I never liked him. Years ago when he was very popular, probably the most popular person on the telly my friend thought he was wonderful and was in the audience for one of his shows.

When it was shown on the telly I watched it die the sake of my friend and I had a premonition come over me. As I watched him, the sound disappeared and I couldn’t hear him speaking or the audience laughing and it seemed to go in slow motion and I was very drawn to his face which instead of him laughing and smiling, contorted into the most evil glare right at me as if he was actually looking at me and for a moment he looked like the devil.

Then the tv went back to normal and I switched it off. Since then I always thought there was something very sinister about him and cannot stand to watch him or hear him talk.

friedbeansandcheese · 08/06/2019 22:56

Both are vile.

blameitonmyjuice · 08/06/2019 23:01

I was saying that earlier to my mum , something about him makes me feel very uncomfortable . I think he’s just playing the victim . It’s a character .

Frownette · 09/06/2019 00:45

It isn't easy viewing, is it

Fuckedoffat48b · 09/06/2019 08:59

Soola seriously? Or are you mocking mental health problems?

OldUnit · 09/06/2019 09:20

Why is what @Soola said 'mocking mental health problems'?

She had a feeling about a guy...his own mental health problems were probably unknown at that stage she was talking about? Strike it Lucky days?

How have we got to the point where we're so quick to jump on each other over nothing!?!

I say this as someone with MH problems. Nothing Soola said offended ME....but I'm not one of the permanently offended. Hmm

Michael though, it's very sad to have seen the deterioration of his mental health across the years, much like Gazza. I thought he was brilliant in his heyday, but maybe like the 'child star' phenomenon, too much, too soon.
Fame has shown to be toxic for many.

Honestly, I don't think he knows who he is.

Soola · 09/06/2019 10:18

@Fuckedoffat48b

What on earth do you mean?

I had a very uneasy feeling about him and a very odd incident when I saw him on the telly.

I can’t explain why this happened, it certainly wasn’t something I wanted to happen nor does it regularly occur.

I’m not one to believe in ‘weird’ happenings and always think there must be a logical explanation but can only describe the revulsion I felt and still feel about Michael Barrymore.

I’m a confident, bolshy person but I know if I met Barrymore I wouldn’t be scared of him! Ridiculous as that sounds it is my gut feeling.

If there is such a thing as reincarnation then perhaps I knew him previously as I can’t think of any reason why I should feel this utter dread of the man and feel that he is extremely sinister.

There are plenty of entertainers/comedians out there who I don’t find funny but do not have this awful feeling about them.

Soola · 09/06/2019 10:18

@OldUnit

Thank you.

Soola · 09/06/2019 10:19

Wouldn’t be scared means would be scared ^

FabulouslyFab · 09/06/2019 10:22

I never liked the way he used old people to get a laugh. I watched it but it didn’t make me think any differently about him.

RiversDisguise · 09/06/2019 10:24

Nothing could possess me to watch either of those absolute bellends.

In fairness to Morgan, though, I don't think he ever held a.party where a young man ended up raped and dead.

RiversDisguise · 09/06/2019 10:26

And I hate you, OP, for making me be fair to Piers Morgan. I don't want to be fair to him. I want to sit him in a wheelbarrow and fling cowpats at him then send him rolling into a volcano full of pirahnas... or something... haven't threshed out all the deets yet.

BastardGoDarkly · 09/06/2019 11:03

😂

ForalltheSaints · 09/06/2019 11:20

Sounds like it was one I am glad I did not watch. The one thing that would not affect an entertainer in the same way as Michael Barrymore in the 1980s and 90s is that almost no-one would care if the entertainer was gay, whereas at the time it was a big deal.

lillypopdaisyduke · 09/06/2019 11:27

Did not watch, love Piers normally, do we expect Barrymore to appear in the Jungle this year ? hashtag comeback ?

Feenie · 09/06/2019 11:35

He already tried that years ago on Big Brother.

WorraLiberty · 09/06/2019 11:39

Then the tv went back to normal and I switched it off. Since then I always thought there was something very sinister about him and cannot stand to watch him or hear him talk.

I don't get it. The only 'sinister' thing there (if you can call it sinister) is your reaction to a perfectly normal TV broadcast. Yet you thought he was the sinister one Confused

Soola · 09/06/2019 11:42

@WorraLiberty

It was a surreal experience. Time went in slow motion and sounds were faded out and his face stared right out at me. Not your usual viewing at all.

bananasonfire · 09/06/2019 11:42

Soola did you speak to your GP?

Soola · 09/06/2019 11:48

@bananasonfire

No. Grin

WorraLiberty · 09/06/2019 11:50

I said broadcast, not viewing.

If you had a dip in blood sugar or whatever other probable reason for that happening while watching TV, I don't think it makes the person on the screen sinister.

longwayoff · 09/06/2019 11:55

Soola, it was your experience and for you to describe, nobody else. Take no notice of the nastiness.

WorraLiberty · 09/06/2019 12:01

What nastiness for goodness sake?

Soola's reaction to watching the TV screen was very probably a medical issue and absolutely nothing to do with the person whose image was being broadcast at the time.

How is pointing out the obvious nasty?

LoafofSellotape · 09/06/2019 12:12

I get what Soola is saying, there was a blip and the telly programme slowed down and during that time she could take a closer look at his face and it showed a darker side to his personality as he wasn't smiling or laughing but scowling/grimacing or whatever.

I've always found him extremely odd and not funny whatsoever, like there's a very dark side to him.

Ohnotanothernamechange · 09/06/2019 12:19

There's always been an air of sadness about Michael Barrymore IMO. Whenever you see him he's always in character. You never actually see the real him. He couldn't just let go during the during this interview either, he's always playing for laughs and the audiences approval. It was the same when he did Celebrity Big Brother.

I agree with the poster who said that he doesn't seem to know who he is. He is I think addicted to public adulation and when that went he sort of combusted.
