HELP! How to stop crows attacking my car?

I have a black car that Iv had 3/4 months and it is parked on my drive way. For the last month 2 crows keep attacking a specific area on the car. They start this as soon as it’s light. They are very angry with the car not just pecking at it and are really scratching it. There is no road kill underneath, they’ve done it when it’s really clean (thinking possibly a reflection thing) and also when it’s dirty. They’ve done it when it’s sunny as well as when it’s been damp and dull.

Went to the garage and they weren’t interested. I. Can’t cover the whole car as they would still get under it to do it as it’s right at the bottom of the car. I can’t park my car anywhere else.

Any crow experts? Anything that can deter them?? Iv been banging on the widow each time I see them do it and they do fly off but of course come back every day. They like pecking on my front lawn so obviously have a food source there too!

OP, did you see the suggestion about using two CDs as eyes? BluTack them to the car maybe?

Footle · 08/06/2019 08:15

Of course they might take the CDs
back to the nest in the hope of entertaining the babies with them, what with their superior intelligence.

GoFiguire · 08/06/2019 08:38

How about a nice book of Suduko and a framed photo of Nigel Farage?

NicoAndTheNiners · 08/06/2019 08:39

I used to have a pet crow. They love scrambled egg, make them breakfast!

Attache · 08/06/2019 08:46

I think the L plates are a great idea. Easy and might be enough to break up the reflections.

Inbedbynine · 08/06/2019 14:07

But they didn’t do it to my last car and it was exactly the same car this is just newer!

I haven’t seen them today as it’s so windy ... have to go find some cd first I think. Knowing me I will forget to take them off when I drive!

Won’t cds reflect even more though as they are so shiny?

We had swans that used to attack next doors car. They had to move it in the end, the male swan would get so angry and relentlessly attack it. It wasn't bothered by any other cars. The weirdest thing!

QueenBeee · 08/06/2019 14:16

Bob Flowerdew uses fake snakes to keep birds off his garden, even makes big ones from hose to hang in fruit trees. I think this would work but you might need a few and to keep moving them around to make it convincing.

Inbedbynine · 08/06/2019 14:20

My garden is going to look hilarious. Fake snakes, an owl that’s head twirls round, spikes, fake eyes on my car Grin

They weren’t attacking anything in my garden, but all the birds stopped visiting overnight and I wasn’t sure why.
DH had left a striped yellow bungee cord on the table and I think they thought it was a snake. Moved it and they were back at the feeders the next day. Could pop one of those near the car?

IncognitaIgnorama · 08/06/2019 15:41

Why don't you get one of the owls upthread and fix it to your car roof rather like the light on a police car? Then you won't have to worry about remembering to put it on and you'll be protected from the rest of the corvid mafia when you are out and about - they have excellent communication skills, and it won't just be those who live near you that know all about what you did for very long... Grin

picklemepopcorn · 08/06/2019 15:44

I think the CD idea is to position them so they appear to be looking at the crows. Maybe inside the car in a window, or in the window of the house 'looking' out.

Inbedbynine · 08/06/2019 15:56

This situation is really doing my head in but you’re all making me laugh thanks.

I will try in front room window first, then car window...

What about a water spray scarer? I have one to stop cats pooing in my garden. It's brilliant (until I forget it's on and go out and get soaked) Pest XT Jet Spray Battery Operated Motion Sensor Activated Cat and Fox Scarer & Repellent - Animal/Wildlife Repeller, Deters Garden Pests, Connects to Garden Hose (Single Pack) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071Z7YZ3F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_u28-CbMNF5BE1

Al2O3 · 08/06/2019 16:12

Which part of the car is it? Anywhere near the wing mirrors by any chance?

Lots of male birds find their reflection and the wing mirror a suitable size/shape for humping. Is there any bird spunk dribbling down your car doors?

Inbedbynine · 08/06/2019 16:48

Eeeeeewwwwww bird spunk?! Shock

So if you’re looking at the car to the right the lowest metal part before the wheel, all across the bottom until about half way across to where the number plate is. So nowhere near the mirrors or windows....

I think we would all get soaked with a water sprayer! I don’t have a hose/outdoor tap for that.

Blimey OP, sorry no idea what you can do.

We have a magpie that keeps throwing bread at our dog in our garden. Not a clue where it's getting the bread from. Dog goes nuts (understandably)

BMW6 · 08/06/2019 17:23

Here's a thought - is there some Ornithological(sp) Society you could ring for advice?

Inbedbynine · 08/06/2019 17:56

What’s that? Never heard of it? Maybe the rspb May help if I call them if all the above doesn’t help Grin

So nothing all day and heard a noise and it’s out there KICKING the car!!!!!! So completely different part as I turned the car round, so this is the opposite corner! The bastards!

We moved into a house, every morning heard banging from the spare room, finally worked out it was crows hurling themselves at the reflection, blood on the window. A nearby neighbour had huge trees when he cut them down it stopped.

Put a towel over the spot that is agitating them.

Frownette · 08/06/2019 20:17

Oh OP, sympathizing and smiling at the same time. Little persistent thugs.

Could you get a car cover?

Your car is obviously The Chosen One!

Inbedbynine · 08/06/2019 20:19

Yes I’m going to have to have to I think but what a faff every time I go in and out! Can’t believe it, why do they have beef with me now! I wouldn’t be bothered if it wasn’t for the fact how much they are damaging the car.

Inbedbynine · 08/06/2019 20:22

Most of the car covers that are affordable on amazon (next day delivery) are silver so would that be good or bad?
