and looks like all of our passports have been thrown out Shock

It says 3 weeks to get a new one on their website - We leave in just over 3. Is it realistic to expect they will be here in time?

Also - I had to get a replacement last year, will this affect getting another this year?

The new passport for DD is due to be delivered today and has taken about a week.

Still waiting to hear on the renewal for DS though who was done at the same time.

strawberrisc · 17/05/2019 07:24

I did it online too. Took about 2.5 weeks. NEW PASSPORTS MUST BE SIGNED!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 17/05/2019 07:24

Dh did the same. 🙄He was told he had to do 7 day service, new photos and interview. £140. Bollocks. But came in 3 days.

Kidssendingmenuts · 17/05/2019 07:26

Get online and do ASAP. The longer you leave it the longer it takes as it's a busy period xx

CarolinePooter · 17/05/2019 07:27

Renewal a few weeks ago, took a week.

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 17/05/2019 07:28

Just done our 3 passports...1 week for mine and DD and 2 for DH but his was a first time application with an interview.....Can you not claim on your insurance for replacement costs of lost documents OP? might be worth a check out.

NoSquirrels · 17/05/2019 07:28

Call the Passport number as soon as it opens, take their advice.

CarolinePooter · 17/05/2019 07:31

Should say, this was online. My photo wasn't acceptable to them, but I sent it anyway with a note saying it looked perfectly fine to me! Presumably the iffy ones are checked by a human, so that was pretty efficient.

ShivD · 17/05/2019 07:32

Online is very quick, never more than 2 weeks for the 5 I’ve done since they brought the online service in. Do it today, print the declarations and send them before the last post.

Temporaryanonymity · 17/05/2019 07:36

If you don't have your old passports you can't use the online service.

NorthernRunner · 17/05/2019 07:38

Can you get to London or Liverpool and do the one day service? You have to sit around for ages but it gets done.
I accidentally threw ours out in the recycling so had to replace ours, it took probably just over a month as you have to report it missing and get a code and then they call you to make sure it’s you, and then you can replace it.

Pinkyyy · 17/05/2019 07:47

I wouldn't risk it. Surely the difference between the normal and the fast track service is less to lose than the cost of your holiday?

GingerOClock · 17/05/2019 07:47

It's £300 more for fastrack

IceRebel · 17/05/2019 07:48

They might ask you to an interview, as this will be the second year in a row you have had a replacement.

Best to give them a ring today, the quicker you start the process the more chance you have of getting them through in time.

Pinkyyy · 17/05/2019 07:59

Surely your holiday cost more than £300? You have to weigh up which you'd rather be down by.

marcus2000 · 17/05/2019 08:13

Take a day off and drive to the passport office?

redwoodmazza · 17/05/2019 08:14

I renewed mine in December [on line] and it was back in less than a week. In fact I got the new one before they returned the old one!!!

AJPTaylor · 17/05/2019 08:16

Dds was stolen a week before her hols
Appt in London and a small fortune saved it.

Catchingbentcoppers · 17/05/2019 08:19

You'll NEED to fastrack if you want to ensure you have them on time or you won't be going away at all I'm afraid.

Catchingbentcoppers · 17/05/2019 08:20

It's getting towards one of their busiest times as well.

User24689 · 17/05/2019 08:21

pinkyy presumably the OP has already paid for the holiday though so although that may be true, it is a case of not having a spare 300 quid to spend at this moment in time (which I imagine is the case for many people)

Cherylshaw · 17/05/2019 08:23

I got 2 first passports for the kids and they were sent out in less than 10 days

UrsulaPandress · 17/05/2019 08:23

It will take longer as you haven't got the old passport to send back but I reckon you should be ok.

I think you can go to the passport office in person.

floribunda18 · 17/05/2019 08:25

Pay the extra and do Fast Track. Even with the normal service, it's not the busiest time of the year and you usually get them in a week.

redwoodmazza · 17/05/2019 08:26

Just looked online.
You need to report original passports as 'lost' first - all you need is names and dob etc.
Then it looks as if you can apply for replacements online.
Good luck!
