What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?

Recently bought a MacAir which is a thing of beauty and wonder. Am also gradually replacing cheap crockery with lovely Denby stuff.

I now buy good quality bras instead of M&S and more 'high end' makeup.

So I'm not talking houses, cars, horses etc. What have you bought/upgraded that you love so much more than the cheaper version and has been good value?

My cats, they are from a specialist rescue so the adoption fee was quite high. And their food and insurance costs me a fortune every month. But they are worth every penny.

Dyeing cordless. Life changing

Constance1234 · 29/06/2019 12:47

A Vitamix!

Wallpaper for two rooms that cost 70 plus per roll. And we needed a lot of rolls. You can really see the difference with the expensive paper, it's beautiful.
High end make up, particularly foundation, concealer, powder and mascara.
Good sunglasses. The lenses on a good pair are streets ahead of the cheaper brands. You can even wear them inside (not that I'd want to) and still see clearly with no colour distortion.
Hilfiger skinny jeans. They hold their shape and last for years. I have several pairs in different colours. Cheaper brands like M&S simply bag, are too thin and the shape is a bit weird.

My Quooker 11 years ago. Was 900 Euros back then when I upgraded the kitchen. Kitchen suppliers fitted the wrong sink, and gave me the Quooker free as an apology (would have involved ordering a new granite work surface to fit the right sink). I love that Quooker - so handy for filling saucepans quickly for pasta and veg etc, teas, coffees etc. Would never be without one again.

Oh and my stunningly expensive bed - also from 11 years ago. So expensive I would be embarrassed to be honest about the cost, but my God it's comfortable.

A pair of Fly London Shoes. A Becco Gemini baby carrier

Hedgehogblues · 29/06/2019 12:56

Oh and a kindle paperwhite. Means I can read in the dark next to my baby when she's sleeping.

@Kelsoooo, the mesh bags for socks is a genius idea! With 3DC I lose the will to live trying to sort out their socks.

Yes to good bras! And making sure you know how to fit one properly. Have done a "bra intervention" on my friend. She was dubious. She used to buy crappy £6/8 bras from Asda and didn't have a good fit.
After her complaining about how her boobs hurt etc I said I'd take her bra shoppers.
She spent £35 on one bra and was very sceptical and a bit unsure.... A few months later she said about how much better they were, both from fit and how it lasted and still looks like new :)

Also, good pots and pans.

Decent cycling shorts. Cost me £95 Shock, but undercarriage is very grateful Grin.

@dearohdearohdear9
Thank you for info
I'd never even heard of steam washing machines before
I'll investigate as current machine is getting on a bit

My Simple Human bin. It is the perfect size and shape and changing the bin liners is so easy it's almost a pleasure. I mean, obviously it's still just a bin, but it is a really great one!

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 29/06/2019 13:17

Clinique make up.
A regular professional blow dry. It has genuinely made a difference to my mental health, after years of hating my hair.
Gel manicure over a regular one. I don’t get them done often, but when I do they last for weeks.

A ticket to see Elton John in concert in November 2020! God knows if he will even be alive by then let alone able to sing but I love him and have never seen him live before so im taking my chances

saucyspice · 29/06/2019 13:34

Definitely agree with the MacBook Air.

Gel manicures
Ray Ban sunglasses
Boux avenue ultra boost bras
my Kindle
HD Brows (when done properly and not massive thick brows)

saucyspice · 29/06/2019 13:35

Also my Apple Music subscription, so much easier to use than Spotify and I use it pretty much all the time in my car and at home.

DareDevil223 · 29/06/2019 13:38

Shark cordless vacuum which I love and my Baavet wool duvet which was worth every penny for the blissful comfort it provides.

madcatladyforever · 29/06/2019 13:40

The most beautiful frames on special handmade shelving for my pets and relatives that have died. I have a memorial corner and it's just lovely. I put flowers there that are in season and it keeps me feeling close to them.

Aaarrgghhh · 29/06/2019 13:42

My headphones. They were over two hundred and I genuinely love them. Even without playing a podcast they are great at dampening the noise of my children. I can podcast during the day with them and clean while wearing them and they are wireless which helps so much. But the best part is putting them on and ignoring the kids having a tantrum.

Buzzfrightyears · 29/06/2019 13:44

I brought a pair of gold Jimmy Choo ballet pumps from Paris. They were around £250 I think, and the comfiest shoes I ever wore. I wore them for YEARS and never bothered with Primark or New Look replacements every few months. I miss them and wish I could afford another pair!!

S0CKS · 29/06/2019 13:48

My bed - we figure we spend most of our away from work time asleep so we deserved the best bed we could afford... 2k and worth every penny.

Coach handbags - i feel really nice carrying them and they make me happy.

Really nice holidays four weeks a year i want luxury and to make memories.

BellatrixLestat · 29/06/2019 13:54

1000 thread count Egyptian cotton bed sheets!

Cost over £100. Totally worth it.

InFiveMins · 29/06/2019 13:56

Spent about £1,300 on a new mattress. Was fed up of waking with back pain and aching limbs. I wake up now feeling fresh with zero (or very minimal) aching!

Whattodo13333 · 29/06/2019 13:58

Mulberry handbag(s) and purse, they last and last. Xxx😍

sonjadog · 29/06/2019 14:01

RagingWhoreBag, interesting about the robot vacuum cleaner. I have looked at them, but haven't been convinced that they wouldn't get stuck under things and have been unsure about how well they would deal with dog hair.

I have also had laser eye surgery. But I am sorry to tell you younger people who don't need reading glasses yet, that you will still need them as you get older. I was without glasses post-surgery until in my early 40s, when the need for reading glasses turned up. Now I have prescription sun glasses, which are excellent.
