It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

Because I have chronic pain Tapas and direct heat like the hot water bottle helps it. The soft material of a dressing gown helps it. A hot head, stuffy air and bare skin make it worse.

EnidButton · 04/06/2019 12:36

On these threads I have often wondered why so many people seem to imply that anyone disliking Summer weather, for whatever reason, is wrong. And then keep posting so those who don't enjoy hot weather end up defending themselves.

I can't imagine it the other way around. A thread on loving Summer where a few posters keep posting to tell everyone else they're wrong, it's actually awful. It's very curious.

People's bodies have different needs and preferences. Shock. Horror.

Asta19 · 04/06/2019 12:46

It's cool, drizzly and grey here today (N.London) so I'm happy! Actually as I write this the drizzle is becoming quite heavy rain. I hate summer clothes too. Much prefer to be snuggled up in a cosy jumper. Winter clothes just seem to suit my body shape more.

managedmis · 04/06/2019 12:53

So at the risk of sounding incredibly patronising (sorry) - wearing loose fitting clothes does make a huge difference.

^ agreed

LoafofSellotape · 04/06/2019 13:02

EnidButton

I agree,it's perfectly acceptable to moan about being cold and hating the rain but you can't do the same about the summer.

Becca19962014 · 04/06/2019 13:37

This morning I had one of those "but it's nice how can you hate hot weather" and "it's not like it really gets hot here" conversations with someone.

Yesterday I got told people cope with my conditions around the world so no reason for me not to cope here. Actually the mortality rate in hotter countries is very high for my condition but apparently that's not the point Hmm

People are wierd.

Hotterthanahotthing · 04/06/2019 13:44

It is very hard to feel sorry forsomeone complaining of warm weather when the rest of us are cold wearing jumpers and raincoats. Please complain after checking that the rest of the country has the same weather.

waterandmilk · 04/06/2019 13:47

I got excited today as it is cooler. Then, on the drive home, I was dreaming of autumn colours and muddy puddles and early evenings.

HelenaDove · 04/06/2019 13:53

"it's not like it really gets hot here"

Ahh the gaslighting has started already.

RosaWaiting · 04/06/2019 15:29

Hotter "Please complain after checking that the rest of the country has the same weather."

the UK isn't that small Confused Of course we will have different weather!

YesQueen · 04/06/2019 15:32

I post this every year. Try being covered head to toe in this including the palms of your hands and soles of your feet every summer. Oh and yes it's as ITCHY as it looks!!!
This is fairly mild but it gets a lot worse and there's nothing I can do about it

It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.
Becca19962014 · 04/06/2019 15:43

We get different weather from the official weather station for where I live (it's about 11 miles away). On Saturday it recorded a temperature of 19c. However, it got to over 25c (my equipment registered 26c for the few minutes I was out in it). All kinds of things effect temperature. I'm at sea level, however, in order to go literally anywhere I need to go up huge hills or in some cases mountains. Today it's showing as 14, I've 17 in my equipment which is ok for me. Room temp still over 18 though.

It's quite common for people to miss things like cold weather payment despite it being freezing where they live for the required 7 days because the stations are so far away.

What is hot to me, with my conditions, and can causes issues like seizures is not for others. Those who were here last year would have seen the shit I got for complaining about a "pathetic 20c".

I'm genuinely terrified of summer and sun.

Asta19 · 04/06/2019 15:57

YesQueen

Is it a heat rash? As I've been getting that too the past couple of years. And yes it is really itchy!

RosaWaiting · 04/06/2019 16:52

Yes Becca there were some really rude people around

thank you for explaining why weather station weather doesn't make sense!

Emmabryant123 · 04/06/2019 16:53

My daughter has been getting heat rash all ready ugh and it's not even got as hot as it can yet :(
As soon as it gets to about 18c she is covered in it

YesQueen · 04/06/2019 16:54

@Asta19 no, I have cholinergic urticaria

Asta19 · 04/06/2019 16:56

Ah ok, I think mine's just heat rash then as I only get it if I'm out in the sun.

Emmabryant123 · 04/06/2019 16:57

Also problem with our flat is our lounge was regularly over 30c last summer ...
We are in a flat on the 4th floor and the lounge has the sun on it all afternoon
Despite keeping the curtains shut it was still over 30c for months last year ffs.
Unbearable
Honestly what is enjoyable about it being so hot your sweating all day!? Genuine question as I fail to see how something so uncomfortable is enjoyable

And then there is suncream on my kid ugh
Easier to pop extra layers on winter for her than that crap

Oh and she prefers winter
She's 3 and has been saying ' it's so hot mummy ' all ready
Clearly takes after me 😁😀

Rockbird · 04/06/2019 20:35

Please complain after checking that the rest of the country has the same weather.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've read on here in an age. When can we start, when Hadrian's Wall hits 25°? The Orkney and Shetlands? Just let us know. In the meantime I'll just keep telling myself that I'm not really hot because someone somewhere else is wearing a cardi.

GummyGoddess · 04/06/2019 20:56

It wasn't too bad today. Cardigan for me and long tops for the DC so I don't have to endure putting sunblock on them. It's looking pretty good for the rest of the week!

I'm hoping accuweather is correct as it isn't predicting anything over 25 for weeks.

buttertoasty · 04/06/2019 21:24

Ahhhh I relied on these threads last year, pleased they have come back.

It rained today which offered some relief from the sun, except I was the only mug walking around town in sandals. Also summer rain flares my hayfever, so now I can't breathe through my nose.

Really, really hate summer.

buttertoasty · 04/06/2019 21:25

This made me laugh out loud GrinGrin

CaptainHammer · 04/06/2019 21:33

rockbird haha!

isseywithcats · 04/06/2019 21:34

being as it has pissed it down up here in yorkshire for most of this afternoon and night im still waiting for summer to arrive then i will wallow in sunshine i love summer

TapasForTwo · 04/06/2019 22:45

I apologise if I have been less than sympathetic towards the summer haters. I genuinely didn't realise just how uncomfortable warm weather can be for some people. This thread has been an education, and I promise I will be more sympathetic in future. However, we have had 13 degrees and torrential rain, which the garden desperately needed, and I hope this isn't what we will get all summer.

Whereas summer clothes mean being exposed, having to wear suncream, checking your bra straps aren't showing, hair removal.

Expletive summer clothes don't have to be skimpy. That is a popular misconception. A pair of cool cotton or linen trousers or a maxi dress (not a strappy one). Loose tops with mid or long sleeves. You can just as easily cover up in summer clothes as you can in winter clothes.
