What time does you 11yr old DD go to bed? POLL please

I think mine should get ready to go to bed at 8.30 and be asleep by 9, ready to get up a 7am. DD thinks it's too early and wants to go to bed at 9.30. If she sprung out of bed at 7 am after going to bed at 9.30 I wouldn't mind, but I often have to go in and wake her up. I want her to get into good habits before starting secondary school.

Can you provide me with some ammo so I can show her in the morning?

What time does your DD go to bed. (thanks!)

DD started Secondary just being 11 and had to have light out by 8.30pm but she has to get up at 6.30am now. She is nearly 12 now and it has moved to 9pm but that’s also due to clubs being later and the need of a daily shower in the evening.

@mejon hahahahah I thought I had posted twice when I read your reply Grin

My DS is 11 and goes to bed at 9. I'd also let him stay up later if he got up with no problems on a morning, but he's whiny about it so 9pm it is!

BrieAndChilli · 21/06/2019 12:38

my year 6 - 10 year old who is 11 next month goes up to bed at 8.30pm, shes supposed to go to sleep but I know she stays up for a little bit reading/drawing in bed!
DS1 who is in year 7 and is 12 goes up at 9pm

Jjou · 21/06/2019 13:40

DD is 11 and gets ready and goes up to bed at 10 p.m. She reads for a bit then goes to sleep and I turn her reading light out when I go up. I think it's probably a bit too late, but she's never needed a lot of sleep and used to be up every day at 5.30 a.m. when she was younger, now she'll sleep until 7 a.m. or so. I can put her in her room earlier but can't force her to sleep.

Zebedee88 · 21/06/2019 13:42

Our 10 and 11 years olds have a story and then we leave them for a bit, but lights out are at 9pm or just before.

BearSoFair · 21/06/2019 15:52

Up to bed at 9 but can read until 9:30 if she wants to. Up at 7:15, I very rarely have to wake her, she usually wakes up naturally around 7.

SirVixofVixHall · 21/06/2019 15:54

My dd , who recently turned 12, goes to bed at 8, or at least that is the aim. Lights out at 8.30. Sometimes it is later, but she is much more cheerful if she is asleep at this sort of time.

Riddleofthesands · 21/06/2019 16:01

12 year old, lights out at 8.30 pm up at 7 am, it drifts to 9 pm sometimes (curtain calls) but nothing after 9 pm. She definitely needs this amount of sleep, does a lot of sport.

mrsfeatherbottom · 21/06/2019 16:06

We aim for in bed at 8:30 with a view to being asleep by 9.

mama1980 · 21/06/2019 18:52

9.30pm but no school the next day

DeadDoorpost · 21/06/2019 18:55

As an 11 yr old I was in bed by 8pm. 9pm once I hit yr 9 at school. 10pm or whatever once I was 16 and finished with GCSEs.

Some years I had to get up at 7, others 5, others 6 for extra curricular activities. But siblings were the same whether they did the same as me or not.

InterestingShipNames · 21/06/2019 18:58

School night with no clubs - aim for lights out at 8.00, but I’m not strict about it as long as she’s quietly in her room.

But sometimes her dance classes end later, and then she’s ok any time up to about 8.30. After that there are tears over nothing and she’s still asleep at 7.30am, which is getting up time.

She does need an hour or so to unwind before she can sleep, though. It’s just how she is, so that’s why she has quite an early bedtime.

Whathappenedtothelego · 21/06/2019 19:02

My 11 year old does a few after school activities that finish at 9, then has to get home and ready for bed - so goes to bed later than 9.30 on those days.

On other days, lights out at ten to nine, and is usually reading in bed by about 8.30.

CMOTDibbler · 21/06/2019 19:03

My 13 yo goes to bed at 8.30 on school nights - he needs his sleep!

noodlenosefraggle · 21/06/2019 19:09

Oh dear! My 11 year old is bed by 8, lights out at 8.30. That's recently changed. Before that, he went to bed earlier! But he's a real early bird and will be up at 6-6.30, no matter what time he goes to bed, so 8.30 suits him fine. He has always woken up early. If I had £1 for everyone who told me to put him to bed later and he'd wake up later, I'd have enough to book myself into a luxury hotel for a week and catch up on all the lie in's I've missed out on over the past 11 years Grin

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 21/06/2019 19:11

DD 11, 12 in August goes to bed around 9 for sleep at 9.30.

No real time limit on a Friday or Saturday but not ridiculously late.

noodlenosefraggle · 21/06/2019 19:12

He just gets up, makes himself some toast and watches telly now until 7 though, so its fine!

ncqtime · 21/06/2019 19:14

Mine's exactly the same as yours OP. She gets a snappiness to her, a faintly bloodshot eye look and the rest if she doesn't stick to this regularly enough

Skyejuly · 21/06/2019 19:14

9-9.30

sansou · 21/06/2019 19:26

On school nights,
DD12 self regulates between 8:30 and 9:30 pm
DS15 self regulates between 9:30 and 10 pm
All of us get up at 6:30 without too much stress and out the door at 7am ish.

OkPedro · 21/06/2019 19:33

My dd will be 11 in October she goes up at 9.10pm lights out at 9.30. She wakes at 8
I feel she should go to bed earlier but she can’t settle if it’s before 9pm.
I didn’t realise children in the uk start secondary school so young! My dd will be 13 in the September starting secondary

Toodeloo · 21/06/2019 20:25

Whenever she wants to... in her room for 8.30/9 and then it’s up to her. She doesn’t abuse the freedom and is generally asleep by 10ish or earlier if tired.

Burpsandrustles · 21/06/2019 20:33

10pm. Doesn't have set bed time. The roughly told to go up... At 9 ish.
