and looks like all of our passports have been thrown out Shock

It says 3 weeks to get a new one on their website - We leave in just over 3. Is it realistic to expect they will be here in time?

Also - I had to get a replacement last year, will this affect getting another this year?

If they’re done electronically, you could make it. DB just renewed his and relieved it within a week. DN’s took longer because it was paper application

Justyou · 17/05/2019 06:55

I got mine & families within 3 and that included appointment for me as it was my 1st

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre · 17/05/2019 06:57

We've just renewed the kids passports electronically. DD2's took a week but DD3 needed ID confirmation (it's a random thing apparently) so it took a bit longer but the confirmation was done by e mail so it was about a fortnight.

Fingers crossed for you!

AlwaysCheddar · 17/05/2019 06:57

Mine took a week!

User24689 · 17/05/2019 07:01

Did the kids last month and it took about 2 weeks but that was for first passports, not renewal. I reckon you'll be ok!

cardboard33 · 17/05/2019 07:01

We applied for my baby's first passport at the end of last week and it's apparently arriving today. If you do it electronically, have everything ready to go (like if the photo needs to be countersigned then ensure you pick someone who can reply to the email the same day) then you might be ok if you do it all today/tomorrow.

Zampa · 17/05/2019 07:02

I got my daughter's first passport with a fortnight. Renewals should be quicker but you can do a 1 week fast track too.

GingerOClock · 17/05/2019 07:03

It's not a renewal - it's replacement - will that make a difference?

You need to fill in the lost passport form online. You'll get a reference number to add to the form in the "extra information" box. Didn't affect the speed when I did mine on a lost passport.

Pipandmum · 17/05/2019 07:05

I’m doing one week fast track as my son is travelling in a month and I don’t want to risk it (renewal and new photo as he’s changed). But it means making an appointment in a major city (like London or Glasgow) which is 80 miles from where I live! Worth it for peace of mind.

Letthemysterybe · 17/05/2019 07:06

We’ve recently had to replace a lost passport and renew an expired one. The renewals were more straightforward as done online, but both took between 2-3 weeks to arrive.

SillyMoomin · 17/05/2019 07:07

It looks like the first half of your op has been cut off- thrown out?? You mean they’re all lost?

You’ll have to declare them as lost and get replaced so they can put a block on them being used - the government website says it may take longer as you may need an interview to replace

NoSquirrels · 17/05/2019 07:09

Make a appointment for a fast track?

How on earth have you thrown them out? How sure are you?

BertieBotts · 17/05/2019 07:10

It's 3 weeks before you contact them to ask for an update. Usually it comes before 3 weeks. Not sure for a lost one though. You can fast track it, but it costs.

EleanorReally · 17/05/2019 07:11

I would do fastrack

GingerOClock · 17/05/2019 07:13

I could cry

We can't afford the fast track

Yes - all mistakenly chucked out whilst having a clear out. it's the only explanation we can think of

I got mine a couple of weeks ago. Did it online, posted old passport back on a Friday and got new one the following Friday and there was a Bh on the Monday. Dunno if might take longer as you can't send old ones back?

NoSquirrels · 17/05/2019 07:17

Well, can you afford NOT to do fasttrack? Because you won’t go on holiday without passports and lose more money.

Have you thrown out lots of paperwork without looking through? Have you turned the house upside down?

StealthPolarBear · 17/05/2019 07:17

We renewed last year and I was amazed at how quickly they came.

Abetes · 17/05/2019 07:18

Our new ones came back in a week after doing it online. But we had the old ones to send off. Might take longer if you don’t have them. What is the price difference in fast track?

SparklyMagpie · 17/05/2019 07:18

I renewed mine online a couple of months ago and I got it back in a week

Not sure about replacements though?

NoSquirrels · 17/05/2019 07:20

If you already had a replacement last year you might need an interview anyway so I’d book the appointment.

NaughtyLittlePassport · 17/05/2019 07:20

It's not a replacement if they're lost, it's treated as a new application and takes longer. Can you borrow the money for fastrack?

LadyRannaldini · 17/05/2019 07:20

Is it still possible to get an apointment at the Passport Office? I did this a couple of years ago when mine was missing days before a trip, it worked like magic, the minute I put the phone down I looked somehere it couldn't possible be and there it was!
The system seems to work well now, OH got his through in about a week.
