Sweet or savoury. I'm fascinated by the different foods that are available in the U.K and Ireland(or elsewhere) and being a greedy guts I'm keen to sample them.

What delights are specific to your area?

Lancashire hotpot with pickled beetroot/red cabbage. My school even serves this as a school dinner. It’s really popular

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 29/06/2019 20:40

I think 'mucky fat' is what DM called dripping and poured into a bowl to use for next Sunday's roast potatoes.

Here we have asparagus, native oysters, samphire, classy jam and some bloody good beer.

ilovepinkgin33 · 29/06/2019 20:41

Lancashire hotpot!!!!
How the bloody hell did that slip my mind

Always with both red cabbage and beetroot and a splodge of HP

mawof3soontobe · 29/06/2019 20:44

Omg how did I forget plain bread!!! A big ootsider piece and slice and Tattie scone Grin

Ronsters · 29/06/2019 20:47

Mucky fat is dripping with the scrapings of meat/the crispy bits from the roasting tray, dripping "deluxe", if you like. If you roast a fatty joint, let it cool and then scrape it off, you have the West York's "delicacy" of mucky fat.
It often separates into a jelly with a fatty/bitty crust on top.

IggyAce · 29/06/2019 20:50

@Chancewouldbeafinethlng you got there first with a parmo and lemon top.

queenofmycastlex · 29/06/2019 20:50

Butteries & deep fried mars bars! (NE Scotland)

JudgeRindersMinder · 29/06/2019 20:53

Dundee cake 😁

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 29/06/2019 20:53

And that jelly from under dripping is the food of the gods...
Beef makes the best (as well as being the best fat for Yorkshires).

Xiaoxiong · 29/06/2019 20:56

At first I thought we didn't have any specialties like everyone else's cool regional dishes, then I remembered Eton mess, brown Windsor soup, poor knights of Windsor and snail pudding a la Heston. No guesses as to where I live Wink

Madcatgirl · 29/06/2019 21:02

Bury black pudding, hot pot and red cabbage.

Verily1 · 29/06/2019 21:12

Clootie dumpling.

Wandastartup · 29/06/2019 21:32

I was going to ask what the pink version of pineapple tarts is called as I had one in Lanarkshire but from the above I’m assuming raspberry or strawberry tart( it was hard to tell!)

Philosoraptor · 29/06/2019 21:35

Saveloy dips

PineappleSeahorse · 29/06/2019 21:35

Yes, raspberry tarts. The strawberry tarts are rather different.

Raspberry tart.

And the rather different strawberry tart. You can also get larger flatter ones.

Wandastartup · 29/06/2019 21:39

I took a photo as I wondered what it was & yes it was definitely a raspberry tart!!

Unihorn · 29/06/2019 21:42

Chips with curry sauce Grin

ThursdayLastWeek · 29/06/2019 21:43

Pasties, cider, clotted cream.

Oh and a prize winning cheese called Cornish Kern which I tried just this week and it really is delicious!

PineappleSeahorse · 29/06/2019 21:44

The correct way to eat a raspberry or pineapple tart is to select the one with the highest 'dome' eat around it, save the dome for last, pop it into your mouth whole and crush it with your tongue.

Butteries/rowies are a local delicacy! A healthy mix of lard, flour and salt, delicious toasted and buttered 😋

Daisychainsandglitter · 29/06/2019 21:56

Orange chips and pork, stuffing applesauce and gravy baps.

soundsystem · 29/06/2019 22:21

Hang on, is plain bread a Scottish thing?! Well I never!

SpanielPlusToddler · 29/06/2019 22:26

Cullen skink, tablet, shortbread, malt whisky, butteries (also called rowies) broth, mince and skirlie
