What shall I buy from ASDA?

I have a free delivery pass so thought I would give it a go, what’s nice from there?

I don't online shop with them but I shop there and have no problem at all with their groceries. They're no better or worse than Tesco and Sainsbury's.

Number3or4 · 23/05/2019 15:08

The only reason I stopped doing online shopping with ASDA, is because a delivery driver refused to help me with carrying the shopping up to my floor in the flat I live in. I just had a c-section and was used to Sainsbury carrying the shopping up to my floor. I ended up taking what I could and refused the rest. I then went back to Sainsbury shopping, after my delivery pass finished as it was annoying having to time shopping with when dh would be home.

Number3or4 · 23/05/2019 15:10

Yes, whenever there was a sub it was either a bigger pack or a more expensive one.

Talith · 23/05/2019 15:10

Their cherry juice is nice and if memory serves, more cherries per slurp (ingredients wise not actual cherries bobbing around) than the posh brand one I can't remember the name of.

Baddabo · 23/05/2019 15:13

I shop at ASDA and have weekly deliveries. I very rarely, if ever, have subs sent. Happy with them, completely. I moved to ASDA because Tesco was always subbing 80% of my shopping.

Guess it depends where you are as to whether you get a good experience!

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/05/2019 15:22

@Baddabo
Yes, I think that's it.
I also use them so often I know all the drivers so they know exactly where I like my shopping and how to unpack it for me, which they all do.
I do use Sainsbos or Tesco occasionally for a change, both are fine too but more expensive, plus my delivery pass is with Asda.

littlemisscynical · 23/05/2019 15:27

I'm in NI and get ASDA every week. Can't fault them. Rarely any subs

DesperadoDan · 23/05/2019 15:34

Cannot stand George clothing!!! There’s loads that’s good in Asda food wise, if in doubt go for brands. Their own bakery items are always good, their fresh fruit and veg is fantastic, never a bruised banana in the bunch. DD has one of their pre packaged salads or pasta salads for lunch most days.
I have had no issues with online Asda shops so have never had to deal with their customer service.
Maybe their service varies in different areas?

CheddarandCrackers · 23/05/2019 15:50

We order from them every week. Any subs are emailed on the morning of delivery and you can send them back if no good. Always polite and friendly, no issues here!

I've found if I log in the night before it'll tell me if anything ordered has some out of stock or the price has changed so I can choose an alternative.

GMtoBe · 23/05/2019 15:54

Garlic crackers, their own mint chocolate chip cones, smartprice hot chocolate, pizza counter pizzas, tiger bread, extra soft wholemeal rolls, authentic Greek Yogurt. If you have babies/toddlers, their little angels range is brilliant. I get the vapour bath for DD and lots of their snacks. She particularly likes the sweet potato turtles. I know mumsnet generally doesn't like Asda but I shop with them every week and they're brilliant.

Morgan12 · 23/05/2019 15:55

I've tried every supermarket and much prefer Asda. Their pizzas and Indian ready meals are better than takeaway. I also get the smart price Red Leicester cheese and it's great.

GMtoBe · 23/05/2019 15:55

Cross post Squiff!

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/05/2019 16:01

My Dd loves those garlic crackers, they repeat on me for about 3 months so I had to stop eating them!

BlueMerchant · 23/05/2019 16:03

Pizza counter pizzas are the best supermarket pizzas ever.

Loyaultemelie · 23/05/2019 16:21

I placed an entirely vegetarian order and they substituted cheese with pepperoni. They also turned up 2 hours early

toomuchtooold · 23/05/2019 16:25

Tiger bread!

And pyjamas and leggings. But probably not in your weekly shop.

RavenLG · 23/05/2019 16:47

Another one that agrees with the substitutions. I had 11 substitutions on my last shop. A couple we're fine (i.e. 3 x 200g pistachios instead of the 1 x 600g bag ordered) but some literally make no sense, I wish they would just miss them off. I loathe ordering from them. Can't wait to pass my driving test so I don't have to rely on DP to get me to Lidl

Pacie · 23/05/2019 17:00

Just want to jump in as an Asda Delivery Driver. If a driver ever 'drops' your tote, refuses to carry your tote in or won't help empty then PLEASE report them to your local Asda GSM. It's not on, we are the face of Asda out and about.

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 23/05/2019 17:14

Lots of good suggestions! The garlic crackers sound delicious.
What’s their meat like? I’ve tried the chicken and didn’t like it, anything else worth trying?

OP posts:
IHaveBrilloHair · 23/05/2019 17:30

I like the steaks from the fancy range, on the other end of the scale the cheap pork belly is great.
The chicken is fine, for us anyway.
Definitely look at the 3 for £10 deal on meat and fish.
The meal deal, is good value, especially as they do 6 glass bottles of coke as the drink.

Millie2018 · 23/05/2019 17:47

The olives are nice. We got a one month free trial, only used them once as out of a £45 shop they only delivered £30 worth as we had ticked no substitutes. They also didn’t give us a breakdown of what was missing, you had to trawl through the list online.

Sissy79 · 23/05/2019 17:55

You can select if you will accept subs on Tesco’s orders. I don’t and find we always get exactly what I want, before that i got about 6 subs every time.

I used to use Morrison’s but actually Tesco’s is coming up much cheaper with better dates on the meat.

CheshireChat · 23/05/2019 18:17

Their freezable bread buns are nice. I often buy from there, but never ever their meat as it's terrible (the fish is fine though). Smoked salmon trimmings are fine and the mussels in garlic sauce are a lot nicer than aldi's

CheshireChat · 23/05/2019 18:20

Oh, I use the detergent from there as well.
