Hand hold: DH missing after "accident"

Stickywhitelovepiss · 07/06/2019 19:20

I know it's not been long, but this is really out of character and not sure what to do next.

Rang my DH on his mobile to let him know what time I'd get in and he didn't answer - often happens so then call him on work line. His work said he'd called in on way back in after lunch saying he'd been in a car accident but was fine, and neither hide nor hair heard since. That's all I know - no indication of the severity of the accident or where he or my car (which he drives) have got to.

I've been trying him on his mobile countless times, called 101 to see if they've got him somewhere, also A&E - but no joy.

He's been off grid for about 5 hours now, when he'd normally have picked me up, got the Tesco and we'd be sitting starting our weekend. But not even a text to let me know he's not dead in a ditch, and I don't have that phone tracker either on this latest handset.

Starting to panic slightly - if anyone is around for a hand hold or some pointers as to how I can track him down that's would be much appreciated....

So sorry OP. What everyone else has said is true. They cannot breathalyse or take bloods at custody without him being under arrest. It would be illegal!

Just to let you know, it takes about 2 months for blood results to come back.

StealthPolarBear · 08/06/2019 09:17

Op do you have children? I'd be tempted to come down very strongly on this.

Whatevermission · 08/06/2019 09:17

Could it have been a case of mistaken identity? He has an accident, police attend and think he's wanted on some other charges so brings him in. After a bit of timing checking him out, he's not their man so let's him go. They even drop him home!

This is possible? I know someone who was pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt and changed with a very serious offence because of mistaken identity

Fibbke · 08/06/2019 09:21

The police do breathalyse people not under arrest. Its voluntary and i completely believe that he could have been waiting around in corridors while they got around to doing it.

But why wouldn't he just tell op this? It would certainly make an amusing anecdote at dinner parties!

Shequakes · 08/06/2019 09:23

Why wouldnt he tell the OP that they took him in, thinking he was someone else. Was it likely this person had the same name and date of birth?

That he didnt have ID or the police would rather take him in, than go with him to his house, round the corner to let him get ID.

They dont just take your name and then take you immediately.

MrsPandigital · 08/06/2019 09:24

@Fibbke you are wrong.

Yes, they can do a roadside breath test without being under arrest. But they cannot do one at the station without arresting him.

To have a breath test or bloods taken means that officers had a suspicion of drugs or alcohol.

This ^^. And cars can be involved in accidents with no damage - I drove into the back of a volvo once, fairly slowly, and it had no damage at all. My car bonnet was shoved up and couldn't be opened! (Fiesta)
He'd have needed to ring work because they were expecting him back sooner than OP was expecting him. He probably thought he could get it sorted quickly and then tell OP at home.

FriarTuck · 08/06/2019 09:26

But they cannot do one at the station without arresting him.
And if they didn't have a working breathalyser with them and asked DH if he'd mind coming back to the station to do one there....

MrsPandigital · 08/06/2019 09:29

@FriarTuck
On the off chance the breath test didn't work, fine. But you CANNOT voluntarily give bloods. He would've been under arrest.

They would do urine before bloods too.

MrsPandigital · 08/06/2019 09:30

@Friar are you an officer? I have a police sergeant filling me in on all the laws 😊

ineedaholidaynow · 08/06/2019 09:32

If he was there voluntarily or giving a witness statement would he be on the 101 records?

fedup21 · 08/06/2019 09:32

Someone reversed into him and started yelling at him (?) so he called the police and both were taken to the station and unable to call you for ten hours (?) before releasing him on no charge. That is just bizarre

How was he able to let work know but not you?
Why does he go home for lunch every day? I could sort of understand if you worked over the road and nipped home but I don’t know anyone who drives home for lunch.

Very odd-what else has he said?

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 08/06/2019 09:38

Why does he go home for lunch every day?

The OP has explained this, it’s so he can also feed the cat and let them in or out (depending on where they were when he left in the morning).

Are you thinking that’s what took the time at the police station? They were interrogating him about this?

“But why your home? Why not nip to the Tesco Local and grab a meal deal? Why? WHY?”

Divinelyuninspired · 08/06/2019 09:39

There could have been an altercation between him and the other driver. He did say the other person was shouting and that your dp would probably not back down.

DoctorDread · 08/06/2019 09:39

I wonder if the OP will ever fully get to the bottom of it? It does sound all a bit strange

SparklyMagpie · 08/06/2019 09:40

Yeah I'd be believing the number of police officers on this thread, they're all virtually saying the same thing

I thought it sounded off from your update of speaking to him

Hope you're ok OP!

I'd also imagine the police station would be open

ASauvignonADay · 08/06/2019 09:40

Was the car moved or was the actual incident just round the corner?

LightDrizzle · 08/06/2019 09:41

No damage to the car?
Something else is going on.
For the police on this thread, do people still get arrested for kerb crawling?
My work car park used to be in our city’s red light area, and it’s not only a nocturnal thing.
His story doesn’t add up at all and I’m struggling to work out what could be so bad that he can’t tell his wife, but not bad enough to leave injuries, keep him in custody or damage the car. Cars scratch, dent and buckle very easily, - from my bitter experience of the softest dings.
Or could the police have contacted him to come in to the station on another matter, while he was on his lunch break?

JockTamsonsBairns · 08/06/2019 09:46

@fedup21 my DH has driven home for lunch for the past nine years!

GrumbleBumble · 08/06/2019 09:49

fedup in a previous house and job I was 10 minutes drive from home and often went home for lunch. I would hang the washing out, fuss the cats and eat left overs or make a sandwich. It didn't do it every day but fairly often.

hellenbackagen · 08/06/2019 09:50

I'm sorry op but his version of events is absolute bullshit.

Bloods are not taken unless under arrest.

Interviews (even of 6 questions) are conducted under caution, and it still
Sounds to me that he was under arrest.

He is clearly not wanting to tell the truth. He is burying his head in the sand and hoping it all goes away.

You will no doubt find out but probably only when he gets a summons to court. How long is he going to keep up this charade?

I can absolutely with 100 % conviction say that he is lying. Police just do not operate the way he is describing. We don't have time and the only reason anyone is at a custody suite is if they are under arrest.

Voluntary interview can be done at A place other than custody.

Redtartanshoes · 08/06/2019 09:53

Bizarre to ridiculous. 7hours at a police station for a car that wasn’t damaged, and in all that time he couldn’t send you a quick text?

He was apparently sat in a corridor.. not death row

ineedaholidaynow · 08/06/2019 09:54

Even if there is no visible damage to the car isn’t it a good idea to get it checked at a garage just in case the chassis is damaged?

Aren’t you also meant to notify your insurance?

I assume this was more than an accidental nudge done when parking.

hellenbackagen · 08/06/2019 09:55

To clarify about roadside breath tests

They are not evidential and not even necessary. They are a guide only at the roadside.

You can be arrested sec 4 - unfit through drink or drugs without a roadside breath test

The evidence is then gathered at the station under arrest - ie- blowing into the evidential intoxilyser or bloods.
