Euro elections - remainers come hither

Sorry if this has been done before.

It's the Euro elections on Thursday and I'm a remainer. I've been confused about which party to vote for to give the best opposition to the pro Brexit parties. I really wish Change UK had partnered up with the Lib Dems but alas, that wasn't to be. I think on balance I will be voting for the Lib Dems - I usually vote for them in General Elections although I admire the Change MPs who put their careers on the line for something different.

I just wondered what other remainers were thinking. My friends don't really talk about this sort of thing so thought here might be a good place to discuss but apologies if this isn't allowed in an election period.

God almighty that's the first I knew of that! Have they always been called that?

Irulez · 20/05/2019 23:57

I'm going to vote for Change Uk. I don't know the LibDems well enough to know what I'm voting for, and Change Uk seem to only have one goal, so I'll go with them.

Irulez · 20/05/2019 23:59

There's a party in my area anyway called 'Women's equality'. Never heard of them either!

19 options in my constituency. How many constituencies are there? This could be all over the shop?????????

Irulez · 21/05/2019 00:08

Ok, I now don't know what my tactical vote should be. Has anyone the link again to where it discusses constituencies? I'm in London.

I have 2 priorities:

Get Conservatives out (I know this is an MEP vote, but still)
Remain in the EU

PickAChew · 21/05/2019 00:09

The constituencies are large. They cover whole regions.

PickAChew · 21/05/2019 00:11

This should give you a few hints

Tavannach · 21/05/2019 00:13

Your choices are multiple

remain voter recommends Change UK.

Have a good in-depth read of the website, following all the links. Hopefully that will make it clearer. It's more complicated than first past the post.

Irulez · 21/05/2019 00:13

Ok, found the link, and it seems to say LibDems for London. Marking my vote now!!!

Fuck's sake, I get so stressed about voting!

Irulez · 21/05/2019 00:20

Ok, done and dusted. Lib Dems. Haven't a clue what they're about Shock but it's sitting on the handle of the door now to go in the post tomorrow. Phew. I bloody hate voting! I also get really emotional voting!

Tavannach · 21/05/2019 00:20

LibDems'll be fine. It's "Bollocks to Brexit".

remain voter is recommending Change UK as the party for undecided Remain voters in London, but the tactical vote under the d'Hondt system is more difficult to understand, and, probably, more difficult to predict with any certainty. It's a unique election.

Irulez · 21/05/2019 00:25

I'm a bit screaming at the Michelangelo when it comes to voting. I can't stop crying when I go in to vote (hence the postal vote Hmm ). I don't even know why! It's bizarre!
Had a little emotional cry for myself in the privacy of my own home. I know I'll cry when I stick it in the postbox tomorrow! God but I'm sad!

Strugglingtodomybest · 21/05/2019 00:37

Lib dems for me.

Tavannach · 21/05/2019 00:40

In a way I wish I could scream at Michaelango, but I know what you mean about voting.

Irulez · 21/05/2019 02:12

Two things move me - music and voting! PMSL

Every single time I voted I get so emotional I cry. It's a big deal for me! I'm a sad bastard lol.

I had my little cry marking the X on my ballot. I know I'll cry unless I try very hard not to when I stick it in the post box tomorrow. What is wrong with me? I'm one little single vote. You'd swear I was deciding on the next Prime Minister with only my vote counting!

EVERY FUCKING TIME. I thought I'd be fine with a postal vote... Nope. Still tears.

Triglesoffy · 21/05/2019 07:24

British Steel is on course to collapse tomorrow with the Scunthorpe plant earmarked to be completely wiped out (the majority of Lincolnshire votes to Leave). If this isn’t a wake up call, what is?

AlexaShutUp · 21/05/2019 08:01

I don't cry when I'm voting but often do when I see the results! I'm afraid this time it could be very depressing.Sad

I'm still hovering between LibDem and Green. The advice from Remain United and Remain Voter is different for my constituency and I don't know which one is right. My personal preference is Green but I think the LibDems are more likely to succeed, so I have a bit of a dilemma.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/05/2019 08:17

irulez

I know exactly what you mean

I get a bit emotional as well

Ds1 voted in the last election....i was very emotional

(Didnt cry though Grin)

CountFosco · 21/05/2019 12:53

I'm wondering about the RemainVoter analysis, now, as Democratic Audit has the Lib Dems performing very poorly in the North East
www.democraticaudit.com/2019/05/16/european-elections-2019-what-will-happen-in-englands-north-east-region/
I'm not sure I can bring myself to vote green again, after all their recent gender based pronouncements, mind. And there's analysis been done that changes the order in which all the remain parties poll badly.

From my reading of that the Lib Dems are the third party in the region, historically have had a NE MEP and are the only remain party to have a chance. So, that agrees with both remainervoter and remainunited. So NE remainers should vote Lib Dem.
