Sweet or savoury. I'm fascinated by the different foods that are available in the U.K and Ireland(or elsewhere) and being a greedy guts I'm keen to sample them.

What delights are specific to your area?

Lincolnshire sausage, poacher cheese, haslet (pronounced hay-slit with optional silent h for older folk, not hazlit) and plum bread. In more recent times pipers crisps. My mum remembers brawn too as being a kind of meaty jelly concoction made from the last of the pig 🤢

Haven't read the full thread apologies.

Here in Essex (london end not deepest darkest) we get fish fried in matzoh meal not batter at the fish & chip shop. Delicious - and far less greasy than batter. Wink

Stravapalava · 01/07/2019 13:45

Pork pies
Stilton cheese
Red Leicester
Walkers Crisps factory
We also have the Cofresh factory so I'm claiming Bombay Mix and all it's delicious spin offs! Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/07/2019 14:19

Cofresh chilli and lemon grills are amazing

toldmywrath · 01/07/2019 14:51

Yes we do have morning rolls in England, sorry forgot which previous Scottish poster asked.
You can get them in Tesco's, but local bakers don't tend to sell them.
Every year when I holidayed in Scotland (near Aberdeen, Scottish father) we'd have the bestest morning rolls and potted hough.
The chippy at Inverbervie was the best ever. Fact.Grin

Dorset Blue Vinny cheese, cider, apple cake, Portland lamb, watercress, Dorset knobs, Lyme Bay scallops, Weymouth crab

Atalune · 01/07/2019 15:38

I miss Ayrshire!

A well fired morning roll, with a fried tattoo scone, egg and a bit of slice in in. Dollop of HP and a glass of irn bru. Your hangover didn’t stand a chance.

Shorts pies
Red cola floats
Half pizza supper
Chip roll

foxyknoxy30 · 01/07/2019 15:39

Irn bru and a roll and lorne sausage 😃

user1489792710 · 01/07/2019 15:57

Has anyone mentioned Cullen skink yet? I'm not Scottish but it was a very happy day when I was introduced to this stuff!

And of course irn bru !

Atalune · 01/07/2019 16:01

An old boyfriend mum used to make Cullen sink. It stank the house out but tasted lovely

Likethebattle · 01/07/2019 18:47

@atalune I miss a shorts onion pie! And the red kolamusy be curries not Barr’s.

Lessstressedhemum · 01/07/2019 22:27

Atalune, I'll see your chip roll and raise you a fritter roll with brown sauce😁

My older boys used to love a roll and shorts pie!
I always preferred a cream soda float to a red cola one, tbh, but I realise that is practically blasphemy.

Overseasmom100 · 01/07/2019 22:34

Tub of mushy peas and mint sauce

GiggleMcDimples · 02/07/2019 07:20

Also,
Wagon wheels.
We have a massive biscuit factory near here and everyone knows someone who works there, so everyone has a great supply of biscuits and especially wagon wheels!

longwayoff · 02/07/2019 11:31

I love this thread full of mystery foods. Ok, I know I'm going to regret asking but what is pizza crunch? Is it deep fried pizza garnished with the greasy scraps out of of the fryer by any chance? My imagination stops there.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 02/07/2019 15:14

It's cheapo cheese and tomato pizza deep fried in batter and it's fucking DELICIOUS. Especially with gravy and salt and vinegar.

longwayoff · 02/07/2019 15:33

Blimey! No chips? Suspicious user name there, I bet you cant get that in IslingtonGrin
