Why is Angela Merkel shaking?

This is not a goady thread, I feel genuinely concerned. It must be awful trying to fulfil your role with all eyes on you & cameras & then your body decides to go into full shaking mode. In the second clip I've seen, she clasps her hands about her waist as if to try & 'hold' it. I have no idea but could it be a thyroid thing or something diabetes related? I'm just curious, any ideas?

I've no idea but I'm rather concerned about her too.
Hopefully someone will come along with some medical knowledge ....

RobinHumphries · 27/06/2019 19:14

She blamed it on dehydration the first time

Didiusfalco · 27/06/2019 19:15

I guess there are a number of reasons. Is the implication people are concerned about Parkinson’s?

DonkeyHohtay · 27/06/2019 19:17

There was a doctor talking about this on Sky news this morning. She said that of course she couldn't speculate and could only talk in general terms. She said dehydration was a distinct possibility, but that two occasions in a few days is worrying. It can also be a symptom of low blood sugar, but she's not diabetic. Or side effects from some medication. Or an overactive thyroid. More serious causes could be the obvious diagnoses of Parkinson's, or less commonly, a brain tumour.

Think it's safe to say though that she'll have care from the best medics in Germany and they'll make sure she's OK.

YouWhoNeverArrived · 27/06/2019 19:18

As a doctor it doesn't look like Parkinson's at all to me.

I don't think it's helpful to speculate about what's going on. Without a full history and an examination I certainly don't have a clue.

Betaboo · 27/06/2019 21:01

I have an overactive thyroid and I would shake terribly but I don't remember a full body shaking like that. My dad has Parkinsons Disease and his tremors are very different to hers.

It looks very distressing, I hope she gets it diagnosed and treated quickly.

lljkk · 27/06/2019 21:11

I like her a lot. Germany so lucky to have had her.
I find her pics as young woman so intriguing.

I have no idea why she might be shaking but I hope it is easily remedied and that she is not seriously unwell.

orangeshoebox · 27/06/2019 21:16

it's really really hit in germany right now.
she's standing around in full business attire in the sun.
over heating/dehydration is very much possible. or she has a cold/infection that makes her feel weak.

northernlites · 27/06/2019 21:16

It was suggested to me it might be an alcoholic issue??
I don't know but that's also possible I suppose

I am in Germany and it is approximately the same temperature as the surface of the sun, it could well be over-heating and dehydration.

Kez200 · 27/06/2019 21:34

I hope its nothing serious and shes better soon. I like her a lot.

MsChookandtheelvesofFahFah · 27/06/2019 21:37

She is the most amazing woman and quite rightly deserves the title of the 'leader' of Europe. I know she has plans to step down, I hope it's nothing serious.

RelaisBlu · 27/06/2019 21:38

The week before the first incident she received an honorary degree at Harvard and gave the speech at the Graduation ceremony. She was in full view for several hours and seemed perfectly well, but it was not a hot day. I am also a great admirer of hers so was watching her closely

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 27/06/2019 21:41

I had shaking like that once- it was a combination of very hot weather and extreme stress. I do hope she is okay, her job must really take its toll.

AnnaMagnani · 27/06/2019 21:51

As someone prone to low blood pressure I have always wondered how these heads of state manage events which involve a lot of standing about on hot days.

I keel over after about 20 minutes if I don't have a biscuit and I never ever stand. Ever.

DH has lots of experience of me being utterly ridiculous when I'm too hot and I have been known to just lie on the floor at work if I start to feel bad.

So 'being dehydrated' sounds likely to me. I'd never manage Trooping of the Colour without falling over.

I am sure you have valid medical reasons, it must be a nightmare
but it made me think of screaming in the Sistine Chapel.

Clutterbugsmum · 27/06/2019 22:05

I don't know, but really hope she takes some time away from the public eye to get better if it is dehydration or and infection.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 27/06/2019 22:08

It is incredibly hot here in Deutschland. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s dehydration. Poor Angie! I’m not a huge CDU/CSU fan but I like her.

Juells · 27/06/2019 22:09

My mother had a complete collapse when she went to NY one summer, she missed two weeks of her holiday. Shaking and passed out from the heat.

It could be stress catching up on her. It could be a million and one things. Hopefully nothing serious and she recovers soon.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/06/2019 22:18

I hadn’t seen the footage, so googled. I am worried about her now. That doesn’t look like Parkinson’s tremor to me, she looks more like someone who is trying extremely hard to hold it together but feeling really unwell. I didn’t realise heat could cause this, but she looks very stressed and uncomfortable. Maybe she is in pain ?
