Where to buy a bed frame that's decent but won't break the bank (or, break!)?

I need to get a new kingsize bed frame, but only have about £300 to spend. The ones I've seen I like so far as either more expensive, or look flimsy!

Where would you get a decent but inexpensive bed frame from?

DP and I are both tall and overweight - and DP is large framed, even when he's not overweight - so together we weight loads! We need a sturdy frame.

I'd like a wood frame ideally, and DP's too tall to have a frame that restricts his feed hanging off the end. (What's the name for that bit of the bed that's the opposite of that headboard?)

Where would you go to get this?

TIA Flowers

Or this one if you refer grey and a softer look:

I think that eBay bed you posted is beautiful Blush can only imagine what it’d look like with a nice wood stain. I’m a tad obsessed with eBay! Yes definitely check the hovag out when you’ve got the money for a mattress. My back issues have completely disappeared. Good luck, I hope you manage to find something

Found the one I was looking for! This is our bed. Easy to assemble and very comfy. Really pleased with it.

ive not bought from wayfair, but the second bed I linked to was a fair weight, so guessing it would have some strength to it. Any chance of putting it on a credit card just in case? The slats would be the most likely to go imo.

resisterpersister · 23/05/2019 23:29

B19M and BikeSkiRun that bed does tick my boxes, thanks!

I'm going to keep looking and see if I can find any others to compare to, as it has one terrible review (but balanced by lots of good reviews, to be fair) but also M&S send people to build it for you, "for free". I wonder how much of the bed price is paying for this service? And whether I can get a better quality bed for the same price if I don't have to pay someone to put it together for me! Also, I'd prefer a bed that wasn't quite so low (but that's not essential).

If I can't find anything else, that does fit the bill, though. I don't absolutely love it, but I do like it and I'd be very happy with it. Thanks Flowers

zoezipp oh, I like it too! I don't think it'd be funny because I hate it! Just it's so different from the simple, unfussy bed that DP thinks I'm shopping for, it'd be really funny to see his reaction if an ornate four poster suddenly appeared!

Haha, no it doesn't! Grin Grin Grin

Ilovewheelychairs thanks :) But - ideally I'd like a wooden frame (I'm a fussy bugger, sorry!)

Have you looked on gumtree? I'm about to put a really good quality one on for a third of your budget and there are loads of others on there. Have you any British heart foundation charity shops near you? They often have good ones in although can be a bit of luck finding the right thing at the right time.

RaspberryBubblegum · 23/05/2019 23:49

I know people are unlikely to suggest argos, but they do have 20% off quite a few beds right now meaning you could get one of the more expensive sturdy beds cheaper. Just thought I'd let you know! 🙂 good luck!

I recently bought this bed in double. Can’t vouch for its longterm strength but it has full width slats and a bracing piece that runs from head to foot up the middle with a leg underneath (iyswim)

Despite the low price it’s very well made, and all the fixings came in separate little bags marked with their identifying code, which was tremendously helpful!

My only niggle about the design is that the flat top to the footboard sticks out at the corners, but as long as the duvet covers them that’s ok.

I have the Hemnes bed at IKEA in a European size - they're longer! EU beds are 2m long. Mines 140x200 but you'd want 160x200.

I've had about 8 years and it's still fab. Had one little squeak which required a little nut tightening. For context I'm a fatty who turns their mattress frequently to even out wear. Blush

Put it this way - my nan had an IKEA king size that she had for about 20 years - she only got rid because she had to downsize to a double. Lasted 4 house moves.

Our local Facebook selling page often has bedframes for second hand sale. Might be worth just looking to see if theres any on there currently.

Weird. Definitely worth retrying. All my beds are from there and they are fantastic.

Update - I chose a bed! Thanks for your help everyone.

Since this thread two things happened, firstly DP moved the goal posts said he doesn't want a bed that's too low down, and some of the simple wood ones I liked were lower than normal, so they were out.

Also, we went to visit family who live near Ikea at half term, and thought we'd just pop in to have a look. What a difference it made to see the beds in real life, we've chosen one I completely ignored online.

It's this one. I discounted is as we can't have one with a footboard or similar as DP's tall, but in the shop they had it the other way round, on display, with the smaller bar as the headboard - and it looked great!

I'm not really keen on the look of it online much at all, but I really liked it in real life. Odd!

I bought a wooden bed frame second-hand and splurged on the mattress instead.

We have this www.wayfair.co.uk/furniture/pdp/home-haus-quebec-upholstered-bed-frame-hema2789.html

Its lovely and just a smidgen above budget x

I'd get a Superking if I were you. Feels much more spacious than the king.

This looks good.

We just had same problem as you - we went to oak Furniture Land and bought sturdy framed wooden bed- with wide thick bed slats.
Bought without a mattress was £400 though

eBay.
