Sweet or savoury. I'm fascinated by the different foods that are available in the U.K and Ireland(or elsewhere) and being a greedy guts I'm keen to sample them.

What delights are specific to your area?

We have lobster rolls, clam chowder, fried clams, boston bakedbeans, boston cream pie, cider doughnuts, fluffernutters, cranberries, joe froggers and neco wafers.

Some are good and some not so good

Those using the correct and proper term "slice" instead of square sausage or Lorne definitely live near me...

Pizza crunch is delicious and munchy boxes are amazing.

PineappleSeahorse · 30/06/2019 15:51

There's nothing correct about slice! It's square sausage or Lorne if you're feeling posh.

The next village is nicknamed “the Lie Village” and is famous for meat and potato pie. We were on Hairy Bikers!

BikeRunSki · 30/06/2019 16:08

The “pie village” not “lie village”! Smile

lollipopguild · 30/06/2019 16:33

Hotpot, butter pie - serve both with red cabbage and peas, chips and gravy, Parkin, barmcakes

OdeYellerBelly · 30/06/2019 16:40

Link to stuffed chine. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuffed_chine

Lessstressedhemum · 30/06/2019 17:15

It's definitely slice, pineapple. Lorne is the cheap, nasty stuff that pretends to be steak slice.

PineappleSeahorse · 30/06/2019 17:19

Which part of Scotland says slice? I need to know so that I can go and tell you all in person just how wrong you are. Grin

Lessstressedhemum · 30/06/2019 17:29

North Ayrshire, for a start, pineapple. It's definitely sliceGrin

Poutine
Pouding chômeur i. e. syrup sponge pudding
Fantastic locally grown fruit and veg, especially apples, rhubarb and Strawberries

Mammyloveswine · 30/06/2019 17:31

Pease pudding and saveloy sausages...especially tasty in s saveloy dip! Yum!

Also "pan Haggerty" but I've not had it!

Plate pies are common-bacon and egg and corned beef and potato. You can probs get these elsewhere but I haven't seen them anywhere other than the north east. Lush and so easy as don't need a pie dish!

Rarfy · 30/06/2019 18:32

I'm not a pie person but we'll aware of the perches vs upex debate around here @Heaviestdirtyestsoul Grin

Rarfy · 30/06/2019 18:33

Didn't know peach melba was a North East thing but I bloody love them! And vanilla slice. Is that North East?

TapasForTwo · 30/06/2019 18:34

Isn't peach melba an Australian thing?

wellbuggerme · 30/06/2019 18:39

samphire, mussels, norfolk dumpling, oysters, game

on the coast doughnuts!

Morgan12 · 30/06/2019 18:42

It's a square sausage round my way whether it's the cheap shit or a steak square sausage.

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/06/2019 18:43

@TapasForTwo peach melba is a cake in the north east, completely different from the Australian dessert.

TapasForTwo · 30/06/2019 18:46

Ah. DH is from the north east and has never come across a peach melba cake. He is from Northumberland.

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/06/2019 18:49

North East peach melba

What regional foods are there in your area?
TapasForTwo · 30/06/2019 18:51

Nope. DH has never seen one of those before. Where in the north east?

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/06/2019 19:02

Durham, Greggs sell them, and supermarkets, or did, I left 20 years ago, perhaps other people on here can say?

BackforGood · 30/06/2019 19:08
