What time does you 11yr old DD go to bed? POLL please

I think mine should get ready to go to bed at 8.30 and be asleep by 9, ready to get up a 7am. DD thinks it's too early and wants to go to bed at 9.30. If she sprung out of bed at 7 am after going to bed at 9.30 I wouldn't mind, but I often have to go in and wake her up. I want her to get into good habits before starting secondary school.

Can you provide me with some ammo so I can show her in the morning?

What time does your DD go to bed. (thanks!)

Well, the 13yo here goes to bed at 8, lights out at 8.30. The 15yo goes to bed at 8.30, lights out at 9.

My 11 year old DS is usually in bed by 8 because he still likes a bedtime story - and I like reading it - but don't want to read it any later. He is usually asleep by 8.45/9 and wakes up himself between 6 and 6.30. He has Scouts one night which doesn't end until 9 so he is later to bed that night, and sports another night which ends at 8ish.

Fanjango · 18/06/2019 21:38

My 12 year old 10pm. Gets up at 7. In fact her sister is 14 and does the same. I know it seems late but she doesn't sleep well anyway (asd).

My almost 12 yo is usually upstairs for 8.30pm, lights out by 9pm.
But if she's tired I'll send her up anywhere from 7pm and she's happy to chill and read.
And weekends are flexible.

Curlyshabtree · 18/06/2019 21:40

Anywhere between 7:30 and 9:30 depending on levels of tiredness and what’s going on.

Shelbybear · 18/06/2019 21:42

I think 9.30 is fine at her age. Maybe 9am school nights if she's tiered in the morning.

underneaththeash · 18/06/2019 21:42

Mine goes up at 8.30, lights off at 9.30. We’re up at 7am too.

SunshineSpring · 18/06/2019 21:48

Well, my 8 yr old is pushing 8.30 before he's sleeping, and awake (naturally) by about 6.30.
The just turned 10 yr old is usually asleep by 9.15, and awake 6.45. So part of it depends on if they naturally sit at the lower, middle or upper end of average sleep for their age.

MegBusset · 18/06/2019 21:48

12yo and 10yo go upstairs about 8.30, lights out by 9.30 on a school night, 10 at the weekend. Although they are still up now having stayed up to watch the leadership debate.

10yo has to be dragged out of bed in the morning regardless how early he goes to bed. 12yo always wakes up at sparrowfart "because sleep's boring"

mrsm43s · 18/06/2019 21:49

In year 6, 8.30. Once secondary school started it moved to 9, mostly to accommodate the extra homework.

Now 13/14 and go at 9.30 weekdays, but 10/10.30 weekends.

Sevo7 · 18/06/2019 21:52

My 10 year old used to be 9.30pm but I’ve recently changed it to 9pm as he needs to be up half an hour earlier for breakfast club. Apparently I’m the meanest mother in the world for doing this and has told me he expects a 10pm bedtime once he’s in year 6 Hmm

whiteroseredrose · 18/06/2019 21:58

When my DC first started secondary school they went to bed about 9.00 to 9.30. If they were tired in the morning I'd suggest going to bed earlier.

Hadenoughofitall441 · 18/06/2019 23:24

DS 11 goes to bed at 9, he don’t go to sleep till about 9.30, but he has ASD so routine is key. At the weekends he goes at 10.30.

BurnedToast · 18/06/2019 23:45

9-9.30

emilyhamptoncakeslice · 18/06/2019 23:53

10pm sorry! I think it's a bit late tbh but if goes up earlier she can't sleep and ends up awake longer.

TheClitterati · 18/06/2019 23:57

Dd is 11 and has lights out at 9. She likes to stay up later sometimes but then struggles in the morning.

Mind you tonight she took herself off to read at 7:30. Long May it last.

PinkGinFreak · 18/06/2019 23:57

Son is 11. I wake him at 7.30am, he gets up at 7.45am.
He goes upstairs for a shower at 9.30pm, in bed by 10. I'd rather he was in bed for 9.30 but he's a bit resistant!

tomboytown · 19/06/2019 00:14

10
Gets up at 8
He’s always needed less sleep than the norm

StinkyWizleteets · 19/06/2019 00:27

My 9 year old goes to bed at half 8 but can stay up reading or whatever (no screens) until she’s tired. Nothing worse than lying awake unable to sleep and being told off for it. As for trouble getting up in the morning, well that’s just preparing for the teenage years.

SarfE4sticated · 21/06/2019 08:11

Thanks everyone- we have agreed on lights out at 9pm Cake

My DS is 5 and realistically it's lights out by 8.30 and asleep by 9... (and he's awake by 6.30) - I don't think there's any chance he'll be going to bed this early when he's 11!

BarkandCheese · 21/06/2019 08:19

Mine heads up to her room between 8pm and 9pm, but it’s up to her when she goes to sleep. She’s often awake and reading after 10pm (no screens allowed in her room though) but it doesn’t seem to impact on her ability to get up in the morning so I leave her to it.

Mayday19 · 21/06/2019 08:23

9.30 for mine, and I’m apparently sending him earlier than any other mother. I know that’s not a lie as I can see posts popping up on his phone late on.
Can’t believe that a poster sends a 12 year old to her room at 7! Mine is often still out playing football at that time. Sounds like something a parent would do to get a break, rather than something good for a child. It’s nice to spend some time as a family in the evening.

User7777 · 21/06/2019 08:34

My 12yo goes to bed at 10 ish. But I learnt very early on that he did not actually need sleep. Gets up at 7 ish, leaves the house at 8.

SarahBeeney · 21/06/2019 08:35

My 11yr old is supposed to have lights off at 9pm. It varies between 9-9:30pm but if she's knackered I try and get her to bed earlier.

She is almost always awake naturally by 7 no matter what time she goes to bed.
