What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?

Recently bought a MacAir which is a thing of beauty and wonder. Am also gradually replacing cheap crockery with lovely Denby stuff.

I now buy good quality bras instead of M&S and more 'high end' makeup.

So I'm not talking houses, cars, horses etc. What have you bought/upgraded that you love so much more than the cheaper version and has been good value?

I've recently discovered jo malone bars of soap and I don't think I'm ever going back to liquid soap. For me £15 a bar is crazy money but they last so long and smell soooo good!

BelindasGleeTeam · 29/06/2019 11:25

When we got married we bought solid wood furniture for the living room. Still bring sold in exactly the same style. I love it. Feels so much nicer than IKEA (the rest of the furniture!)

Spare covers for the (cheap IKEA) sofa. I now have winter and summer colour ways for my living room.

Miele 'silent' vacuum cleaner. Cylinder. Got it on black Friday sale. Swear we have far lest dust on all the surfaces since I got it. It's utterly brilliant and so quiet.

My John Lewis super expensive bedding. Bastard to iron but feels like a 5* hotel bed when it's on.

LittleMachine · 29/06/2019 11:25

Hotel rooms with a private pool. All the benefits of having all inclusive with young children, but peace and quiet when we want it, and no sunbed wars! Once we’d done it, we couldn’t go back, so now we only book holidays with a private pool or swim up room.

Business class for long haul flights

A superking bed and good quality linen and pillows

Decent shoes, if your not in bed your in your shoes so get the best you can afford!

Jersey full fat milk, delicious

Good quality glasses for drinks, wine is so much better!!!!!

Getting my kitchen changed from cupboards to drawers everywhere, soft closing ones. I can access everything in my kitchen without having to bend down .

An electronic bidet has revolutionised going to the loo !

Oh I love this thread!

I get Russian lashes applied professionally every month, they cost over 100 quid for a new set but is so good for time saving in the mornings. Also look great in the gym etc 🤣

Also got my eyebrows microbladed (around 400 quid) and I can't recommend that enough! Need minimal makeup for work with lashes and brows already on!

I also have a special love for my Manolo Blahnik heels - same blue ones with crystals that Mr Big proposed to Carrie with in Sex and the City 😄

Well you did say a splurge
My static caravan. Paid £13,000 two years ago. £4.5k on a solid wood huge deck.
£1000 to transport and resite it.
Then about another two grand ..probably nearer three to put in new mattresses, have laminate floor laid. New curtains, new dinning set, deck furniture, tv,
So, probably £22 to £23k to set it all up with bedding, crockery but we spend 4 days a week here on average from April to end of November.
Excluding our spring and autumn breaks abroad.

Basically it’s a money pit but it’s an investment in the quality of our life..which is fabulous
Living just 20 mins away from a big city we do things we don’t do at home ( small town on the coast)

Last night we went to a gig which was excellent...and we weren’t the oldest there either.

We aren’t always in the best of health so this ticks a lot of boxes. Quiet days when energy is low and living it up when we feel we can.

On top of the start up costs, there’s yearly ground rent which is a bit ouch but compared to a lot of sites it’s very reasonable.
Probably because it’s a field with no amenities...just how we likeit

I bought an ice making machine a couple of months ago. My husband moaned that it was a ridiculous waste of money. Today he admitted (with 4 kids now on school holidays and a heatwave) that I was right and a supply of ice is very handy.

Dowser · 29/06/2019 11:38

Suki..yes definitely iPad Pro too..and there’s just enough juice in the air to be able to use in in our secluded spot at the caravan

MuffinMad · 29/06/2019 11:40

My Ankarsrum Assistant. It's a big stand mixer thing from Sweden. Cost over £600.

I was wanting the KitchenAid Pro and decided on this.

It's a simple concept but works brilliantly.

I love it.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 29/06/2019 11:41

Yogagirl123 · 29/06/2019 11:48

Yes, proper butter only!
Yes, prescription sunnies
And least popular with mumsnet, but I am really pleased with it Lazyspa inflatable hot tub, very skeptical when I brought it, but it is really good and has a lot of use, my teens love it and it helps reduce my pain, would recommend.

Dowser · 29/06/2019 11:59

Yes to good dark chocolate. I’m not interested any more in the Cadbury’s shite
prescription sunglasses are a must for me
Love the ideas here

Going to google macbooks
Would love to hear mnetter’s experience with campervan
Is that an old one you have refurbished

losenotloose · 29/06/2019 12:09

Laser hair removal on my bikini line. Wish I'd had it done 10 years ago!

fraxion · 29/06/2019 12:12

My husband has a MacBook Pro and I have an iPad Pro 12.9 and we love them. We've been an Apple family for years as we love the integration.

Purpletigers · 29/06/2019 12:13

Beautiful made to order curtains which I have had for over 10 years and will have for many more .
Solid furniture which will last a lifetime and then be passed on to my children .
Original art which makes me smile everyday.
I got lots of Denby as wedding presents many years ago and I haven’t bought a plate or bowl since other than to replace a couple of breakages. ( use Tesco points in the Denby sale for some unbelievable bargains )

Lafuma garden recliners - 4/5 years old and still in great condition .
I tend to buy higher quality items with the expectation they won’t have to be replaced for a long time if ever .
Always real butter “Golden Cow “ and fillet steak

mabelmylove · 29/06/2019 12:14

Jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 29/06/2019 12:22

Buggy for the dog.

Dh wasn't impressed when I told him it was nearly £200 which is far more than I paid for DC's buggy back in the day.

Ageing dog who was struggling on our longer walks, resulting in one of us inevitably carrying him on the way back to the car. I have a bad back so not ideal.

Now I actually enjoy our walks, can relax and go further and walk faster than before we had the buggy. It's like when ddog was younger and we'd walk quickly everywhere.

Can honestly say its changed our lived for the better

OhTheRoses · 29/06/2019 12:24

A really really good coat every 10 years.
A Caroline Charles velvet evening coat.

winterisstillcoming · 29/06/2019 12:29

My contigo flask. Saved myself a fortune in on the go coffees and a godsend at the children's matches. Never spills, piping hot after 4 hours.

My pro perfect curl. Salon ready hair in 20 mins.

Olaplex no split ends despite bleaching and curling hair.

My iphone - seriously underrated but get so many emails, orders done in those little 2 mins

MissConductUS · 29/06/2019 12:30

The series four Apple Watch. I'd wanted one for years and finally got one last winter. It's brilliant. I've lost about 10 pounds because it's so good at nagging motivating me to exercise and stay active. And I love being able to see what the temperature is outside by looking at my watch. I never miss a text or a call now because I can silence my phone and the watch notifies me if I get one.

Well done Apple.

Owlish · 29/06/2019 12:33

@Benjispruce that wasn't me, sorry!
