What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?

Recently bought a MacAir which is a thing of beauty and wonder. Am also gradually replacing cheap crockery with lovely Denby stuff.

I now buy good quality bras instead of M&S and more 'high end' makeup.

So I'm not talking houses, cars, horses etc. What have you bought/upgraded that you love so much more than the cheaper version and has been good value?

A Musto sailing jacket - bought 20 years ago when discounted to £100, and the comfiest warmest thing ever. Still looks new too. Also some sensible shoes - classic, but over 20 years old too (NOT worn every day...) £300 having all my fillings replaced 40 years ago ... just beginning to crumble now. Good quality useful stuff that lasts and lasts and does the job (that's my Yorkshire side coming out).

Thanks Remus will have a look.

High thread count bedding. Bloody love it!

Mumto123monkeys · 30/06/2019 18:07

My sister in law told me this saying- ‘I can’t afford to buy cheap’
It’s so true, so now we always by the best quality we can, or don’t bother! It’s such a false economy to buy cheap. Our mattress taught us that- £2k but still brand new looking 10years on!

Clinique makeup. I don't wear makeup daily but I needed some for my wedding. Having always made-do with Rimmel and other supermarket el cheapo stuff, I really wanted to have quality makeup on the day.

So I went to a Clinique counter and asked for a full, natural look. I bought all the products (no serums and primers but all the basics) at a cost of £160. They showed me how to apply it and I just replicated it on the day, and since for going out etc.

I love it and I've never bought cheap makeup again, I just replace my clinique staples. I'm still shocked at my splurge haha 😁

Wish I'd done it years ago!

I do not spend hundreds on hair and make up a month but I insist on:

MAC make up
M&S underwear

A lovely multi-coloured rug for the living room when I'd normally buy something neutral. Its personality changes the whole room (really pulls it together Grin) and it makes me feel happy and brave every time I look at it.

Real amber necklace (great big chunky 2" beads, the most expensive piece of jewellery I own, that I bought when my late OH died.
Every time I wear it I think of Jon and it makes me smile.

Blibbyblobby · 30/06/2019 18:10

Oh yeah, and an accidental splurge on a £500 wool coat in the perfect style for me when I messed up the USD exchange rate, which turned out to be worth every penny because it makes me look instantly stylish and under control.

Irobot vacuum
Irobot mop
XXL air fryer - I hardly use the oven or hob because this is so much quicker and easier.

EvilHerbivore · 30/06/2019 18:12

@LauraRo that's beautiful! Do you take commissions?

iambouddica · 30/06/2019 18:12

Philips Lumea. Life changing.

Lucky to have been gifted my iPad Air which barely leaves my side and laser eye surgery.

My tent. (And the trailer and tow bar needed to carry it)
It is perfect for our family. Stays rock solid in high winds, and hasn't yet leaked.

The wraparound baby sling. I had been given 3 others second-hand, but I wanted that one. Used it for 4 kids.

I’ve always loved high end makeup but for last couple of years I’ve been using cheaper ( but just as good products) such as American drug store items. I recently paid off my car so as a treat, I splurged nearly £200 on Jeffree star eye palettes , lip products and accessories. I’m in love with them. I used to spend a fortune on posh mulberry bags and items but I stick with Karen Millen now as more affordable and some are much nicer.

A Freud teaball that my daughters gave me for my birthday. It’s about 10 years old and cost a fair bit but I use it every morning for my first cuppa. I still have great pleasure looking at it Smile

murakamilove · 30/06/2019 18:20

Shark - they are AMAZING!

namynom · 30/06/2019 18:24

I agree with PPs re my robot vacuum. He’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

Sosayi · 30/06/2019 18:25

For all you with laser eye surgery both DH and I have had laser surgery and we both need to wear glasses on occasions
I need them for driving at night and watching tv despite when having my eyes tested the optician said my eyesight was still excellent 😂
DH has gone very long sighted and needs glasses for driving
We both had our eyes done over 12 years ago
I only started to need to wear glasses this year

My mulberry purse cost over £400 but I use it every day and it’s worth every penny
Our bed expensive 2000 10 years ago but it’s amazing and I sleep so well in It

ilikemethewayiam · 30/06/2019 18:26

Bose Bluetooth headphones! 🎧 Cost a fortune 3 years ago but they are the best money I’ve ever spent. I can listen to music as loud as I like without disturbing anyone else. I can also take calls through them handsfree whilst still getting on with housework etc. They are a godsend!

Amibeingdaft81 · 30/06/2019 18:26

An oscillating remote tower fan today...

Amibeingdaft81 · 30/06/2019 18:27

Number 1 is laser eye surgery

Amibeingdaft81 · 30/06/2019 18:28

I had it done 13 years ago and 20/20 vision remains

BikeRunSki · 30/06/2019 18:28

My sleeping bag. Cost well over £100 in 1992, has been in use several times a year since then. It’s had 2 new zips, and has had the down topped up once. It was shockingly expensive at the time, but I knew I’d get use out of it. More Cub camp than mountaineering these days though.
