Bit boring I know.But just that really ,how often do you bleach loo?.I do every night, and sometimes during day as well. Also use it for cleaning sinks and soaking items .My DS thinks my use is a bit excessive .and could be harming the enviroment .Any thoughts?

I alway's use bleach for toilet, sinks etc

gamerchick · 26/06/2019 17:37

Only when there is mega illness in the house. It's not necessary any other time.

BullBullBull · 26/06/2019 17:37

I drive my car far more than I use bleach and that’s worse for the environment. I bet those that are horrified do too or use another mode of transport

I think you missed the point about using eco friendly cleaners. It's not necessarily about the wider environment - it's the health effect it has on your family.

The fumes from them were proven recently to be as bad as living next to a main road.

As an aside - the argument of 'you don't do this so don't preach about that' is pretty daft. Anyone doing anything is a good thing. If we all went round not giving a shit about anything cos we took a flight once a year, nothing would ever change.

teenmum18 · 26/06/2019 18:00

I only use thick bleach on the toilet every night.

I go through a lot of thin bleach though. I wash up with it. Soak whites ( especially the white sock or anything stained. I washed the floors with it too (wooden and tiled floors). Clean the kids outside toys with it. And I always chuck hot bleachy water outside my back door. Cats piss on the patio all the time and it stinks! Love bleach.

AdoreTheBeach · 26/06/2019 18:33

I do hope that soon we can take our own glass bottles for bleach fill up. Hate the waste of plastic

smashamasha · 26/06/2019 18:37

@teenmum18

What do you do in your toilet which requires bleaching daily?!

bushtailadventures · 26/06/2019 18:45

My nan used bleach like it was going out of fashion, put me right off it. I use Harpic limescale in the loos occasionally, usually white vinegar in a spray bottle though. My hard floors are cleaned with white vinegar in hot water too, judging by the state of the water it cleans them well, nd it doesn't aggravate my asthma, which is a bonus.

INeedNewShoes · 26/06/2019 18:55

Surely teenmum has to be joking?

YesQueen · 26/06/2019 19:08

I only use bleach for mould really on tiles/sealant
Toilets get wiped with hot soapy water or whatever cleaning spray I have, and toilet cleaner maybe a couple of times a week. I'm not planning on licking the toilet seat or bowl anytime soon so it doesn't need to be sterilised

formerbabe · 26/06/2019 19:16

In both toilets once a day.

Occasionally in kitchen sink.

A capful in with my white laundry

Occasionally a drop added to my sponge when I'm cleaning kitchen surfaces.

chemenger · 26/06/2019 19:22

I don’t use bleach at all. I don’t touch the inside of my toilet so I don’t worry if it isn’t sterile. I hate the smell of bleach.

theneverendinglaundry · 26/06/2019 19:25

The only time I've used bleach recently is when we had a very bad house guest who made my toilets vile 🤢 but otherwise I never ever use it.

cptartapp · 26/06/2019 19:28

Three or four times a week down the loo. Cheap and effective.

AquaPris · 26/06/2019 19:54

In the loo most days (when we have bleach which I usually forget to buy)

teenmum18 · 26/06/2019 20:06

@INeedNewShoes why would it be a joke

@smashamasha we're a family of seven. It definitely needs doing everyday.

00100001 · 26/06/2019 20:08

@teenmum18

You do the washing up with bleach?? Surely not... Confused

MaxNormal · 26/06/2019 20:09

God teenmum that sounds actually scary!

stillworkingitout · 26/06/2019 20:11

Yes, definitely overkill. Once a week at most!

Laurajjj · 26/06/2019 20:15

Every other day I'll bleach the toilet.

On one hand I think everyday/multiple times is excessive, and on the other hand I think only once a week is a bit grim.

RoundingError · 26/06/2019 20:18

I bought bleach for the first time in years recently, as I had repeated maggot infestations in my outdoor food waste bin and hot soapy water cleaned it but didn’t prevent them being there again the next week. So I used bleach. Haven’t had a problem since.

I’m now wondering what on earth to do with the rest of it. Method and Harpic do nicely for everything else.

Babdoc · 26/06/2019 20:22

Are you lot eating meals out of your loos or something?! Why on earth are you sticking so much toxic bleach down them? I don’t care what germs are living in my lavatory pan - they don’t affect me and they’re far less harmful than bleach fumes filling the house. I wipe the seat with a damp cloth and clean the loo with a lavvy brush as required.
The only use I’ve ever found for bleach was getting black mildew off shower sealant once, a few years ago.
There is a worrying level of exposure to toxic organic chemicals in houses these days, not only from cleaning products but also scented candles and diffusers, paints and plastics.
We should all be trying to reduce these chemicals around our children and ourselves.

smashamasha · 26/06/2019 20:23

@teenmum18

Even if you were a family of 46 you still don't need that much bleach.

teenmum18 · 26/06/2019 21:03

I don't understand how people are not bleaching their toilet everyday 🤮 this is why I squat at other peoples houses it's filthy.

teenmum18 · 26/06/2019 21:06

@00100001 yep always have.
