Recently bought a MacAir which is a thing of beauty and wonder. Am also gradually replacing cheap crockery with lovely Denby stuff.

I now buy good quality bras instead of M&S and more 'high end' makeup.

So I'm not talking houses, cars, horses etc. What have you bought/upgraded that you love so much more than the cheaper version and has been good value?

Felco secateurs plus my small range of Japanese garden tools

Milk Frother

Prescription sunglasses

We put a garden room in our courtyard when we moved here, after knocking down an old wall, and replaced the wall with hand made bricks so that it fit in with the original 1880 wall. you wouldn't know it was only 10 years old. Cost me a bomb, but every time I look at it I love it. Plus the garden room means I have an office that I can walk out of at the end of the day and walk back into in the morning, and not have work hanging round me all weekend/evening.

HRT.

Oh, my John Ryan mattress was £500 and is like sleeping on a cloud. My DH wasn't keen on spending on it but he admits it was worth it now.

Fibbke · 29/06/2019 10:02

Horses.

Itsagrandoldteam · 29/06/2019 10:06

Our bed - it's a mammoth 3000 super king, it cost about £2400 for the mattress and base (retailed at over £3000 at the time) but it's been worth every penny.

Shoes and trainers - have to be good quality, but we have a good outlet mall near us, so we never pay full price.

My tattoos but particularly my leg tattoo. It's done by an artist whose work I had loved for years and never thought I would manage to get tattooed by. He has now moved to Canada so I'm very happy I got it done when I did.
Hopefully my coffee machine that I'm picking up today. It's only a filter one and not a fancy bean to cup one but at least I can give up the bloody expensive when you drink as much as I do instant coffee.

Spinnaret · 29/06/2019 10:07

@Smokeonthewater it was the predecessor model to this one.

Simple Human bin with separate compartments for recycling, we'd got into a bad habit of leaving the recycling on the worktop for the next time anyone popped outside and it got to the stage where there was pretty much always something waiting to go in, now we put it straight into the indoor bin which is emptied into the outdoor ones every couple of days.

This is going to seem a bit prosaic, but I make most of our bread and upgraded from an ordinary bread knife to a proper electric slicer. It makes a HUGE difference and I can get more slices, which look like shop-bought artisan pre-sliced, but tastes waaay better.

Benjispruce · 29/06/2019 10:09

itsa there's me thinking £500 was a lot for a mattress! Blush

Benjispruce · 29/06/2019 10:10

My Delonghi coffee/espresso machine.

Benjispruce · 29/06/2019 10:12

owlish I am looking for a good bin like that but want one for food waste too so need 3 compartments. How many does yours have?

Owlish · 29/06/2019 10:14

Oh, also, I bought a pair of Muckboots at the end of last winter. Bloody brilliant in the snow and ice we got suddenly. I had comfortable, warm, dry tootsies however long I was out.

I love and adore my Thermomix. I was a decent cook before but now I can make anything, and it’s so easy! I also love my top of the range Miele washing machine and drier. I won them, and would never have spent $9000 on them, but they are amazing and I love doing the washing now. And my final thing that was worth every cent is my Ragdoll cat because is so soft and funny and fluffy and I love him!

Interesting that so many people go for prescription sunglasses.

I went for eye zapping and can now buy sunglasses from anywhere, don't have to shell out for lenses and glasses, and can see from the moment I open my eyes in the morning.

Stopyourhavering64 · 29/06/2019 10:18

Linen bed linen....so comfy and fabulous in the summer for keeping cool in bed!

ICJump · 29/06/2019 10:18

Joie pact pram. It’s so bloody light and small it made a huge difference to my back and pelvic floor.
Samsung 11kg washing machine. It fits a king size duvet
Dyson stick vacuum
Multi cooker/pressure cooker I use 4-5 times a week at a minimum but aimed times 3 times a day.
Self misting fan. I live somewhere hot and we have no air con and the self misting fan is just wonderful

jackstini · 29/06/2019 10:23

Tempur mattress & pillows - used nearly every day and worth every penny

DH says hay fever injection - although that's actually worked out cheaper than all the tablets!

Favourite wine. It's a bit more but every time I opened a bottle of something cheaper I regretted not paying the extra £2-3!

RagingWhoreBag · 29/06/2019 10:23

Ooh yes IPL too - I got a tax rebate and thought I’ll never have £600 spare again so it’s now or never. Utterly life changing!! I was so paranoid about facial hair all my life, but 6 sessions of IPL on my whole face hairline to neck, now I can go outside in confidence, talk to people without covering my mouth or dipping my head down in case I have a stray chin hair etc! It made a huge difference to how I feel about myself. I also bought a home IPL machine for my legs and pits which has also made a massive difference. £250 well spent, especially when you see the price of razors!

Jsmith99 · 29/06/2019 10:24

My set of proper French Laguiole steak knives. They are absolutely superb, and we use them whenever we can. Not exactly child-friendly, though...

dancemetotheend · 29/06/2019 10:25

Lots of beautiful flowers and plants for my newly landscaped garden.

pongopig · 29/06/2019 10:26

Robot vacuum. I do a quick tidy up, then switch it in, it’s brilliant. Saves so much time and does it more thoroughly than I do.

Agree with Philips Lumea. I bought the basic model which plugs in. Think it was about £100 but worth every penny.

fraxion · 29/06/2019 10:27

My Protected Species parka, love it. Our Denby has being going over 20 years 😳, our Miele washing machine is 15 years old. All worth every penny. We splurge an inordinate amount on travelling but it is something we both love and we cherish the memories. We badly need a new kitchen, swithered about it then booked a big holiday to SE Asia for 3 weeks at new year instead.

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 29/06/2019 10:29

Last winter I bought an oil filled radiator. It was £200. We only have storage heaters and they were ridiculously expensive to run, as well as the fact we were still cold! We were toasty warm all winter.
Decent butter and nice bread.
And this little man

What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/06/2019 10:31

Yes to travel. I need a new cabin case (have a thread on S&B at the moment) and would like to buy a half decent one, instead of the usual cheapo stuff.
