Sweet or savoury. I'm fascinated by the different foods that are available in the U.K and Ireland(or elsewhere) and being a greedy guts I'm keen to sample them.

What delights are specific to your area?

Butter pie! I've not had one for years and remembered their amazingness last weekend when I went over to a friends and he'd baked one. It was gorgeous! I must get the recipe as it was the best I've ever eaten

Well there used to be a seafood speciality but that got shut down as apparently it was a front for their drug dealing activities on the side.

Not sure there's anything else actually. Shame, miss their seafood concoctions.

BillywigSting · 30/06/2019 21:21

From Ireland originally so soda bread, potato cakes, bacon and cabbage (a bit old people but really really good), fig rolls, red lemonade and Guinness. The butcher in my home town makes the best sausages on the planet too gavel

Where I am now it's scouse, which is basically beef and potato stew served with pickled beetroot and pickled red cabbage and a good bowl of it is probably one of the heartiest and healthiest meals there is.

Rarfy · 30/06/2019 21:29

Yup that's the one!

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 30/06/2019 21:35

Protestant traybakes Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/06/2019 21:46

I absolutely loved the protestant traybake thread, it was hilarious and make me want to try them all, and I don't generally like sweet food.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 30/06/2019 21:48

Gypsy Tart (Envynot envy)
Ashmore Cheese
Spitfire Ale
Huffkins
Cobnuts
Canterbury Tart
Whitstable Oysters
Bishops Finger Beer (or Nun’s Delight as it was known in the less pc past)

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 30/06/2019 22:07

I’m in Essex and I know of none
Just off the top of my head, you’ve got two really famous ones....
Wilkin and Sons (Tiptree) Preserves
Maldon Sea Salt

RainbowMum11 · 30/06/2019 22:19

Derbyshire oatcakes - loads better than the Staffordshire ones 😂
Bakewell pudding
Hartington Stilton

BackforGood · 30/06/2019 22:20

Oh, I've thought of another.
Where I live, every child (my generation, my dcs' generation and all in between) grew up being served chocolate concrete as their favourite school dinner pudding.
It was only when dc1 was at University, I discovered that this isn't a National thing, but a regional thing Shock
You poor, deprived, rest of the country people Grin
