If you wear glasses, how many pairs do you own?

I wear specs and LOVE buying new pairs. I get a new pair every year, and I have 2 pairs I wear regularly and some others that I could wear.

Gosh I was thinking about a thread like this earlier today.

I have my best glasses (most recent reading glasses).

Spesh glasses - varifocals that I use for watching telly

Second best glasses that live on the kitchen table.

Third best that live by my bed

Fourth best that live by the computer. (Held together with a paper clip)

Two pairs of cheap ‘reading’ glasses, one pair in the car and one in my handbag.

FrenchyQ · 19/05/2019 22:15

I have 2, 1 pair I keep at work (work in a lab and don't want to bring bacteria home) and 1 pair for everywhere else.
I'm lucky that I can wear kids glasses(as my face is quite small) so they work out quite a bit cheaper.

PickAChew · 19/05/2019 22:17

I usually get 2 pairs of glasses. I was glad of it this time - I chose frames I lived and frames I just liked. The frames I loved turned out to be really bloody uncomfortable.

I don't tend to chop and change much between my two pairs - I alwats default to a favourite an find it hard to adjust to the other pair if I wear them. Probably because I have a strong astigmatism and wear varifocals so there's a lot of visual distortion for my brain to be accustomed to and tiny variations in that can be quite disconcerting.

I do have a pair of just reading glases, though the prescription is a bit out of date - I could do with some stronger ones. I used them for dealing with whole seas of text and for painting walls - I can't see what's close up, above me, with varifocals on. Oh - and I need them to pluck my eyebrows because I can't see them with varifocals on, either!

I own two but wear one - the others are back up as they’re the free pair from spec savers. I don’t feel the need to coordinate them like I would shoes - adding something else to think about in the morning just isn’t for me!

I just stick them on as they’re for a function rather than an accessory. I don’t change my hair style or my facial features so I’m good with my glasses being the same! Plus they’re black thick frames so they just go with everything.

One pair of varis. One pair of prescription varis.

My main varis cost in excess of £500 so I don't have multiple pairs - and I go for the frameless 'can hardly tell you are wearing glasses' style, hence the higher price and the need to not have different pairs for different styles.

I do have several old pairs of frameless and sunglasses non-vari but can't wear them anymore.

My latest sunglasses varis came from Asda as I couldn't justify the large pricetag. And I'm pretty impressed, so would look at them for my next set of specs when my prescription changes enough to need one.

  1. I have 3 nice pairs that I rotate depending on what I feel like/what goes with what I’m wearing.

I always have my prescription sunglasses in my bag.

And there’s a cheap, emergency pair in my glovebox.

Pasut · 19/05/2019 22:24

One, I have a complicated prescription and need them slimmed as much as possible to make them less jam jar like Grin and its too expensive to have multiples for me.

AuntieMarys · 19/05/2019 22:26

One pair plus prescription sunglasses. My glasses were £500 so I won't be buying another pair for at least a year!

SparkleGem · 19/05/2019 22:27

I only have one pair, and I need them 24/7! So reading your post.. I know I should get at least another pair. I always say oh I'll get a spare and never get round to it, but if anything happened to my glasses I would be screwed!

stucknoue · 19/05/2019 22:27

One in correct prescription, have older ones ok if not driving plus sunglasses

Floralnomad · 19/05/2019 22:30

I have 4 pairs of regular glasses for everyday use ( although I tend to stick to one pair mainly) , 1 pair for driving and 2 pairs of prescription sunglasses.

HoppityChicken · 19/05/2019 22:31

2 prescription and about 10 pairs of 'happy' glasses I end up buying when I can't find the prescription ones.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 19/05/2019 22:32

Just one pair of prescription sunglasses but about 5 pairs of regular glasses.
I have 1 expensive pair that are old but in good nick and I've bought 2 lots of bogof glasses that are just not as good as the expensive pair so I generally wear them all the time. I plan on getting another decent pair this year though.

CakeNinja · 19/05/2019 22:32

I don’t wear glasses for my eyesight, but I own about 30 pairs of sunglasses! It’s a tradition every time I go to the airport I make a beeline for the sunglass hut Grin

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/05/2019 22:32

Good point Sparkle.

I had pair of frameless and one pair of sunglasses. I went on holiday, and managed to drop my normal ones out of my pocket into the sand on the beach while wearing my sunglasses.

I could not bloody find them after I discovered I'd lost them. And it was really awkward struggling at night and in low light with either sunglasses or no glasses.

Luckily they turned up, and I kept them for spares, but now I'm getting older and need varis I'm back to no spare pairs!

WalkAwaySugarbear · 19/05/2019 22:34

I have a cashplan with work that gives me £200pa on optical so seems daft not to.

CherryPavlova · 19/05/2019 22:35

Two in house, one in my car, one in husband’s car - all exactly the same but in case of breakage as I am entirely dependent on them. I can’t wear contact lenses so need to be sure I have my glasses at all times.
Prescription sunglasses x2 pairs and prescription swimming goggles.

Mari50 · 19/05/2019 22:35

About a dozen including sunglasses. Despite this I have a couple of pairs I definitely prefer- kind of like shoes. Some are comfy and you can slip them on happily, others become uncomfy or irritating after a while- I have very sensitive ears. Definitely need to buy a few more pairs that are lighter weight. But not rimless cause they are ageing, a bit naff and massively impractical.

TheOrigFV45 · 19/05/2019 22:42

Five.
One that sit by my computer - medium distance.
One that sit in the kitchen.
One that stay in the car - distance.
One that sit by my bed - near.
Varifocals - quite new and are used for watching telly while farting around on phone or reading or sewing or when I'm at work things which need near and far distance (conferences, workshops).

I guess the varifocals will become my main pair in time.

Jsmith99 · 19/05/2019 22:49

I’m short-sighted, and I drive a lot of miles so I need back-up pairs in case I lose or break my main pair. I currently have four pairs :
1 x normal pair
1x spare pair
1x prescription sunglasses
1x spare prescription sunglasses

Corneliawildthing · 19/05/2019 22:50

One. Mine are so hideously expensive with z very complex prescription

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 19/05/2019 22:52

Several, but all but one are former prescriptions. I’d love to have more to go with different outfits, but at £400 a time, that won’t happen.

BrokenWing · 19/05/2019 22:53

I dont need to wear glasses all the time, just for distance . I have two pairs with current prescription which mostly live in my car or are taken into work. One pair is standard glasses 👓the other sunglasses 🕶.

My last pair of glasses are a little weaker but I keep them as a spare and use to read the TV guide which is getting a bit blurry now. 👓

IAmNotPatientOrPregnant · 19/05/2019 22:54

I bought 2 pairs, just in case I lost a pair.

I have currently one pair, because I lost a pair.

Hotterthanahotthing · 19/05/2019 23:00

I have lots of cheap reading glasses.
I have one of short sighted glasses, even with a cheap frame these cosy over £300 15 years ago.
I have hard contact and will keep to the for as long as I can as they are very inexpensive and last a few years each. With a yearly eye test at £66,that is fine.
