Sh!t Sh!t Sh!t!! Has anyone recently got a passport?

and looks like all of our passports have been thrown out Shock

It says 3 weeks to get a new one on their website - We leave in just over 3. Is it realistic to expect they will be here in time?

Also - I had to get a replacement last year, will this affect getting another this year?

All these posts about how long it has taken people to renew aren't really relevant.

The OP needs replacements, and in her case, it's a second replacement in a relatively short period. This is likely to raise some questions, I would think, so I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to interview her. They have a duty, after all, to ensure that nothing dodgy is going on.

OP, I know it's expensive but you might have to just cough up for the fast track if you want to go ahead with your holiday. And find a secure location in which to store your passports going forward.Grin

pineapplepatty · 17/05/2019 08:33

I think without fast track this time of year it's too risky.

It only takes one little holdup and you'll not get them in time.

Seeline · 17/05/2019 08:36

I renewed mine at the beginning of the month. Electronically, including photo. It would have taken under a week if it hadn't been for bank holiday postal delay.

thenightsky · 17/05/2019 08:36

I just got ds a new one. Did the form electronically on a Saturday morning and we had it by Wednesday.

IceRebel · 17/05/2019 08:38

All these posts about how long it has taken people to renew aren't really relevant.

Agreed. This is not as straightforward as a renewal. Add into the mix that the OP has already had a replacement last year, and you could be looking at weeks for them to issue new passports.

DesparateDino · 17/05/2019 08:39

Good luck OP. Start the process today and fingers crossed they get back in time.

The passport office are loads better than what they used to be.

Pinkyyy · 17/05/2019 08:40

@upthewolves that could well be the case, but given that this isn't a normal renewal (lost twice in a year and no old copies to send off) there is a strong chance that the OP could miss out on her holiday if she doesn't use the faster service.

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/05/2019 08:51

Maybe the best thing to do is call the Passport Office and explain the situation and see what they advise?

It's just speculation that replacement takes longer than straightforward renewal and if there's a very good chance that things will be sorted in 3 weeks, if the OP applies today, then fast track seems unnecessary.

OP how are you travelling and is there any chance of postponing your holiday? The fees charged for that could be less than the extra cost of fast track, depending on how you booked?

Or could you cancel? For example, if you booked very cheap flights and accomodation with no cancellation fee, if you cancel it all, the money lost might not be that much. You could always use the time to have a 'holiday from home' visiting local attractions, going away in the UK etc.

Sexnotgender · 17/05/2019 08:52

I got a renewal for mine a couple weeks ago and it took 2 weeks.

pineapplepatty · 17/05/2019 09:19

There's a website someone linked to on her once with a time taken for passports (renewals and lost) to be done in the last week or two.

Purplehammer · 17/05/2019 10:26

I applied for my renewal on 7th .
Update today says it is in the renewal queue.
According to info on website allow up to 3weeks for passport renewal ,six weeks for new passport.

toastfiend · 17/05/2019 10:32

We applied for DS' first passport electronically and it arrived within a week.

GingerOClock · 17/05/2019 10:58

I've spoken to them and have the reference numbers for online application

I've booked in to habe professional photos done today and will then apply online

They said it won't make any difference that they are replacement for list passports, and the fact that I lost mine last year didn't make a difference either.

They said 3 - 4 weeks. However, I can upgrade to fast track if it looks to be getting close!

Thank you everyone that has responded. Feel less like crying now - more of a sick feeling that I doubt will go away until they arrive!

Try taking photos with your phone and see if they are acceptable. Would save more time. We went to a photo booth for both Dds but they rejected Dd1's(very curly hair). Tied her hair back and used her phone and had no problems.

Cadsuane · 17/05/2019 13:39

Meant to say it was at the online application stage that they didn't think Dds photo was good enough. Not sent away and sent back.

ThomasRichard · 17/05/2019 13:40

You could be ok OP. Crowdsourced real-time data says 2 weeks: www.passportwaitingtime.co.uk

IKnowYouAndYouCannotSing · 17/05/2019 13:41

Husband just did his electronically via the post office. It came 11 Days after application.

ThomasRichard · 17/05/2019 13:41

And definitely use the online system! You can take photos with your phone and it will tell you immediately if it’s likely to be accepted.

Sexnotgender · 17/05/2019 14:06

I took our photos on my phone. As long as you follow their instructions it’s fine.

pineapplepatty · 17/05/2019 14:22

Good luck OP

MrsFoxPlus4 · 17/05/2019 14:26

My husbands replacement came just shy of 3 weeks

Purplehammer · 17/05/2019 19:26

Update.
Mine is on the way, should be here within 48 hrs.

Squiff70 · 17/05/2019 19:33

I got mine in under 2 weeks very recently as I applied online and added a self-taken photo - didn't have those awful passport photos done in a booth. Crack on with it tonight and you should have them in time. Good luck.

Bigpizzalover · 17/05/2019 19:34

I paid more and went to passport office
