I have a free delivery pass so thought I would give it a go, what’s nice from there?

Good luck, they’ll substitute the one thing you really want with something completely unrelated and inedible.

I’ve shopped with them once, never again!

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 23/05/2019 11:07

Oh no! Are they really that bad?
I usually shop with Tesco/Sainsbury’s who are very good at subs.

Everyone must hate ASDA 😂

I only go to Asda for George clothing and the cafe.

Sorry not helpful Blush

Sissy79 · 23/05/2019 12:32

I ordered some maple flavour nuts from Asda one Christmas. They substituted with bacon.

True I'm afraid, ive never worked out how they can tell what the single most crucial on your shopping list is!

On a more positive note, the fresh pizzas are quite nice. And I'm addicted to the salt and vinegar chickpeas!

iklboo · 23/05/2019 12:38

They usually have good offers on alcohol.

ElizaPancakes · 23/05/2019 12:51

I never have a problem with Asda, you just select the ‘no subs’ option at checkout? I do our weekly shop there, just do yours as you normally would.

DoraleeRhodes · 23/05/2019 13:26

I order from Asda every week, usually get some subs but no real issues.

JaffaCakesAreAMealInABite · 23/05/2019 13:36

I mainly shop in Sainsburys and M&S, but go to Asda for junk food (sweets and chocolate mainly) and sometimes for household cleaning products. I usually buy cleaning products on amazon pantry, but I always price check against Sainsburys and Asda before ordering. If they are cheaper then I’ll buy from there. You often get good deals on things like persil, comfort and dishwasher tablets.

troppibambini · 23/05/2019 13:45

Hideously bad for online every time I use them at least a quarter of my shopping is substituted or not available.
The food is fine just unreliable.
I always vow never again but then get lazy and can't be bothered going to Aldi.

MatchSetPoint · 23/05/2019 13:49

I hate ASDA foods it’s always short dated and not great quality, the only thing that’s ok is the shredded iceberg lettuce 45p I think.

missmouse101 · 23/05/2019 13:49

I use them every week and there's rarely a problem! The prices are good. Their own bread is nice, and some of their own posh brand cheeses!

Beaubird83 · 23/05/2019 13:52

The one thing I avoid from Asda is their own branded baked beans. The sauce is always way too thick!
They’re good for deals on junk food, cleaning stuff and fresh fruit isn’t bad. Their freshly made pizzas are lovely but not sure if you can order them online!

hellhavenofury · 23/05/2019 14:25

I have just done an online order for ASDA - Yes I get some subs but nothing too out there and you can always say no when they arrive! I am gluten intolerant and there Free From range is so good! I swapped from Tesco to ASDA and happy I did!

DoneLikeAKipper · 23/05/2019 14:28

Ah, I wouldn’t have asked this on MN, there’s massive supermarket snobbery on this site. I generally have no issues ordering from them, BUT if ordering chicken, dates can be hit and miss. They usually give a warning in the receipt email that something is close to a ‘best by’ date on delivery, but I’ve been caught out once or twice. I find their fruit always keeps well, I also often order their bags of prepeeled potatoes as they really cut the faff when I want some quick roasties Blush.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/05/2019 14:33

I shop with Asda weekly, very few issues.
A £90 shop today had one sub, green cistern blocks instead of blue ones.

I really like their aioli, their 3 for £5 tapas dishes, the fancy cheese, the fruit bags, 3 for £10 meat/fish, tomato pasta sauce, big pizzas.
The fancy branded keffir is usually cheaper than elsewhere and they currently have a variety of non dairy milks at 3 for £3.

MustardScreams · 23/05/2019 14:37

It’s not being a snob, their customer service is appalling! Nearly a quarter of the items I ordered weren’t available, the subs were mental, and everything was short dated.

Ocado is popular because their subs are generally sensible, they let you know in advance of any changes, they pack according to date and whether it is fridge, frozen or cupboard so you don’t need to root around. The delivery people are polite and they bring the food into your kitchen. The ASDA driver looked like I’d slapped his newborn when I said “the kitchens fine” and dropped the baskets by my feet, breaking my eggs.

It’s not snobbery to want to have a decent customer service experience when I’m spending my hard earned money!

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/05/2019 14:40

Ooh, and the wee protein snack packs are delish.

PrincessScarlett · 23/05/2019 14:41

I'd just use your free delivery for George. Their groceries are naff.

Stravapalava · 23/05/2019 14:43

I only go to the shop as I have had loads of ridiculous subs from them. These are my recommendations:

groceries.asda.com/product/snacking-pots/asda-apricot-cranberry-seed-shots-5-pack/1000003092190 and the associated other varieties

Their satsumas and their soft fruit is always nice.
Knock off alpen bars are nice.
Own brand frozen yoghurt & own brand knock off ice creams are good.
Their own branded cereals are nice, although if you like brands, they've got a 2 for £4 deal on at the moment.
They sell loads of funky spreads & whole earth / meridian nut butters.
The frozen stone baked and ultra thin pizzas are really yummy.
They also do a really nice chilli beef soup which is on our list every week.
Lindahls Kvarg is on offer 4 for £1 every week. It's so nice, really creamy and thick and filling.

EssentialHummus · 23/05/2019 14:47

Junk food and low-cal ready meals are great there. Blush

BlackPrism · 23/05/2019 14:57

Squash

dreichuplands · 23/05/2019 14:58

They have some nice homeware stuff sometimes

BlondeBumshelll · 23/05/2019 15:03

I shop with Asda every week. I just untick the subs part on the items I really, really don't want subbed. But to be honest most of the subs I receive are the bigger pack of the thing I ordered or a more expensive item. And if you don't like the sub just hand it back to the delivery driver or, if you accept it and you really didn't like it, they'll refund it, no questions asked.

My shopping has been way cheaper since I switched from Tesco.
