Doesn't matter what I like as ds chooses his own - currently a floppy messy looking mop down to his shoulders and past his nose at the front

Longish, especially on little boys. Really don’t like short hair at all.

He is going for a trim on Tuesday but only wants it taken up to his nose at the front as it's getting in his mouth! It's annoying him at the back as it's catching on his collar so it will be cut a little shorter (but not too much). I've had to stop taking him to the barber as they don't know what to do with it so he now goes to my hairdresser

Personally don’t like long hair on boys. Don’t like it scalped, either, though.

We always ask for a scissor trim at the barbers. Basically just a short haircut but not clippered to within an inch of its life like most of the boys his age we know. He’s only 4 so I just want him to look like a little boy, not a teenager, the trendy haircuts can wait until he’s older.

I have had tears a couple of times after the barber has ignored instructions and cut DS's fringe really short or generally just not done what was asked. Ds is 12 and if he wants long hair he can have it

I prefer short hair on boys. However now my son is an adult he has very long thick hair like a 90s (female) supermodel! It’s beautiful hair but I still would prefer him to have it short!

I didn't say I particularly liked long hair on boys but it's DS's hair so he gets to choose what length he wants

Short all over but not a buzz cut. Just neat and tidy. Loves to have the front bit spiked up by the hairdresser. No shaved in stripes or stars.

I think it depends on the boy and on how thick/full his hair is.

Aww @StarringRole my DS has the same hair! Also always gets mistaken for a girl (even by me once ). Do you correct people?

If not if go for something that's easy to deal with for his hair type.

Boden-catalogue-style slightly long and shaggy. Yeah I am a mumsnet cliche, I can live with it.

I quite like this styled so not that messy long look mothers go for. It also not a severe chav cut.

Anything from crew cut to long. I just don’t like super super short clipper cuts.

DS is only tiny so just has cute fluffy baby hair.

Little boys look cool with a surfy, tousled, slightly long style.

The older they get, the more of an opinion they have themselves so you have to balance what they want with what you like.

Personally though I don't like buzz cuts or shaved sides, tramlines etc
