HELP! How to stop crows attacking my car?

I have a black car that Iv had 3/4 months and it is parked on my drive way. For the last month 2 crows keep attacking a specific area on the car. They start this as soon as it’s light. They are very angry with the car not just pecking at it and are really scratching it. There is no road kill underneath, they’ve done it when it’s really clean (thinking possibly a reflection thing) and also when it’s dirty. They’ve done it when it’s sunny as well as when it’s been damp and dull.

Went to the garage and they weren’t interested. I. Can’t cover the whole car as they would still get under it to do it as it’s right at the bottom of the car. I can’t park my car anywhere else.

Any crow experts? Anything that can deter them?? Iv been banging on the widow each time I see them do it and they do fly off but of course come back every day. They like pecking on my front lawn so obviously have a food source there too!

Crows not only hold grudges, but make sure that their entire family holds the grudge too. A professor working on crow intelligence in the US has to wear a mask around campus to avoid being attacked by groups of crows, when only one of them has been captured and Re-released. I will try and remember where I saw that.

I used to work in one building and had to walk to get my lunch from another building - we left at the same time every day and the crows would be waiting for us. On the way there they ignored us but on the way back they would dive bomb us every single day - it got to the point that we'd go in pairs; one would carry the sandwiches and the other would do a windmill to get them away as we'd been scratched on our head before.

The flip side, we had a juvenile crow in our garden which hopped around for days so we put bird seed on the floor as well as on the bird table, now it taps on the patio door for food at the same time each day.

There's a clip of the video here

I'm sure the whole film is on YouTube but can't find it now.

I feel I’m being bullied in my own home Grin I now have the cover. It’s passing down and not a bird in sight so I will put it on later.

I have no way of doing the crow song thing.

That's the study I was thinking of earlier! Thank you!

Inbedbynine · 11/06/2019 10:07

Hmmm can’t find any kind of contact details on that link?

The bastards were out there again this morning. The cover I bought isn’t bloody big enough! It’s a xl one and isn’t deep enough to go down to where they are getting. They are so expensive!

The covers to fit it are over £100!!!!!

I have a large plastic fake owl to stop crows attacking my kitchen door! Its It's worked!

Inbedbynine · 11/06/2019 10:44

I think someone would nick it round here Grin

Rang rspb and they said it’s the reflection. Said to use some chemical to deter them but Iv been told by a valeter not to use it as not good for the paint!!! So currently stuck at looking to fork out £100 on a cover!!

Could you tuck an old towel or sheet under it to give it a DIY extension?

Inbedbynine · 11/06/2019 10:50

Iv tried that, nothing to keep it attached. As the crows are doing it so low the wind moves it so can get under it.

We have strung up cds in the trees to deter crows, anything nearby you could suspend some from? Or strung together and clipped on top of cover by clothes pegs down to affected part.

Inbedbynine · 11/06/2019 10:58

No there’s nothing o attach anything to, Iv tried that, it’s an open space in a cul de sac so no walls or anything! Iv found another cover cheaper on eBay.... will have to try that!

Might not be good for the paint, but will you have any paint left soon?

What about super king sheets and held into place by magnets?

picklemepopcorn · 11/06/2019 14:24

What about mud over the area? Just for a few days. Or that spray paint that peels off? I think they sell it cheaply in Aldi/Lidl. Some kind of decor paint.

Have you tried parking the car the other way around, I can't remember?

What about an obstacle in front of the area? Something light enough to move, but big enough to block their access. Maybe a sheet of plywood you rest against the car whenever you get out (with big eyes painted on, and pictures of cats and owls natch!

Jonette · 11/06/2019 14:31

Why not just a few brightly coloured post it notes over the area? You can buy a whole block in Poundland for a quid - should last you and certainly cheaper than 100 on a cover.

Inbedbynine · 11/06/2019 15:03

I’ve tried turning the car round. Made no difference. Also tried post its but most of them came off and I was running the street trying to pick them up Grin

Sheet with magnets might work but will have to be strong ones which I don’t have... my fridge ones don’t stick to the car. Will be curtain twitching as per, and hoping the cover coming tomorrow fits!

Some face makeup smeared over it might have worked and shouldn't damage the paintwork.

MrsJackman1 · 11/06/2019 15:23

"I know it’s the same 2 crows"
Oh My God - it's the Krow Twins Shock

Inbedbynine · 11/06/2019 16:35

They are for sure the same 2. No doubt about it. They do exactly the same thing each day. Fly to the house opposite, make their annoying noise, fly to next doors garden, peck about, make their annoying noise, fly to my garden and peck about, make their annoying noise even louder and then both attack my car. The bastards.

It would need a lot of make up as it’s a big area!

GummyGoddess · 11/06/2019 20:21

Hm, what about trapping the sheets in the doors and tucking them in under the wheels and under the bumper? Though you will look odd literally tucking your car into bed.

Inbedbynine · 11/06/2019 20:41

No I tried that, the sheet just flaps up all over the place. The weather isn’t great at the moment.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 11/06/2019 21:06

I can well imagine it’s the same two crows. One year I watched them strut around my garden pulling the heads off my flowers..

What about a tin of wax, but don’t buff it off, so enough to dull the shine and look streaky, that would be safe for your paintwork
