I think mine should get ready to go to bed at 8.30 and be asleep by 9, ready to get up a 7am. DD thinks it's too early and wants to go to bed at 9.30. If she sprung out of bed at 7 am after going to bed at 9.30 I wouldn't mind, but I often have to go in and wake her up. I want her to get into good habits before starting secondary school.

Can you provide me with some ammo so I can show her in the morning?

What time does your DD go to bed. (thanks!)

@noodlenosefraggle don't worry, both mine are the same - we're ridiculously early to early.

My 11 year old Y6 goes to sleep at about 7.30 max, up at 6. Quite easily goes to sleep earlier than that, as well!

I have the same kind of body clock, and need a lot of sleep, so I guess I can't blame them.

They mostly do homework in the morning before breakfast, which actually is quite nice as they're not frazzled. I'm hoping she'll lengthen out her evenings a bit once at secondary, but she can definitely manage short-term with later nights - she just needs to catch up.

About 10pm. Often not asleep until 10:30(ish).
A little earlier most nights in winter.
Awake about 7:45am on a school day.
Neither me nor any of my kids are big sleepers.

My 11 year old (not sure why you have specified DD) goes up at 8:30, lights off at 9-9:15. Up between 7-7:15, wakes up on his own accord. He stays up later on a Saturday night if we don't have to be up the next day, but only half an hour later.

Dd is 12 (y7) I take her phone away between 8 and 8:30 sometimes she is already asleep, 9pm is hard celing during the week. DS (15) is usually gone by 9:30. Both need waking at 6:15.

Chipsahoy · 21/06/2019 20:39

Mine loves his sleep, and is a nightmare to wake. Most school nights he is in bed by 8.30 and lights out at 9. Tonight he's just finished playing on his ps4 and gone to put pjs on. He will read of watch a show and be asleep by 9.30pm.

orangeshoebox · 21/06/2019 20:41

schoolnight: bed at 9 lights out at 9:30 (but often asleep as soon as in bed)
weekend 10pm

WindsweptEgret · 21/06/2019 20:45

At that age it was go get ready for bed at 8.30 but then reading until lights out at 9.30. We are up at 6.30 on school days so I can make sure he is awake and has breakfast before I need to leave for work, though he doesn't need to leave until 8.30.

TanMateix · 21/06/2019 20:49

To bed at 9pm but he couldn’t fall asleep at least until 10:30. He also was usually found already in uniform and having breakfast by 6am. No point in fighting it, Some kids need less sleep.

Disfordarkchocolate · 21/06/2019 20:49

By 10 pm, he gets up easily enough though and doesn't have far to walk to school.

kerkyra · 21/06/2019 20:53

My 11yr old has lights out at 9 too,up at 7.30.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 21/06/2019 20:54

My almost 11 year old goes up around 9 and is usually asleep within minutes. Sometimes a bit later at the weekends, but not much as he gets a bit tired tired and grumpy. If he's had a late night he's pretty good at making sure he gets an earlier night the following night.

Almost school holidays here, so I expect it'll be a bit later as it's so light outside till late (in Scotland).

Pearlfish · 21/06/2019 20:56

On a school night, my 11yo goes upstairs around 8, gets into bed around 8.30 and reads to herself until around 9.

MeMeMeYou · 21/06/2019 21:00

Mine doesn’t need much sleep and it something of an insomniac. Lights off 9.45 but often awake anytime until 11. Might change when high school starts as she’ll have a longer journey and more walking and earlier start. Currently she has it easy!

MrsJBaptiste · 21/06/2019 21:04

During the week, DS (12) is upstairs at 9pm and asleep by 9.30.

At the weekends, whenever he's ready for bed so usually 11-11.30ish.

OkPedro · 22/06/2019 01:01

jean Do your children go to bed that early during school holidays/weekends? Also do they not have clubs or extra curricular things during the week? I miss the days my dc were in bed at 7.30..

JeanMichelBisquiat · 22/06/2019 06:36

@OkPedro I've noticed they are starting to be able to go a bit later in the hols - I'd love for it to shift a bit.

Activities - we don't have any standard ones that keep us out past about 6.30, so on those nights they're both in bed about 7.30 - but certainly the older one has managed residentials, with much later bedtimes, fine with catch-up sleep afterwards, so we don't let what seems to be a naturally early rhythm get in the way of doing stuff....we just have to allow time for respite in between!

JeanMichelBisquiat · 22/06/2019 06:37

By the way, it does at least mean we can get out of the house really nice and early to visit places that get busy later on in the day Grin

reluctantbrit · 22/06/2019 20:38

@OkPedro

DD has to go up early on most Saturdays but as her Friday club means dinner is after 8pm she doesn’t stay up a lot longer. Saturday evenings depend, we may go out for dinner or to the cinema and it is nice not having a tired child anymore. She then sleeps late on
Sunday. Other nights she goes up as usual.

ForeignBodies · 22/06/2019 20:42

Mine goes up to bed at 9pm and lights out by 9.30pm. She goes to sleep within minutes, though, and gets up no problem at 7.30am, so that’s 10 hours and that seems fine.
