True fact about yourself that no one believes

When I was at university (5 yr course with a year in industry, so 4 yrs of teaching) I never missed a single lecture, seminar, lab or tutorial. If it was on the timetable I was there. We had large contact hours (engineering degree, so about 25 hrs per week) so was quite a lot to fit in.

I’ve told this to a few people over the years when the topic comes up in conversation. No one has ever believed me, and it’s not something I can prove or disprove either way!

Anything you have done in the past that no one believes and you have no way of proving?

Have you retired aged 30odd?

sam221 · 18/05/2019 22:44

Yes very much so and deciding now what to do with my next chapter.

Wisefox · 18/05/2019 22:45

I can't shout. I've tried enough times. As a child, I was very mousey. Quiet. As I got older I was more confident but I can't shout, my throat doesn't allow it. Sometimes it hurts to try, and I don't make screaming a habit. If you're upstairs, I may have to say your name as loud as possible to get your attention but usually I end up going all the way up.

I can't project my voice- like the teachers say. I didn’t know it back then, else I'd have said something. Don't like shouters too much, they can rattle me, but shouting in some situations can be so necessary! I'll take a whistle to the beach or something; ) Mostly I don't like being a few steps behind someone I know, in a crowd or open space, and not being heard when I call them.

I hate my job. It’s a job people dream of doing, it’s shit.
No one believes me.

hippoherostandinghere · 18/05/2019 23:05

I have never had a cigarette or taken any form of drugs. I cannot remember the last time I was drunk but I was definitely a teenager. People don't believe me though when I say I can handle my drink really well. I very rarely drink during the year, maybe a glass or two of Baileys at Christmas, but on holidays I can drink cocktail after cocktail and it has no effect whatsoever.

winniestone37 · 19/05/2019 00:04

In a serious crisis I am insanely calm and clear thinking- example a man collapsed (he was fine in end) in soho and I co- coordinated getying him comfortable, help etc. The man I was who has known me 20 years said he was stunned and didn't know I was like that. Usually I'm a bit dippy.

PeapodBurgundy · 19/05/2019 00:12

Very boring compared to a lot of these, but on the occasions it's cropped up, people never believe the hole in the top of my ear isn't an old piercing. I was born with it. DM called it my ventilation Grin

No one knows this but I met my husband due to him texting a wrong number that turned out to be mine.lol.
He was ill and supposed to be going out that night with friends and the text he sent was him telling his mates he wasn’t going out that night as didn’t feel well. I myself was also ill and had had to cancel my night out due to being so unwell so when his text came through I didn’t like thinking of his mates sitting round waiting for him not knowing he’d actually cancelled on them. So I text him back and told him he’d sent the text to the wrong number so best check the number and try again.lol.
The weirdest thing is that if he hadn’t been ill he would never have sent that first text as would have been going out that night and if I hadn’t been ill that night too then I’d have been going out and would have been in the middle of getting ready so more than likely wouldn’t have text him back to say he’d text the wrong number.lol.
Also considering texts can end up anywhere in the country it turned out that he actually lived about half an hour away from me and on one of the days we were texting before we met face to face he had been visiting his niece who lived barely 5 mins away from my house and we didn’t realise it at the time he was round there.
We met up a few weeks after that first text and he moved in after barely a month, we got married 9 months after meeting and I was 5 months pregnant with our first baby when we got married and we’ve been married 14 years this coming September.lol.

We haven’t told anyone the truth about how we met as we are always telling our kids not to speak to strangers on internet etc and never to reply to texts or answer calls from numbers that aren’t stored in their phones and always trying to educate them on the dangers of it all but would sound like total hypocrites if after giving them lectures on safety etc we then announced to them oh by the way that’s how we met and fell in love and got married. That one simple mistake is why you’re all now here as without that one different number we’d have never met.lol.

