Looking for ideas for next year. Kids will be 5 and 8, if that makes a difference. What’s the best holiday you’ve been on, and what made it great?

Ideas other than Disney would be welcomed - we’re hoping to go in a few years time Smile

We did a Eurocamp in the south of France when ours were 10, 4 and 4. We loved it and are off to s different site in spain this year.

Notonaschoolnight · 22/06/2019 19:37

Camp bestival hands down went 4 consecutive years

ValleyoftheHorses · 22/06/2019 19:39

Lapland with Canterbury travel. It was magical, the snow, the log cabin with one massive bed for all of us, the elves and we found Santa!

Kyriesmum1 · 22/06/2019 19:41

We did turkey the week before the high season, had two pools and the beach to ourselves!!

Eminybob · 22/06/2019 19:41

We liked menorca.
The hotel was perfect - all inclusive which is great for fussy eaters, but in an apartment so a bit more space. Fab splash pool with slides etc.
Interesting beaches rather than just sandy stretches, kid friendly restaurants with mega bouncy castles.

crosser62 · 22/06/2019 19:42

Tenerife last year with water park tickets, it was absolutely fantastic and the kids had an absolute ball.
Great weather, shortish flight, so, so good.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 22/06/2019 19:42

Crete 2 weeks ago.So good that I booked the same hotel for next year whilst laid by the pool!

Gizlotsmum · 22/06/2019 19:44

Lapland for Christmas. So good we want to go back at another time of year.

motortroll · 22/06/2019 19:46

Simple caravan holiday in the new forest on a really basic site for a long weekend.

motortroll · 22/06/2019 19:47

Oh we also loved a site called lady's mile in dawlish...powderham castle was our fave attraction

Bunnybigears · 22/06/2019 19:50

Hired a 1970s VW camper for a week and travelled around the Kielder area a different campsite each night. I think the kids were actually 5 and 8 at the time. They absolutely loved it and despite what I anticipated DH and I didnt find it stressful at all.

onemorecakeplease · 22/06/2019 19:55

Gran Canaria with 13 family and friends was lovely - we had a two bed villa but it was part of hotel and all inclusive. Was nice to have someone else to watch them and play with them after dinner!

Majorca all inclusive was okay, suite was a bit small tho and we could have done with more room.

Spain all in one bedroom - holiday from hell

Lanzarote a two bed owners direct villa with a pool was really lovely and we enjoyed eating out. Kids were much younger tho and took naps. That was good!

We are going to France this year in a gite with pool and some family
I'll let you know!

Also October probably canaries again with mil and sil/bil.

So I think you need space and a babysitter!

timeforawine · 22/06/2019 19:55

Maybe St Lucia last year, Coconut Bay resort, has a small waterpark.
Or Mexico this year, Occidental Xcaret with unlimited access to Xcaret park next door, so much to do for kids your age, ours was too little for a lot of it but still loved it.

timeforawine · 22/06/2019 19:58

Tui family life bahia feliz gran canaria was brilliant for families, great kids clubs, plenty of nice food plus a gorgeous island if you hired a car and got out

ChicCroissant · 22/06/2019 19:58

Ah, you've discounted my favourite already! So I'll say Paris and/or London (we did combine the two one year). We don't do beach holidays so it is usually a city break for us with sightseeing.

chipscheesegravy · 22/06/2019 19:59

I've been lucky and travelled a lot but one of my favourite holidays as a child was in a cottage in Cornwall. I absolutely loved it and have always remembered how much fun it was. Obviously weather is a risk though!

CherryPavlova · 22/06/2019 19:59

At that age something for everyone. European centre par s and Neilsons

CherryPavlova · 22/06/2019 20:00

Or Lake District

Pipandmum · 22/06/2019 20:02

Went to Australia for a month. Kids were really too young (20 months and three) but that’s when we could go. It was just great to have my husband around for a whole month. I think that’s what made it great. We moved around alot and stayed in 9 different places. Loved it.
It’s funny what the kids remember though. I took my daughter to NY at Christmas when she was about 8. We saw the Rockettes Christmas show at Radio City, took a rickshaw ride from uptown thru Times Sq at night, but what does she think was the highlight of that trip? Making a gingerbread house with the friend we stayed with.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 22/06/2019 20:05

Australia, but that was a trip of a lifetime thing.

me and DS interrailed round Europe last summer and it was hands-down the best holiday ever, we totally loved it.

HairyToity · 22/06/2019 20:11

Lots. Although we have only had UK holidays with the kids. I think my favourite was a week spent at Cwmiar Farm Holidays. Plan to return next year.

A short break we really enjoyed was a NT cottage at Plas yn Rhiw. It was just very relaxed and lovely.

babasaclover · 22/06/2019 20:27

@onemorecakeplease where did you stay in Gran Canaria please? Hard to find 2 bedroom places

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 22/06/2019 20:30

Agree with @ValleyoftheHorses - Lapland with Canterbury Travel as it's just so magical and out of this world special.

RoadFrontage · 22/06/2019 20:36

Lake Garda. Absolutely beautiful scenery, lovely atmosphere (touristy and family orientated without being mini club hell), good food, lots of ice cream.

Also easy access to Venice and Verona for days out.

Emmapeeler · 22/06/2019 20:42

My favourite holiday is a cottage in a seaside village in Pembrokeshire which we go to every year but following for ideas!
