Where to buy a bed frame that's decent but won't break the bank (or, break!)?

I need to get a new kingsize bed frame, but only have about £300 to spend. The ones I've seen I like so far as either more expensive, or look flimsy!

Where would you get a decent but inexpensive bed frame from?

DP and I are both tall and overweight - and DP is large framed, even when he's not overweight - so together we weight loads! We need a sturdy frame.

I'd like a wood frame ideally, and DP's too tall to have a frame that restricts his feed hanging off the end. (What's the name for that bit of the bed that's the opposite of that headboard?)

Where would you go to get this?

TIA Flowers

Have you tried IKEA? They've moved away from the EU sizes and stock more UK sizes.

Ikea

Ah just checked, over budget is afraid. But we have one that is so far super strong and hard wearing.

resisterpersister · 23/05/2019 22:13

I looked at Ikea before, but they either didn't look very sturdy or they I didn't like them!

Does anyone have an Ikea bed frame? Are they sturdier than they look / OK for two fatties larger people?

I'll have another look...

Applekatie. I was just looking - they look great! But like you say, over budget sadly.

The word you are looking for is footboard OP. Not sure I can help on long, cheap beds other than Ikea though.

M&S sale £319. Several colours available.

FatandSassy · 23/05/2019 22:18

IKEA - we've had two (both v big and overweight, my guy is 6'4") and why're both super sturdy.

FatandSassy · 23/05/2019 22:19

*theyre

Also. We didn't get rid of one because it broke. We gave it to our son and bought another!

The hydraulic lift up storage beds are very sturdy, and so useful for storage. I got one off eBay very cheaply and it's fantastic

RainbowMum11 · 23/05/2019 22:20

Ikea

itsbetterthanabox · 23/05/2019 22:22

Ikea
Get a metal frame and make sure you get the slats part with the highest number of slats. Me and husband are about 40 stone together and it's been great.

resisterpersister · 23/05/2019 22:26

Looking again at the Ikea beds. The right price range for sure. But I'm just not keen on the styles they have in at the moment. They're really boxy.

The only headboard I think looks OK, comes with the bit at the end (whatever it's called!) and we need one without.

I bought our very large, sturdy bed frame from here. Absolutely love it! kubekfurniture.com

dearohdearohdear9 · 23/05/2019 22:28

slightly more expensive than you planned, not wood either, but I have had this bed for about 4 years, considering what I paid its amazing. Its very heavy and seems very strong. The spot welding could be a little tidier, apart and it has those silly sprung slats (most of the new beds seem to have them sadly).

I bought an extra strong bed frame from the reinforced beds company. Cost about £250 for a double. It was for DS2 who is The Destroyer of Furniture and had previously bent two metal bed frames, through him and his massive mates sitting on them Hmm

resisterpersister · 23/05/2019 22:32

I really, really don't like the range of beds Ikea have in right now (sorry!). They're mostly along these lines.

They look horribly boxy to me. I feel irritated, looking at them! Which is unusual - if I don't like something, I'm usually just not keen on it - it's rare that looking at a design of an object would make me actually feel irritation! (Apologies to anyone who has one / likes this style!).

Reviews say it’s strong.

The Kubek ones are lovely! But - about double my budget, sadly...

itsbetterthanabox · 23/05/2019 22:39

Just seems if you want cheap and also strong then you might have to not have it look exactly as you like.
It's definitely worth one being not the prettiest but not breaking all the time (I speak from experience)