We lived on a council estate when growing up and my mum and step dad were the estates biggest drug dealers and we had our house raided on several occasions and was raided so often that at one point when I must have been barely 8 that my step dad refused to replace the front door so instead we had a big wooden board over where door should have been with a rectangle cut out as a letter box with POST written above it and written boldly at the top of the door was PLEASE ENTER AT REAR with an arrow pointing towards our back gate that led into the back garden and back door ans it stayed like that for months and months.
All my friends thought it was hilarious but none of them ever knew the real reason it was like that as isn’t the kind of thing you can say to your mates about your mum being a drug dealer!!!!

What a lovely story Anfield11

So pleased to here it worked so well!

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 19/05/2019 01:18

I've never smoked nor tried anything drug wise.

I don't drink alcohol either, never had the interest in it.

I was a goth for many years back in the day when emo hadn't even been invented yet. I modelled myself on Julianne Regan of All About Eve although a long time after they were popular.

That might be outing although I doubt it.

Hollyhobbi · 19/05/2019 02:37

I've had scarlet fever twice, once as a child of 10 and then when I was 19 and training as a student nurse. Apparently there are three strains of it! I did take two puffs of a cigarette aged 15 but that was it. Only strong drugs I've ever taken have all been prescribed unfortunately as I have developed a rare genetic disorder which causes severe bone and muscle pain along with chronic insomnia.

BonAccordSpur · 19/05/2019 03:06

The people i mix with in social/work life would be shocked to know i was arrested6times before i was 17&was homeless& worked in a "massage"parlour in New Zealand in my 20's..

MashedSpud · 19/05/2019 03:28

I’ve never eaten beef, lamb, chicken or fish. The only meat I tried as a child was bacon and sausages. I’ve been a vegetarian for 35 years.

SimplySteveRedux · 19/05/2019 04:20

I'm published and was a leader in my field!

WickedGoodDoge · 19/05/2019 05:02

I performed in Carnegie Hall (amongst other places) when I was 17. As part of an orchestra- not as a soloist!

CamberGirl · 19/05/2019 06:23

That I'm actually titled.

Catchingbentcoppers · 19/05/2019 06:36

That I used to be married to quite a famous drummer, in my old life back in the 80s.

It was a very different life from my life now.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 19/05/2019 06:50

Wow I really want to do something now so that I have an unbelievable fact 😄😄 I feel so dull!!

I’ve done cool stuff but I wouldn’t say any is unbelievable :
I sang in the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympic and the worldwide audience was in the low billions I think - I was in a professional choir, so not unbelievable.

I knew I’d marry dh the second I lay eyes on him - it was a ‘oh, there you are!’ moment. Nice but I wouldn’t say that unusual!

And I mean that’s probably literally it 😄 ugh.

AnotherWickedWitch · 19/05/2019 08:15

A lot of people dont believe:
My godfather sang the UK entry in the Eurovision song contest.
I am in my 40s
He is my son and not my brother
Apart from having my DC, I have never stayed in hospital, had an operation or broken a bone.
I have only ever visited A&E for myself twice in my life. Concussion as a child and torn ligaments in my foot as an adult.

moon2 · 19/05/2019 08:22

I had a tornado fighter jet hover right next to me along the sea promenade for a good 20 I could sea the pilot and jump onto the wing if I tried. Being the idiot I am I thought he was messing with me and totally ignored him instead of having an officer and a gentleman moment and blowing him a kiss. Drats! Biggest regret of my life.

moon2 · 19/05/2019 08:31

Always wanted to be a pilot and join the RAF

WelshMoth · 19/05/2019 08:36

In my 20's, I pulled a boy out of a car that was upside down and on fire. A second boy was pulled out but didn't survive. I was mentioned on the news as a woman who didn't leave a name. My parents must have thought I was exaggerating but I was sat eating my tea with them when it appeared on the news.

imonlyatoyspider · 19/05/2019 08:47

I grew up in a little house near a cliff with no fridge/ electricity. I explored this cliff as a young un ( 'elf and safety would have a seizure now)

imonlyatoyspider · 19/05/2019 08:48

@CamberGirl ohhhhh royalty lol
