullercoats is a lovely beach.

Someone mentioned Bill Quay Farm further up, but honestly I wouldn't bother. Its out of the way of anything else and there are hardly any animals there now. Best doing Ouseburn fam as part of a visit into the city.
