Things that disappeared, without you realising?

What things have disappeared in society, and you did not notice until much later?
So when I was young in every shopping street you would see old women wearing coloured polyester macs and headscarves. And then one day I suddenly realised that I had not seen a woman wearing this kind of clothing for a long time.
The same with plastic rainhoods. You used to see these for sale in newsagents, and elderly women would wear them when caught unaware by the rain. Again disappeared.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 09/06/2019 08:47

Athena was great. Loved those clacky poster books. Find the poster number then find it’s sold out. Where do teens buy posters now?

NicoAndTheNiners · 09/06/2019 08:50

Reflective bands safety pinned on kids school coats.

BarbaraofSevillle · 09/06/2019 08:50

From the same era as the Hare Krishnas, the Socialist Worker magazine.

There always used to be someone in the city centre shouting for people to buy it.

ByAllMeansMoveAtAGlacialPace · 09/06/2019 08:51

There were no sugar puffs at Sainsbury's yesterday!

Orderly queues at bus stops

Still happens in my home town. I was horrified when I went to London and was close to starting an arguement and then realised I was in the minority and it must be culturally acceptable!

MamaRaisingBoys · 09/06/2019 08:52

Cereals with toys in

BarbaraofSevillle · 09/06/2019 08:52

Oh, google tells me that SW still exists, but I still don't remember seeing anyone selling it for years.

A scramble for coppers when a bride was leaving the house to get married

I saw this recently for the first time while visiting my ILs (they're in the NE). MIL was amazed I'd never heard of it before.

SkydivingKittyCat · 09/06/2019 08:56

*Don think they were ever in walkers crisps.

Smiths salt n shake though...

Just googled seems walkers bought them out you can still get them though*

The ones in Walkers were prizes. Top prize possibly a fiver in a little blue pack? Most of the time it was a free packet of crisps

Pharlapwasthebest · 09/06/2019 08:57

A scramble for coppers when a bride was leaving the house to get married

I've never heard of this either and I had to read it twice before I realised it didn't refer to phoning the police.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 09/06/2019 09:03

And I hadnt realised till I read it here that I hadnt seen anyone selling the Socialist Worker in the street for a long time. They always used to be in the City Centre on a Saturday shouting socialist woooorrrker.
