If you wear glasses, how many pairs do you own?

I wear specs and LOVE buying new pairs. I get a new pair every year, and I have 2 pairs I wear regularly and some others that I could wear.

My extra thin Varifocals are so eye wateringly expensive (£500++), that I have 2 current spec (!) pairs (1 for driving and 1 with reactalite lenses). They have to be thin as the prescription is rather high. But I do have another cheaper pair for using the PC and I wear my older ones too, although not if I'm driving.

Two, same prescription. One for work (kept in my locker), one for everything else.

RaptorWhiskers · 19/05/2019 23:12

Just one. A good pair of designer glasses costs about £500, I can’t afford multiple pairs. I suppose I could spend that £500 on several cheap pairs but I don’t want to wear cheap glasses. If I’m wearing them every day I want them to be decent.

SheilaHammond · 19/05/2019 23:16

Two pairs of varifocals, one old, one new, I swap between them just for a change.

Loads of v cheap reading ones bought in a pack of 5 online, for handbag, car, next to sofa and next to bed, for when I’ve taken off my daytime varifocals.

One pair of proper computer distance glasses for work- I find these essential.

DramaAlpaca · 19/05/2019 23:20

Mine are so expensive there's no way I can afford multiple pairs. I have my everyday varifocals, my occupational varifocals & a couple of pairs of ready readers for when I wear contact lenses. I keep my old glasses for use as spares if necessary.

GetOffTheRoof · 19/05/2019 23:21

One pair of specs. I've just had my sunglasses reglazed.

I have 2 old pairs from old Rx in case of emergency in a drawer.

notacooldad · 19/05/2019 23:22

I have about 8.
One is usually kept in my works bad, another in my car and one in my rucksack. The rest are scattered around the house.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/05/2019 23:24

4 plus 2 wearable sunglasses.

I wear different ones for screen work and got 2 for 1 on those. I bought a ‘seeing’ pair then bought a spare backup pair. One sunglasses is (are?) my current prescription and the other is my previous one.

Xmasbaby11 · 19/05/2019 23:25

1 normal pair

1 prescription sunglasses

Prescription goggles

My prescription didn't change for years but then did last year and I had to replace everything. As with pp, I am v shortsighted so need to pay for thin lenses. I couldn't afford to buy multiple pairs and have no problem wearing the same ones every day.

In fact, I don't have many pairs of shoes either, or styles of clothes, so I probably look more or less the same all the time!

francienolan · 19/05/2019 23:26

I have 2 pairs of normal glasses and 1 pair of prescription sunglasses. I wear one normal pair for a while (several weeks or months) and then switch.

llangennith · 19/05/2019 23:34

Wore glasses for 50 years till recent lens replacement surgery.
I'd buy a new pair every year on a BOGOF deal, usually Specsavers. As you say, you wear your glasses every day of the year so why wouldn't you want more than one (or two) pairs?

LoveLuna · 19/05/2019 23:39

I have 2 pairs of glasses - one stupidly expensive pair of varifocals with adaptive lenses and a pair of distance glasses I keep in the car - and a pair of prescription sunglasses. I mainly wear multifocal contact lenses though.

midsomermurderess · 19/05/2019 23:39

One. Very expensive (becauseI do need them) varifocals. The frames were not that expensive but the lenses, oh my. I simply couldn't run to more pairs.

PawPawNoodle · 19/05/2019 23:44

2 pairs - one black framed pair and a tortoise shell pair which I alternate on needing formal or casual. I wear contact lenses too. Also have prescription sunglasses which are dreamy.

TapasForTwo · 19/05/2019 23:46

I have expensive eyesight - extreme myopia and astigmatism. I wear varifocals and require thinner lenses otherwise my glasses would look like jam jar bottoms. I have a pair for normal light and a pair of prescription sunglasses. I can't afford to wear glasses as a fashion accessory.

JazzersMaw · 19/05/2019 23:47

The last few times I’ve used the deal at Specsaver’s so I have 2 pairs for my current prescription. I get new lenses every 2 years as my vision keeps getting worse. I’m now so shortsighted I like having a spare pair as I couldn’t manage without. If I lose the main pair down the side of the bed (happens often) I need the spares to retrieve them. It’s a costly business.

Slippershoes · 19/05/2019 23:49

2 normal pairs and 1 pair of sunglasses. But I only wear my old glasses when I'm dying my hair, I think the prescription has slightly changed twice since I got them.
