Hate long hair on boys (younger or older).

I like near hairstyles. Groomed styles.

ManchesterBorn · 18/05/2019 19:37

Short not shaved

It's cuter, more practical.

Long hair on girls, but i hate bangs.

IndigoSpritz · 18/05/2019 19:39

What do people think about Afro-Caribbean hair and its styles ?
I increasingly see such children with an awful lot of hair, a little like Lionel Richie circa 1977, and I think it looks pretty cool, especially if it's somewhat untamed. Afro hair looks especially fascinating on mixed race children, when it can be brown rather than black and not quite as tightly curled but still very full and bouffant.

Of all the children i have met, boy or girl, I have loved every hairstyle from buzzcut to bumlength.

IntoValhalla · 18/05/2019 19:41

My DS has never had a haircut.
If we are at home, it’s often a wild, crazy, shoulder length cascade of waves and curls. If we are going out, he wears it up in a little top knot.
I will take him to get it cut when he decides he wants to, but at the moment he freaks out at the slightest mention of a haircut!

WindsweptEgret · 18/05/2019 19:47

Both slightly long above the shoulder like the picture MyDcAreMarvel posted, and longer below the shoulders, either loose or up in a ponytail or top knot.

My 7yr old has just had a lovely cut - short around the back and sides but kept long on top so we can sweep it over. He also has fine hair in abundance Smile

VenusClapTrap · 18/05/2019 20:06

Short but with a floppy fringe.

Bunnybigears · 18/05/2019 20:12

I like how my year old has his hair now, kind off long and floppy on top and shaved short on the sides. My 9 year old has tricotillomania (probably spelt that wrong) so I just like it when he has any hair.

Hide- do you have to use product for that style?

Short hair. I hate long hair on boys.

MamaRaisingBoys · 18/05/2019 21:33

Longer is better when they’re small. I think around age 10 is when I like shorter hair on boys

Shopperami · 18/05/2019 21:33

Does anyone use any products or just leave it?

Anything apart from a buzz cut or very short with lines cut in.

DS's is quite long and has stated to get lovely curls..entirely his own choice

lotusbell · 18/05/2019 21:49

DS12 has very thick, coarse, wiry hair. He gets it from me on my mums side Angry He was born with 4 crowns. It was straight, smooth but chaotic when he was younger but has got worse as he's got older. It's the type of hair which just grows out and bushy, will never lie flat, look shiney etc. Its a shame for him as he'd love it a bit longer!

One of mine has shaggy curls. The other has shoulder length hair which works well as it weighs down the way it sprouts in random directions. Fringes don't work with his cows lick as it's so gappy and spirals off veritcally at his hairline.

Short hair suits some boys. Longer hair suits others. Most in our school are short. I don't like the attitude that boys should have short hair because boy, nor that girls should have long hair because girl.

aliceinwonderlandbrum · 18/05/2019 21:59

My son has very curly blonde afro hair which is currently long, we are talking . just past shoulder length, when pulled downwards.
We use lots of conditioner and elbow grease. He always gets comments on how fabulous his hair isGrin

Limaloma1 · 18/05/2019 22:11

My DS11's hair is a nightmare. Cow's lick and his hair grows in all directions, but he still wants to grow it. I've always kept it pretty short as it looks tidier. This is a good hair day photo!

Whatever they want their hair to be like (as long as it's clean).

I think all boys should be encouraged to have their hair as long as they want when younger, as it's not unheard of for male pattern hairloss to start by 17 and then they don't have much of a choice about it.

DP was very glad he kept his hair long at 18 when he was being pressured to cut it short - half of it had gone, never to return, by the time he was 22, but at least he had his hair how he wanted it for five years.

namechangedforthis1980 · 18/05/2019 22:24

@lotusbell - hair very similar to my youngest son. Has a total mind of its own! He lost all hair through chemo, had poker straight very blonde hair before. Now it's a mucky blonde with a curly top. Grows like wild fire too Grin

namechangedforthis1980 · 18/05/2019 22:28

@IndigoSpritz - my mixed race teenage son generally always has it cut similar to this... he mixes it up as to whether he wears it curly or Afro style ( we both prefer curly as it's softer)

Hate the very short cuts with a ton of product. DS is 6 and has classic shaggy mop. He has lots of hair and it grows fast. Since only DD2 has long hair (she has a gorgeous lob), haircuts are a big expense in this family!

Ragwort · 18/05/2019 22:35

Short hair, hate long hair on boys, that surfer Boden type look that seems popular with a certain demographic Grin.

flowery · 18/05/2019 22:43

DS1 is 12 and has his short back and sides longer on top, which looks smart.

DS2’s curly hair doesn’t grow long, or down, it grows up and out, getting bigger and bigger. So we just try and keep his head to a reasonable size. Grin He likes it long (ie big) so prefers to wait as long as possible between cuts whereas we prefer him to be able to fit through doors...
