How often do you see the GP?

Just a general question - how often on average do you go?
I find myself going once or twice in a month and now conscious that I go too much!

Basically never I find they're pretty useless and uninterested. Went today out of desperation over pelvic girdle pain as midwife advised to to see about pain relief while I wait for physio and he obviously wasn't listening and ignored everything I said then told me it's too early for PGP I won't get that until 35+ weeks

SpaceCadet4000 · 17/06/2019 18:27

I haven't been in 2 years, and that was because I needed vaccination for immigrating to the USA. I actually need to go again soon and get a smear test and cholesterol test.

bigbluebus · 17/06/2019 18:30

About 3 times in the last 5 years - and I'm mid 50's. Just as well really as I believe it is almost impossible to get an appointment!

SimonJT · 17/06/2019 18:32

Every four weeks as my diabetes is being a bit of a nightmare.

yearinyearout · 17/06/2019 18:34

Couple of times a year maybe? I only ever bother if I'm genuinely worried for my health, I'd never go for minor ailments or things I can treat with advice/over the counter drugs.

Millie2013 · 17/06/2019 18:35

I’m really not keen on visiting the GP, thankfully I’m fairly healthy
I’ve been twice in the past couple of years, once for a tick bite that needed a month worth of AB, the other visit was for a head to toe rash that turned out to be Parvovirus
On the rare occasions I am ill, I tend to get....quirky illnesses....😂

1forAll74 · 17/06/2019 18:36

I am 70 now, and last time I went to a GP, was about 28 years ago. I did register with a new health centre when I moved house 15 years ago, but never needed to go there for anything as yet.

midgeland · 17/06/2019 18:37

Last year for a smear test. Then about 6 years before that I went in for a problem with my wrist; unfortunately the GP at the time mistakenly thought I'd gone in to receive a patronising lecture about my contraceptive choices and my wrist still hurts.

Geekster1963 · 17/06/2019 18:37

I’ve seen a GP once this year and the practice nurse 8 times and a couple of hospital outpatient appointments. So quite a lot and all for the same condition that though minor is a right pain. The only month I haven’t been this year is in April.

Rickandportly · 17/06/2019 18:43

Only twice since I was 16, that was for antibiotics for horrific throat infection and once for a smear when I was 34. I’m 40 now.

My dd who is 5 has only seen a GP once when she was 9months for a chest infection.

DD 16 hasn’t seen a GP since about 6 - but broke arm once at school so went to a&e then.

My mum is 84 and hasn’t been in 20 odd years.

I’m a nurse btw 😂😂

StandardPoodle · 17/06/2019 18:49

Twice in the last 3 years.
I do attend the well women check done by a practice nurse which is every 3 or so years.

starzig · 17/06/2019 18:56

Hahaha. I work full time, no kids, no disabilities. You really think a doctor would even waste his time on me? BF tried to get an appointment as he thought he had shingles. Got deferred to the nurse instead who didn't even know you could get shingles twice.

blibblibs · 17/06/2019 19:01

We registered with the GP 5 years ago, one DC has never been and the other has been twice. I've been for a coil change and a smear and DH has been once to have a mole looked at.
We are very lucky to have visited so infrequently.

spiderlight · 17/06/2019 19:08

Last time I went was about five years ago. I have multiple chronic conditions but every GP I've seen has been so clueless about them that unless something is literally hanging off, I tend to just soldier on until my next hospital appointment.

netflixlove · 17/06/2019 19:11

Maybe 10 times a year at least? I'm prone to ear infections and also suffer from MH problems so have to be seen regularly for weigh ins (I have anorexia) & medication changes.

Mummyme87 · 17/06/2019 19:19

not seen GP for myself for years. Saw the nurse for 6week postnatal check 14months a go, had smear test and a contraceptive pill review since but that’s it. Just don’t have anything that needs a GP

BuildBuildings · 17/06/2019 19:20

Quite often right now and I'm a bit self concious too! But most of the time it's for long term conditions I have. I don't often go if I'm feeling poorly such as a cold etc. As I'm often going for long term monitoring etc.
Probably GP once a month or maybe every 3 weeks. Then blood tests similar on average. Plus some hospital out patient appointments / treatments.

I think it's ok to use it as you need it but be aware of using appointments responsibly. Some people are more unwell than others.

OhTheRoses · 17/06/2019 19:21

This year - twice. Once for a repeat prescription and once for sleeping pills and repeat again. Next repeat I'll put in a reception request and hopefully not waste half an hour sorting it out or going back because it either hasn't been done or they say they didn't receive it.

When dd had mh problems a few years ago about fortnightly with her. For prescriptions, reviews, and a disheartening game called CAMHS Chase.

MattMagnolia · 17/06/2019 19:21

When I was a child we had a family doctor who knew us all and treated every illness and accident.
I’ve only seen the doctor I’m registered with once in sixteen years and seen others about six times over the same period.

amusedbush · 17/06/2019 19:24

Rarely. I go to the family planning clinic once every three months for my contraceptive injection but I see my GP maybe once every three years.

amusedbush · 17/06/2019 19:25

I should say though, my GP is brilliant about leaving a script at reception if I phone up and chat to her. DH can then pick it up and I'll take it to the pharmacy with no need for an actual appointment.

puppymouse · 17/06/2019 19:27

39 and rarely for me. But between DD and I we probably go two or three times a year. Our surgery are amazing and have never turned us away.

SheldonSaysSo · 17/06/2019 19:27

It varies but can be anything from once a month to 4 times in a month (not including two weekly blood tests)

Soola · 17/06/2019 19:31

I go years without seeing a GP. At one time I went a decade without being registered at a surgery.
I hate going to the doctors and only do if it’s life threatening.

eurochick · 17/06/2019 19:33

Rarely. Since I had a baby five years ago I think I've been twice for breast lumps (v lumpy boobs and strong family history of breast cancer), once for a dodgy mole and for smear tests when called. I hate going and avoid it if I can self treat or buy something from the pharmacy instead.
