What have you splurged on that has been worth every penny?

Recently bought a MacAir which is a thing of beauty and wonder. Am also gradually replacing cheap crockery with lovely Denby stuff.

I now buy good quality bras instead of M&S and more 'high end' makeup.

So I'm not talking houses, cars, horses etc. What have you bought/upgraded that you love so much more than the cheaper version and has been good value?

I use Denby White in the kitchen. For two/three years I have topped it up at TKMax.

Raybans , always thought they were a waste then I tried a pair and seen the difference. Unbeatable and worth every penny (live in aus so wear daily - even now in winter! )

exLtEveDallas · 30/06/2019 08:33

Our hard shell suitcases. They make such a difference to the condition of the clothes when unpacking. And I'm glad we went for the impossibly bright blue ones - can see ours on the reclaim from about 20m!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/06/2019 08:37

Palindromic - yes 're pens. I bought a couple of Lammy fountain pens and they have made such a difference to my life!

Also - nice mugs. Drinking out of a nice cup at work makes my morning coffee feel so much more pleasurable!

Bose quiet comfort earphones. They really do block out noise. Had some cheaper Phillips earphones that were supposed to be noise cancelling but despite needing to out a battery in them, I'm not convinced there was any actual noise cancelling going on. The Bose ones however are amazing - they block out the noise of the rowing machine so I don't need the volume of the music very high at all!

My beautiful kitchen/diner - cost ££££££s but, after years of having a tiny galley kitchen, I wake up every day feeling so happy that i can eat my breakfast at my lovely island unit in my big, light and airy kitchen.

Aveda products have made a huge difference to my fine, flat hair.

Liz Earle is great for my sensitive skin, no more itching.

Our king sized bed.

lilpumpsmum · 30/06/2019 09:46

Those of you that said your Philips Lumea ....

How often do you use it? I bought one years ago but never bothered using it regularly so it's gathering dust. Might dig it out again

PepeLePew · 30/06/2019 09:57

In the spirit of ‘upgrades’, rather than ‘things I like that cost lots’, my Sony Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones are fantastic for listening to audiobooks on public transport. Also, dip powder manicures rather than DIY - better for my nails than gel and last for ages. And an upgrade to a nicer room on holiday recently; gave us access to the lounge where we could enjoy lovely views and great food all day which ended up costing less than endless snacks and drinks by the pool would have done.

A woman who cleans once a week. She's been coming to us for over 20 years.

CoolBee · 30/06/2019 10:29

Cordless dyson. It changed my life.

onemouseplace · 30/06/2019 10:33

A 3 burner Weber gas BBQ after years of charcoal ones. DH was in two minds about it as it was quite expensive, but it has been worth every penny, we use it loads and it still looks as good as new even though we've had it the best part of 10 years now.

anitagreen · 30/06/2019 11:08

My pram its a Bugaboo chameleon 3. I bought in 2015 for just under 1000 it's done me two kids from newborn to toddler, and now will do this baby too. Still looks immaculate everyone moaned when I bought it and said it's a waste and a stroller would of done but they all needed to be replaced and was worn out, the cam wasn't Grin

DeadButDelicious · 30/06/2019 11:17

My Apple Watch. I love it. I'm trying to lose a considerable amount of weight and it's really helped, it lets me track how much I move, track workouts and gives me a gentle tap to stand up and move around if I'm having a lazy day. It also sets me little monthly challenges, I walked 134.2km's the month thanks to my June challenge. I've lost just over 3 stone since having it. Definitely worth it.

Also my stain cordless. Though that was a gift. I love it though so much easier than yanking about the Henry.

@goingtotown, they are Resound iNC Quattro. I've lost hearing in the lower register which made hearing in even moderate background noise very difficult as background noise is mostly in the lower register.

The company I went with , Amplion offered a seven day free trial and a 60 days no questions asked refund.

Private psychiatric support for dd when CAMHS didn't want to know. It is why she recovered.

Chillichutney1 · 30/06/2019 16:15

Also:
Dyson cordless
Lumea- life changing!
Babyzen yoyo - in its bag it’s just a bit little bigger than a laptop bag and I’ve taken this in as cabin luggage so many times. It’s saved hours of back breaking lugging of toddlers to baggage reclaim

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/06/2019 16:21

Roses - so glad your dd benefitted. It's appalling how horribly stretched CAMHS services are.

Air conditioning in the bedroom. 32c? Not a problem! My room is an ice box in minutes!

OhTheRoses · 30/06/2019 16:29

Thank you Remus. I know they are overstretched but when wd arrived at 9.15 for a 9.30 apt and found the building locked because the staff hadn't yet drizzlex in for work my sympathy flew out of the window. Where we live a 9-5 service appears to be interpreted as staff working 9.30 to 4.30 with the answerphone regularly switched on by 4.45pm. First slot not available before 9.30; last at 3.30. There were many smacks of disorganisation and a service designed for the convenience of staff rather than the young people. Shocking!

fraxion · 30/06/2019 16:32

Agree on Raybans, I wear mine all year round and have just bought a new pair, my preference is the polarised version. All this chat about bean to cup makes me feel guilty ours is languishing in a cupboard. I stopped drinking coffee a few years ago and my husband only drinks it in the morning before going to work so we packed it up and put it away.

@Smokyrobinson what Aveda products do you use, I also have fine flat hair and have never settled on a favourite product.

OhioOhioOhio · 30/06/2019 16:34

Getting the car valeted. Makes me so happy!

Oh yeah, a divorce lawyer.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/06/2019 16:36

Roses - awful.

I'm currently using Aveda Scalp Balance, Fraxion. I like the shampoo a lot and it's lasting for ages. The conditioner feels like a rip-off though, and I was really cross to find that the packaging for the conditioner isn't recyclable, as one of the reasons I splurged was because of their eco-credentials.

In the spirit of this thread, I went shopping today:
Urban Decay eyeshadows in Smog and Mildew - love these two shades so much!
2 more Denby plates
A le Creuset spatula (have got one of these already and it's better than any other spoon/thing for stirring pans I've ever had)

Aragog · 30/06/2019 16:39

Laser eye surgery - cost almost £4000 but its been worth every single penny.

Other things I (and/or dh has spent buying for me) have spent more on (when could have had a cheaper alternative) but I love and use all the time - Mac Air, iPad Pro, Dyson hairdryer, robot vacuum cleaner.

Bigger costs that have been 'worth it' - extension to house, lots of holidays, my little but fab electric car

courderoy · 30/06/2019 16:45

I paid to have my varicose veins removed. Worth every penny.
