What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?

Recently bought a MacAir which is a thing of beauty and wonder. Am also gradually replacing cheap crockery with lovely Denby stuff.

I now buy good quality bras instead of M&S and more 'high end' makeup.

So I'm not talking houses, cars, horses etc. What have you bought/upgraded that you love so much more than the cheaper version and has been good value?

Cordless Dyson. Two years ago and I still love it.

TheLoverOfTea · 29/06/2019 10:34

My amazing robo lawn mower!

Cashmere cardigans. Any other wool seems scratchy and uncomfortable now.

fraxion · 29/06/2019 10:41

Oh yes to cashmere, it lasts for years if you look after it.

dearohdearohdear9 · 29/06/2019 10:42

Steam washing machine, it has made life so much easier and saves me money. Roomba pet hoover, ijet, John lewis natural matteress (bought a second) its wonderful. Best yet a baavat wool quilt which helps my hot flushes.

Can you tell my children have recently left home? Grin

My bed. It’s one of my favourite places to be and is lovely and comfy.

The fridge gets compliments and keeps things so fresh for so long - I love it!

ProfYaffle · 29/06/2019 10:47

Replacing our wooden picnic table in the garden with comfy rattan sofas. We now spend hours sitting out whereas before we'd have to go in with sore bottoms!

After regularly having cheap pop up gazebos collapse and break in the wind, we got a metal pagoda from IKEA with a removable fabric roof. It’s stayed put through everything as long as you take off the roof in really strong winter wind and looks lovely.

Off to google steam washing machine now

Memory foam mattress. Oh my.
Really good kitchen knives (more DH's than mine, I wouldn't spend that much on a piece of metal).
Pure cotton fitted sheet. I'm about to get another one of those.
Bras that actually fit.
Proper waterproof trousers.
And a very minor splurge (under a tenner) but a small, good quality pair of secateurs that I carry when dog walking to unblock overgrown footpaths.

I've just got my second pair of prescription sunglasses - bifocals this time.

Yabbers · 29/06/2019 10:56

Coincidence?

What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?
needmorespace · 29/06/2019 11:00

macbook pro - around £1700 had for five years, feels like new to me.
cost per use is minuscule Blush

BestIsWest · 29/06/2019 11:01

Our bed. It cost a fortune at the time but has been worth every penny. It needs replacing now and We will do the same again.

Also bed linen.

LittleCandle · 29/06/2019 11:04

Laser eye surgery. Cost me the last of my savings, but it has been life changing. I also love that I was able to buy sunglasses reading glasses on amazon.

Travel. We are going back to the US again this year, although we hadn't intended to go again so soon (went last year). I never thought, before I got divorced, that I would ever be back in the US and this will be my 4th trip in 6 years. I won't be back for another few years after this, as I need to save hard, but it is so worth it.

Moondancer73 · 29/06/2019 11:05

Fly London boots. Expensive at £120 for ankle boots but just super comfy and last forever.

thethoughtfox · 29/06/2019 11:07

Macbook

Sunglasses

thethoughtfox · 29/06/2019 11:08

Laser eye surgery too. I cried the first time I saw my daughter's eyes clearly from across the room.

MaMisled · 29/06/2019 11:09

A campervan. Oh my, the fun we've had!!!

Paddingtonthebear · 29/06/2019 11:10

Proper butter
Decent sunglasses
Miele vacuum cleaner
When DD was a baby - decent pushchair
Quality swimming lessons

EggysMom · 29/06/2019 11:11

Nine years ago I 'splurged' on two tall, proper wooden, bookcases from Ikea, out of the bargain corner (I think they were ex-display). They are still things of beauty, and will last forever as long as I'm here.

dearohdearohdear9 · 29/06/2019 11:13

@abitoflight I have the hotpoint ultima 9k with steam refresh cycle. Some machines only steam within the wash cycle, which is no good to save on dry cleaning. It does however remove stains well and save on washing powder and electric. Think 40 degree wash and steam. Its a thing of beauty

My Mini Cooper
Air conditioning unit

flippedoff · 29/06/2019 11:14

Tempur mattress. I don't feel 1000 years old every morning since we've had it. It seems to align everything somehow.

Upgraded accommodation and experiences while travelling.

ACPC · 29/06/2019 11:14

Rainforest shower. Not actually as expensive as they look and worth every penny.

Seniorschoolmum · 29/06/2019 11:16

I bought a specific car which was expensive for me. 234,000 miles later, still going strong Smile
