If you wear glasses, how many pairs do you own?

I wear specs and LOVE buying new pairs. I get a new pair every year, and I have 2 pairs I wear regularly and some others that I could wear.

Posted too soon. You wouldn’t wear the same shoes every single day of the year, so why the same glasses?

One!

yellowalstroemeria · 19/05/2019 21:47

I've one pair I wear regularly and one pair which are broken.

I'd like to have more pairs though. I'm fed up of my current ones.

Ragwort · 19/05/2019 21:48

About ten Blush, tend to wear the same vari focals most days but do choose different glasses to match outfit or activities.

SpoonBlender · 19/05/2019 21:48

Back in the 20 years I did, one pair and usually the previous as a spare. I always went for very neutral rims, so they don't clash or even coordinate with anything. They're just there, rather than being a fashion item.

One pair that I wear all the time. The only time I don’t wear them is when I wear contacts which is maybe 20 days a year.

My prescription gets a little worse each year so I can’t accumulate multiple pairs. I also have to spend loads for thin lenses for my prescription which otherwise would result in huge thick lenses so I can’t afford to buy lots.

One. And a pair of prescription sunglasses.
I might not wear the same pair of shoes every day but glasses are hideously expensive on the high street and online ones are a lot of messing about.

NumbersLetters · 19/05/2019 21:49

Loads! Two that I wear every day, and yes I usually get a new pair every summer. I'm in a phase where my prescription is changing quite a bit so I should probably reuse some old frames.

rainbowlou · 19/05/2019 21:49

One pair..at £350 due to such a high prescription with the thinnest glass possible I can’t afford a spare pair!

SewButtons · 19/05/2019 21:50

One, it takes me a while to get used to a new pair of glasses and I feel like I’m not quite ‘me’ until I am used to them. Like looking at someone very similar but not myself.
If I had loads of money I’d maybe buy a few similar styles in slightly different colours or something like that, and I would love to be able to afford to have loads of different sunglasses. But my everyday glasses are part of my face and I’d feel weird having big changes all the time.

SpoonBlender · 19/05/2019 21:50

Oh, wait - I'm not counting the prescription shades or the swim goggles with prescription lenses. So those too.

xyzandabc · 19/05/2019 21:52

One pair of glasses, one pair of sunglasses.

I only get a new pair when my prescription changes so ever 2-3 years.

At £2-300 a time, I can't justify spending that much every year or twice a year when I have a pair that work just fine. If shoes cost that much I would have far fewer pairs!

I tend to change sunglasses every other prescription so maybe every 4-5 years. As by then the prescription difference is noticeabe.

ExpletiveDelighted · 19/05/2019 21:53

One, as for PPs my prescription is extremely strong so they cost several hundred pounds a time. I keep my previous pair in the car glove compartmwnt for emergencies and the pair before that in DH's car glove compartment. I wear contacts most of the time though, they give better correction and are far more practical.

SenecaFalls · 19/05/2019 21:58

I wear contact lenses but I have glasses for when I don't wear contacts. I have three pairs of prescription glasses, and about 6 pairs of reading glasses that I wear for reading and computer work when I have my contacts in.

adaline · 19/05/2019 21:59

One pair of glasses, one pair of prescription sunglasses.

I have a really awkward prescription - I can't afford multiple pairs!

SenecaFalls · 19/05/2019 22:00

I should have added that two of my three pairs of prescription glasses are old prescriptions that I have kept as back-ups. I wear my contacts most of the time.

Shelbybear · 19/05/2019 22:01

Well I've got a couple of pairs that are old ones but generally I always wear the newest ones that I purchase. Got 1 pair of prescription ones too.

Shelbybear · 19/05/2019 22:03

1 pair of prescription Sunglasses too I meant!

madcatladyforever · 19/05/2019 22:04

One smart pair for work etc and a pair of old battered ones I fall asleep and garden in. I'd like more colours but my prescriptoon is so expensive.

bluebluezoo · 19/05/2019 22:08

You wouldn’t wear the same shoes every single day of the year, so why the same glasses?

To start my shoes are £20-50 pounds. My glasses nearer £200.

I have one pair of glasses. Purely financial. Can’t afford it.

Btw I have 3 pairs of shoes. One for work, a pair of trainers, and a pair of flipflops.

LizziesTwin · 19/05/2019 22:08

A pair of glasses and one pair of prescription sunglasses. My old glasses are in the kitchen. My glasses are expensive and neutral. When I need reading glasses I’ll get multiple pairs in fun patterns.

Skinandbones · 19/05/2019 22:08

A couple for distance, one plain and one tinted and 4 or 5 reading glasses so I can leave them everywhere. I usually get them online so the don't cost too much.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 19/05/2019 22:09

Two pairs but only because I had an insurance claim for breaking my old glasses and I was able to get two pairs for the money. I have one nice pair with lenses that go dark and one basic pair as a spare. They're about 8 years old now and need new lenses as they're quite scratched, luckily I've not had a change in prescription.

EngagedAgain · 19/05/2019 22:10

I've got two pairs. One nothing special, but clear and lightweight, just for indoors. The other pair bit more fashionable and transitions for wearing out. First time I've had two pairs. Both with eye test was about £280, and have them thinned, but not the thinnest. Have tried saving old pairs before for spares, but find they are not much good. Give old specs to charity.

Hearhere · 19/05/2019 22:12

A little while ago I purchased a pair of glasses online and then two weeks later they sent me a duplicate for free obviously was a mistake on their part but I was pretty happy 😎
I have loads of pairs I wear old glasses quite a lot because the strongest prescription that I need makes me feel a bit weird and dizzy 😜
