HELP! How to stop crows attacking my car?

I have a black car that Iv had 3/4 months and it is parked on my drive way. For the last month 2 crows keep attacking a specific area on the car. They start this as soon as it’s light. They are very angry with the car not just pecking at it and are really scratching it. There is no road kill underneath, they’ve done it when it’s really clean (thinking possibly a reflection thing) and also when it’s dirty. They’ve done it when it’s sunny as well as when it’s been damp and dull.

Went to the garage and they weren’t interested. I. Can’t cover the whole car as they would still get under it to do it as it’s right at the bottom of the car. I can’t park my car anywhere else.

Any crow experts? Anything that can deter them?? Iv been banging on the widow each time I see them do it and they do fly off but of course come back every day. They like pecking on my front lawn so obviously have a food source there too!

You do realise this sounds like something from the plot of a horror film...

I have had a black car for several years. I have never seen any crows take any interest in it.

prettywhiteguitar · 07/06/2019 19:17

A customer had a problem with this as they were pecking the sliding doors, covering them in blood and feathers Shock totally gross ! They think their reflection is another crow so attacking them. They have put this fake cats with reflective eyes in front of the doors, seemed to work ?

Inbedbynine · 07/06/2019 20:07

My last car was black, in fact exactly the same car but this one is newer! Lived here four years and no bother!!

Stick fake cats to the side of my car??!

Maybe get a big toy cat and sit it on the spot.

dudsville · 07/06/2019 21:11

I read "cows". Tbf that would have been just as odd.

TheInebriati · 07/06/2019 21:35

A fake cat or owl, or just big round eyes should scare them off - think of something like 2 shiny CD's on some black card.

(Unless they have chicks and think they are attacking a predator, you may end up with a mob.)

NCB2019 · 07/06/2019 22:41

Really sorry but I laughed at this thread. Then when I read the post that somebody had mistaken the 'crows' for 'cows' in the title, I laughed even harder. I might have even snorted a bit.

Had no idea crows attacking a car was even a thing!

rollingpine · 07/06/2019 22:49

I've seen crows attacking windows on a building in an industrial estate - there were several of them all lined up on the windowsill and they were going at the reflective glass - I think it must be something to do with their reflections.

Do they do the same if you park the car facing in the opposite direction?

WelshMoth · 07/06/2019 22:51

Crows are incredibly intelligent and often indulge in revenge gang warfare.

They've been known to remember people who've been cruel/targeting them and will often return the attitude. They're very sociable creatures and can work together to mob.

Have you intentionally or unintentionally been cruel to one?

LizB62A · 07/06/2019 23:06

I thought it said "cows" too - I was only popping in to check out the photos !!

Attache · 07/06/2019 23:13

We had this with windows. I'd assume reflections too. Could you put a cloth over that section of the car for a few weeks to break the association?

Inbedbynine · 08/06/2019 06:16

They are evil. They taunt me first! Iv never ever hurt a crow, but maybe I will start!

Iv turned the car around to see. It was exceedingly windy last night and can’t see any bird out at all right now.

How can I make big eye and attach then to the car?? Neighbours will think I’m crazy and knowing me I will forget to take them off and drive through town with them on Grin

How would I attach a cloth? Yes it could catch under the bonnet but how would I attach the bottom? If it was lose they would just get under it!! Evil bastards. It’s really badly scratched, not just the surface, down to the white.

Hang some wind chimes near your car, they hate the noise so does everybody else

picklemepopcorn · 08/06/2019 06:48

They won't bother getting under the cloth, as long as the cloth kills the reflection.

Inbedbynine · 08/06/2019 06:57

No where to hang the chimes anywhere near the car, nothing to hang them off, it’s soft of an open cul de sac, hard to explain.

Ok will try a cloth if I can find one.

Magnetic L-plates attached when it's parked up

NicoAndTheNiners · 08/06/2019 07:08

fake cat

fake owl with rotating head. Please get this! 😁

NicoAndTheNiners · 08/06/2019 07:10

spikes. You'd have to set them up each time you parked but hopefully once you break the habit they will stop. Could you park your car somewhere else for a week and see if they've forgotten about it after a week?

GummyGoddess · 08/06/2019 07:13

I would avoid provoking them, crows have been shown to have language and can pass on details about people who attacked them down the generations! You could be attacked for life Grin

Just the CD scarer should be fine.

AwkwardSquad · 08/06/2019 07:16

I’ve seen this happening to a car in the car park at work. Bizarre. It was one crow and it was really going for one spot on the roof of the car, on several different days. Couldn’t see anything to explain it.

VanillaSugarr · 08/06/2019 07:18

I read “cow” too. My DH once got a cow at night on Beverley Westwood (they stand on the tarmac at night to keep their hooves warm and there is no street lighting, what with it being a field and all) so I can clearly imagine a stampede of cows squashing a car.

I have seen crows chasing a red kite (bird, not flying toy) so they are vicious bustards.

Inbedbynine · 08/06/2019 07:24

That owl is hilarious! I wonder if it would stay standing. Imagine leaving it there and driving off, someone would probably nick it here! Cats might be an idea, again would be on the lawn and worry about people nicking them! Maybe move them when I move the car. Same with the spikes, knowing me I would forget to move them and would end up spiking my own tyres like something off police interceptors Grin

I don’t like cows, they scare me and there are a lot of cows locally so I’m glad at least it isn’t that!

Inbedbynine · 08/06/2019 07:25

I can’t really park the car elsewhere as there isn’t anywhere to park near the house and I have dc, one of which is disabled and just wouldn’t work having to walk half a mile to the car when getting out the house.

Did you buy a Raven last Christmas? They were very popular with MNs. If so maybe you could use that to scare the crows. Surely a raven trump's a crow.

stucknoue · 08/06/2019 07:49

At least it's your car, they are attacking us and our dog every time we go out the house front or back! Made the dog bleed last year, it's an annual problem when they have young. There's 3 little crows in our garden unable to fly currently. They also attack our skylights. No solution I'm afraid
